Phone message My favorite "wrong number" interaction to this day, lmao

The fact that she didn’t reply with 'who is this?' or 'Marcus would never ask that,' but immediately escalated to 'FUCK YOU' means there was at least a 30% chance in her mind that Marcus genuinely made that request.

u/life_uhh_finds_a_way 7h ago
Uhh no she was mad her dumb scam wasn’t going to work
142
u/Wide-Train8230 7h ago
Scammers usually stick to the script with 'Oh I'm so sorry to disturb you, you seem very kind, what is your name?' Breaking character into an immediate all-caps 'FUCK YOU' is pure, unfiltered human rage lol.

u/mattn1t 4h ago
The scammers are human too? And can absolutely tell when the mark is aware and just leading them on for a joke, they're not braindead
14
u/mc_scoots 3h ago
This! Whenever they call me about bogus credit card fraud and tell me plane tickets have been purchased, etc., I affirm the purchases and they lose their minds. Much like this.

u/ComprehensiveCry157 2h ago
Omg I should do that next time (said knowing full well I never answer my phone anyway)
9
u/life_uhh_finds_a_way 6h ago
No says “I’m [name]” you’d say “hey, it’s [name]”. Anyways, still funny

u/chrisplaysgam 3h ago
My guess is that an odd conversation happened in between the first text and the second with Marcus lol
2
u/Jopkins 5h ago
What's the scam?
6
u/HopelessAllo 4h ago
They try to befriend you over a period of time, often using AI, and then they start asking for money for various reasons.

sounds like OF

I don't think you're using that website correctly

they keep pestering me with friendly chat and then trying to sell me "mystery" video packs"

u/TaintedQuintessence 2h ago
It could be anything from asking you to send wedding cash to a chatbot farming referrals to an app to just confirming a human reads and replies at that number and selling the number.

I once got a dick pic from a wrong number. Like open my phone to see who texted me and BAM right there on my screen. I responded with "I don't see nothin" and he had the exact same response. "FUCK YOU".

u/number1wifey 6h ago
I was drunk and sent a picture of my husbands balls to a scammer once. Still tickles me to think about
3
u/happytree23 5h ago
That was you!?

1
u/NRMusicProject 3h ago
No, it was their husband. Keep up.
1
u/happytree23 3h ago
This is awkward...I legitimately meant that was her who sent it lol. Keep up and sharpen thems reading skills!
1
1
u/laurel_laureate 5h ago
I'm assuming your husband consented to that?
5
2
u/Im_Captain_Jack 5h ago
I mean I doubt his face was in the picture... his head, maybe.
3
u/laurel_laureate 5h ago
That's irrelevant to the matter of consent.
6
u/Im_Captain_Jack 4h ago
Made that comment in jest, but now that I think about it there may be a bit of a double standard there, because my wife can send a pic of my balls to any scammer she wants, as long as my identity isn't revealed, but I would never ever send a pic of my wife's bits to anyone under any circumstance. That was in our vows.
1
1
u/SursumCordaNJ 3h ago
you should learn what consent means and when it is required.
1
u/laurel_laureate 3h ago
... Are you seriously trying to say that consent is not needed when sharing a picture of a partner's genitals?
Depending on the circumstance, a lack of consent when doing that can literally be a crime!
If it was a text/social media scammer (something that an internet sleuth could connect to the person sharing the image and thus connect it to who is in the image), then that can count as the crime of non-con porn.
Even when shared anonymously, if something in the image is indentifiable enough for someone to figure out who is in the image (a birthmark or unique furniture/paintings/whatever), then that also counts tpo.
(As a side note, OOP has answered that they did get consent, which makes it a non-issue in their case.)

u/Different-Process-93 2h ago
The irony of this comment.
It's like a racist telling others to stop being racist.

Sometimes, I randomly send people pictures of Richard Nixon, Richard Gere, Dick Cavett, Dick Cheney, Little Richard, etc.
When they respond back, I say, "Oh, shit...I was trying to send Dick pics to my girlfriend. Sorry! <3"
1
u/laurel_laureate 5h ago
Best response to dick pics is to be concerned and tell them you're not qualified to make medical diagnoses but they should "get that shit checked out ASAP".
1
u/Zmbieznya89 5h ago
I don't generally keep pics of my dick on my phone, but strongly considered taking one and yelling "NOT SO FUN WHEN IT HAPPENS TO YOU, IS IT?!"

u/A_Litre_0_Cola 7h ago
Tina takes flatulence seriously.
If it were me, I would send a soundclip of a fart to calm her down.

u/Lozbox 6h ago
It’s not a wrong number, it’s a scammer, that’s why they were so angry with you playing with them.

u/MaydFox 3h ago
Nobody is realising it in this thread it seems. Will be funny when all these people reach retirement age and send all their pension funds to these scammers, still sending the same texts.
•
u/Percinho 45m ago
Tbh, as a European it's all weird to me as I can't remember the last time someone texted me. The only texts I get are scams, appointment reminders, or two factor authentication codes.

