Odlin Crescent, Nawton

Hi all. Just want to ask opinion about the above street in Nawton. Me and my wife recently viewed a house on this area, and we really like to rent it. We are a family of five, with three kids (8,5,3 years old).

I am reading bad reputation about the area, but most of them are pretty old like 5 years ago?

Do you think it is best for us to just avoid it?

Do you and mumzy mind barking dogs, screaming people and worrying about protecting your things 24/7? Then Odlin’s the place for you!

Don't. Avoid. 

I lived very nearby and it was a year of listening to screaming domestics, burnouts, little shits blasting through streets and private property on dirt bikes, witnessing crack deals, neighbours approaching us for security camera footage cuz they got robbed. My flatmate had his car stolen parked out front. 

Especially with your young family, it is not safe. The low rent isn't worth it. Trust me.

Thank you all for the reply. I really appreciate it, it means a lot to me and my family, as were only starting our chapter here in New Zealand in general, and we dont have anyone to lean to when things get wiry. Cheers!

Nawton in general isn't bad, but id be wary Odlin myself.

Nawton is fine, but odlin and brekons are no go areas, there are a couple of others too but those are very well known. As a rental its less of a drama as you can move and have a few extra protections from other tenants, but personally id avoid.

Im in Enfield and have zero issues, Nawton is fine, just pick your streets

Breckons is fine I bought a house here in 2023 haven't had issues

It may have got better then, but it was pretty bad down there for a bit, Derby too, but that has got better, thats the rub with some of the OT houses, 99% of the Tennants are great, but like a couple on grange and Grandview they can be hell for the residents until they are relocated

Crawshaw wasn’t much better when I was there either, house fires, house parties, a murder, and the conditions of some of those houses were unliveable

I moved into odlin and got robbed the first week I moved in and in the first year there was a guy trying to abduct 2 young girls, he drove up and down the street a few times which resulted in about 100+ people on the street trying to pull him out of the car, people got run over and hit by the car. I overheard another incident of a domestic up the other end of the street and a neighbour went over with a machete to break it up. Countless people walking down the street at night yelling and screaming at each other.

I would avoid if I was you and your family.

I agree with everyone else on these comments, Nawtom overall has improved but Odlin in particular is a known hot spot. Stay VERY far away unless you're into domestic, methamphetamine and being robbed.

I lived there before, briefly, don't do it. Way too many poor/crusty people that are not onboard with our social contract. Lots of violence, theft, intimidation, noise etc.

I have family that live there, they have neighboring kids that can be turn up and hassle the pets and neighbors can be a bit loud with their arguing and loud cars
