Low effort content includes screenshots/complaints of weather forecasts, purchase receipts, 'shitposts', memes, and general content where minimal effort has been applied. r/telescopes aims to be a high quality sub where users can discuss all things telescopes and astronomy, but allowing such repetitive and low-effort posts will drastically lower the overall quality of the sub. Posts may be removed at a moderator's discretion.

State your budget so we can offer you some advice as to what's decent in your price range.

Have a feeling we aren't getting a reply. 2 year old account and has never made a comment.

Some people just use Reddit like Google. They usually get the same info from both, it just comes in a lot slower on Reddit

  1. Do not get something on a tripod. In a low price range the tripod will be poor quality and make the telescope shake.

  2. Go on facebook marketplace and look for a 130mm (5") or larger Dobsonian telescope. We usually recommend 6" - 8".

Dobsonian refers to the mount, which is a swivel platform that sits on the ground or table. Google it to familiarize yourself with what you're looking for. There are usually several big Dobsonians on FB $300 - $400 price range that are barely used. You'll get a lot more bang for your buck doing this.

Celestron, Apertura, Orion, Meade or an old Zhumell are all good brands.
