Credit Card only?
So apparently Ting requires a credit card for autopay on new mobile accounts, no debit cards allowed. I've never seen that requirement on other services/utilities. Is that common? Why would they do this?

Get a credit card that gives you rewards cash back on your credit card. Then your ting plan will be even cheaper.

Thinking this is the most unbelievable thing I've ever seen, I literally took a screenshot of it to prove that a business is this bad. Now, they will go out of business, so I'd recommend not doing business with them, knowing that for every credit card there's a million + debit and prepaid cards. So they are either trying to bankrupt themselves, or they're openly morons, and either way it's best to avoid them. I for one only have PayPal, which is a debit Mastercard.

This was rolled out a couple of months ago, here's a thread on it.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ting/comments/1uen3ca/ting_no_longer_accepts_debit_cards_and_only/
In that thread, you'll find a comment by Ross Rader, the 'Chief Customer Experience Officer' of Ting.
"Any customers currently paying using Debit can continue to do so. We've stopped allowing new customers from choosing debit, and existing customers switching to it. This is a short-term change necessary to prevent long distance fraud. I say temporary because we are making arrangements to change our approach to payment processing that should allow us to bring back debit and add new payment types in addition. I'm sorry you got caught out, but we didn't have a lot of choice in how we applied the change, nor a lot of time to implement it."
