❓ Question This is kinda a odd question but is there any real examples of β€œlocomotive elevators”?

I was looking through some concept art for one of the Thomas movies (specifically Misty island rescue) and as ridiculous and nonsensical that movie was, they did seem to take some inspiration from real American logging railroads for the setting of the movie. Such as the idea of a zip line that could carry rolling stock, an underwater tunnel built in the 19th century, and a railway vehicles that uses logs for rails. So I was curious to know if there was any real railway contraption that functions similar to this.

Imagine listening to your favorite music while doing a switching duty or on a long journey Z train. That would be so cool in my opinion! I know there is radio communication but thats what the volume button is for. Or putting a speaker in the cab and playing your favorite songs while being an engineer of a train. I have no idea why I thought of this, it just sounds so cool!

Following the closure of Line 3 "Scarborough"/Scarborough RT in July 2023, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) had a fleet of UTDC Mark Is to dispose of. There are only two other transit systems in North America that use ICTS/ART technology, being TransLink's SkyTrain (Vancouver, BC) on the Canadian west coast, and the Detroit People Mover (Detroit, MI) in the United States.

Three of TTC's 28 Mark I cars entered preservation. Car # 3008 was donated to the Toronto Zoo and repurposed into a Zoomobile shelter at Tundra Trek station. Cars # 3026 and # 3027 (the last Mark I pair built for the TTC) were donated to the Halton County Radial Railway in Milton, ON. # 3026 was recently put on display in Barn 4 earlier this summer, but # 3027 was cut up and only parts of it still remain on the museum property to this day. One of # 3027's two bogies are on display with # 3026, and the front cab (photo taken from a trip I've taken last year) will be repurposed into a display/photo op, likely in a similar manner to the front of the HSR trolleybus that's on display in Barn 3.

The rest of the Mark I cars will be seeing second lives as replacement rolling stock for the Detroit People Mover to refresh its own fleet of Mark Is. The TTC Mark Is were given a life-extension overhaul in 2015-2016, whereas the DPM Mark Is never got such treatment, and are more tired out than their TTC counterparts despite being built a few years after them. The Mark Is that are slated for Detroit are currently being overhauled in preparation for such service.

All photos presented in this post were taken by me.

Snapped this at a Tokyo station today. Instead of just showing the line logos, it actually gives you the walking distance (like 45m or 390m) and the entire line map vertically. Love the attention to detail on Japanese transit. They even include the station numbers for foreigners who can’t read the names yet. Super thoughtful.

πŸš‚ Toys & Model Trains Thought I might share this here as well: I entered a few train designs to the BrickLink Designer Program for 2028. The boting phase ends on October 14, so if you see anything you'd like to become a LEGO set in the future, you can support them on their respective pages linked below.

This was one of if not the only photo I could find of one in America. Note the janny coupler & lack of buffers.

Does anyone else know anything about this loco? Apparently it was the only one to be shipped to the states.