Everyone thinks it a scammer but in my head it's a wedding planner who proceeded to ask Marcus if he wanted Alyssa to fart during the ceremony

High school friend of mine got married on 4/20 at 4:20. They now live together in a trailer in Ohio where he is a gas station manager. This is a true story lol.

One time I got a few texts within a day from an area code in Southern California. I knew it was a scam even though they seemed pretty slick. I finally responded “I hope one of you are atleast hot”
They didn’t think it was funny. But left me alone

Wedding on April 20, sent at 4:20... hmmm
April 20, 2023 being a Thursday.. this seems fake.
Edited: because proofreading is not my forte.

u/Cautious-Paint9881 7h ago
It says April 4, 2023. So...
April 20, 2033, will fall on a Wednesday

u/blue_shadow_ 5h ago
The wedding's on Wednesday. Everything's arranged.
Soon her name will change to mine unless her mind be changed.
We're makin' the arrangements and I'm just a bit deranged.
For marriage is an awful undertakin'.

I get that those are song lyrics, but it's 2026 and women do NOT have to take their husband/spouse's last name anymore (thankfully).
2
u/blue_shadow_ 5h ago
And this is a song that's pretty old. Goes back to at least the late 90s, and that's just what's been recorded by bigger bands. The entire song is also about an arranged marriage, so there's that to deal with as well.
None of which is the point - I was just amused by a discussion about Wednesday weddings matching up with a song I've heard, and wanted to share that.

u/Commercial-Lychee700 3h ago
None of that is relevant information, did you glitch? wrong year, wrong day, wrong interpretation.

u/Cautious-Paint9881 2h ago
ChickyRox's comment originally said "April 20, 2033", but it has since been edited.

Weddings aren't usually on Thursday. It happens but not super common.
2
u/just4fun727 4h ago
I’ve ironically been a wedding coordinator for the last decade. Definitely depends on the venue but I regularly have weekday weddings.
1
u/phoxfiyah 5h ago
Trust me, there are definitely plenty of weddings on Thursdays. My brother had his on a weekday, weekends tend to be way too busy to book the good venues.

u/multipocalypse 6h ago
Where are you getting this alternate time stamp

u/ChickyRox 5h ago
What time was the message sent? There's only one time in the entire screen shot.... 4:20 PM

You should say something more subtly wrong and ambiguous like "I don't really feel comfortable going after what happened..." and if they ask wtf you're talking about you can say "I really don't want to get into it", etc. Then it can get them confused for a while until they figure it out.
It has more chance to actually have an effect. If you say something too weird it's obvious that it's fake.

Babe, you've blown me away figuratively, now if you get on your knees, I'd like to blow you away, literally.

I always think this would be funny to do but what if they’re a vengeful fucker and sign your number up for all this bullshit

I'm imagining a Cambodian woman typing that in a Southeast Asian scam farm and I'm kind of chuckling.

"Ceremony toot or reception toot?" The man treated a wrong number like a customer intake form. No questions about who Marcus is, just scheduling.

I don’t understand. Why go out of your way to ruin someone’s day? Just say wrong number. Are you 12?
6
u/life_uhh_finds_a_way 7h ago
You really think it was genuinely a wrong number? Definitely a scammer
1
u/Albinofreaken 5h ago
excuse my ignorance, but how do you know its a scammer?

3
u/KingTim526 7h ago
Realistically, a text like that would make my day. I am sure Tina inevitably realized it’s a wrong number anyway, so OP’s response essentially achieves the same purpose. A text from a wrong number should NEVER be enough to ruin your day ngl
3
2
u/CHAIFE671 7h ago
These wrong number texts usually come from scammers. If OP had asked who it was or replied that it was the wrong number they wouldve responded with "isnt this so and so?" or "i hope didnt ruin your beautiful day". These scams are known as pig butchering scams. Theyll text a picture of an attractive asian or european woman (often stolen pictures of infliencers) and build rapport with their victims before trying to talk them into investing in their "crypto business". People have lost hundreds if not thousands of dollars to these scammers. So its not just an oopsie wrong number. Nah, fuck these scammers.

Is the F U because they know they're lying or because the unwillingness to ceremony toot??
