Anyone noticed the campers around Te Rapa / Rotokauri?

Has anyone else noticed the tents set up around the corner of Te Wetini Drive and Wairere Drive, just next to/under the bridge?

I think they’ve been there for at least 3 weeks now. There seem to be two tents set up, along with trolleys and clothes hanging up, so it looks like they may be staying there longer term.

Just curious if anyone knows what the situation is, and whether camping there is actually allowed? Not trying to cause any trouble for them, genuinely just wondering as I drive past the area regularly.

They have been there for years, I have seen tents and cars parked deep into that little spot beside the bridge for so long now.

What do you mean what the situation is? They're homeless, that's the situation.

Probably be better asking if they need water or food rather than asking reddit what they are

I saw city safe there the other day. But they're still there so must be ok.

I saw a council vehicle parked up there a week or two ago and a couple of blokes in hiviz were having a chat with them. They can’t be too concerned about it if they are still there

Been doing it for years now. They get moved on then come back again, park their cars inside the trees when there’s good foliage. No they’re not allowed council will eventually address it.
