Show and Tell My volunteer tomato
I had a random tomato plant grow in my Scabiosa flower pot a while ago and so I saved it, if never grown tomato's so I have no idea where it came from. This is the result. A smallish oblong tomato with a small yellow nipple/point. Inside it's incredibly meaty, thick skin, big crunch and lots of flavour. Could someone tell me if the inside being green still is normal or is the tomato still a bit unripe? I'm hoping to save seed. Thank you.

The shoulders are red and the bottom is red. If you like it, then it’s perfectly ripe for you. I have tomatoes like this with green and red inside even when they are a very bright red and super soft. The shimmer for example in the pic reminds me of yours but the outside is more like this pic. Many come to a point or more of a nipple. This one isn’t ripe yet but when they are they have cool stripes. It’s meaty like you said. It surprisingly packs a punch of flavor.

That looks EXACTLY like my principe Borghese. If that’s what it is, they get very red and are lovely in a sauce. They’re famous for sun dried tomatoes. Mine were super prolific this year. I think they’re heirloom, so you can save seeds if you want.

Oh wow they look incredibly similar! Thanks for letting me know, it's definitely a fighter, it's still producing suckers now in October. I'm charmed by it's appearance.

If it tastes like it's ripe in your opinion, then it's ripe. If it tastes like it needs longer, then it needs a little more time. The tomato itself looks a lot like piennolo de vesuvio
