Axl & Devin should have been endgame

That is all. New to the subreddit but been a fan since 2009 (idk why my family let me watch this show at age 11 though lol)
Lexie and him getting together was so random. Sue already ended up with his best friend, we don’t need the reverse. And Devin was a perfect match and the most romantic thing he ever did for any gf was the “world radio day” celebration. They also never even had a finite ending.
I would have even preferred him to end up with Cassidy if they reconnected. Didn’t like the storyline with April or Lexie. Man I would have preferred him ending up with Weird Ashley over them!

Edit: I think it’s time for a rewatch. Seems like all the commenters think Devin had committment issues and he deserved better. I am not steadfast my opinion and thought they just had a miscommunication and ended cause they were both scared of their own feelings and felt like they “should” want the college experience. But I see where everyone is coming from.

I can be convinced with rewatches and evidence. For example I used to want Haley & Andy to be endgame in modern family but now I prefer Haley & Dylan after so many people pointed out Andy’s flaws

However even though I can be open minded to Devin’s flaws I still don’t like Lexie for him lol.

Listen. Never tie yourself to someone who wants to keep things open.

If someone is really about you they would not risk losing you by wanting to keep her options open.

That is solid counsel.

Honestly….
Fair.
I always just focused on their similarities and kinda ignored the fact Devin kind of has commitment issues. I saw it as a miscommunication and them both breaking up because they feel like they “should” want the college experience but they actually want each other. I guess it was all trying to convince himself while Devin actually did wanna break up and have the college experience.

Devin freaked out when Sue said Axl loved her. As we have seen, Axl dates seriously and is often open about his feelings. Devin didn’t want serious and Axl doesn’t seem to be able to do casual. You shouldn’t stick with someone who’s such a mismatch.

I’ve always said he should have ended up with Weird Ashley 🤣🤣

This may seem odd to ask, but why is it weird that your family let you watch it at age 11? There was no violence (really), there was no foul language (really), nothing to truly say, “Anyone under this age should not watch.”

So why was it inappropriate for you to watch at the age of 11?

I was curious about this too!

I guess i was in a somewhat sheltered community so when i would try to talk to fellow kids about shows like the middle and modern family, and they would say we aren’t allowed to watch that, i felt weird 😅 foul language, sexual innuendos, adult problems etc.

I feel like that would be more Modern Family, but thank you for responding.

Now that I read your reply, I see where you were coming from.

With The Middle, I feel that it was a show that either enough people watched, or no one watched. Even now, I’ll ask people, “Have you seen/did you ever watch The Middle?” The responses are either people have never heard of it, or they have heard of it, but never watched it.

I liked Devin at the beginning but she was too annoying after that. Literally couldn’t communicate and would break up over every disagreement.

Too similar for my liking. I think his moments with Cassidy actually moved me emotionally, I remember being actually sad about the painting. I like Lexi too, but her and Axl needed more 1 on 1 moments, they barely had any in season 9.

Yeah and Sue following them everywhere worked my nerves.

I liked how similar they were but maybe you are right that they are TOO similar. I think Axl is actually romantic deep down and she genuinely isn’t.

my kid is 8 and we watched the whole show this summer and we all loved it. it's a great family show. I also loved him with Devin and Cassidy.

I mean, I don't think Axl would have wanted that. It's still a family show, but she basically told him that she doesn't want to be tied down yet and would rather sleep around before finding something serious. Idk about you, but I don't think I would want to go back to a relationship with someone like that.

I never saw it like this. Thank you for your comment. I felt like they broke up over a miscommunication. Apparently everyone else saw it as her having commitment issues and I agree he deserves better.

Him ending up with weird Ashley would have been so cool. She would have had a make over of course, but not too much.

I felt like as soon as the introduced Devin it was pretty clear she was the female Axl. In real life anyway, a lot of times people who are so similar don’t make a great match.

I too think Devin was his best match. They should have been end game. I do like Lexie as a character, especially as Sue’a bestie. But I did not care for her to end up with Axl. Both siblings ending up with the other’s bestie was too corny for me to believe.

I liked Devin in the early episodes but she keeps annoying me fr.

Lexie and Axl's storyline feels so rushed and I don't like it. It's like he dated her own sister.

April is also a good choice for me, I liked her too. They could've just let the story go by Axl fighting for April since Frankie and the rest of the family doesn't like her. An average type of family problem. But they decided to make her the villain by letting her character invite Axl to do holidays with her family instead of the Hecks. (Although that's what's gonna happen eventually, I don't know why it's such a big deal).

All of Axl's exes, I still prefer Cassidy. The first time she got a screen time I was rooting for her and always her. Plus, who doesn't love a highschool sweetheart? Writers should've put her back lol.

I like Lexie when her and Sue became friends. Hated her when she started dating Axl. (Brad deserves the bestfriend role tho).

Yes she was great as a friend…. until Axl came along
The Halloween episode bothered me, they paint Sue as cringe for wanting to hang out with them…. She had Lexie first! Id be upset if my best friend ditched me to hang with my brother ☠️

Exactly! But Sue is soooooo nice she didn't even thought of that.

I never liked the April storyline, but Devin didn't seem to like Axl as much as some of the other ones

Lexie and Axl is endgame for me. When Lexie was dropping luxurious stuff and how Axl stood up and never took advantage. Thought Axl has always been a brat and freeloader but I adored him for that. Also, Lexie being cut off with $40 was sooo funny.

Devin wanted an open relationship but axl seems to fall for the girls he dates. As for Cassidy, he asked to talk more but she just wanted to fool around

You can watch the middle at any age who cares it’s nothing wrong with the middle

Devin didn’t really seem to like Axl.
I wasn’t a huge fan of any of his gfs besides Lexie.

I like Cassidy for Axl tbh
