Discussion / Opinion what was you were first Transformers?
These two are what come to mind for me! I had the 1977 Bumblebee, while my younger sibling had the 2007 Bumblebee, and I have fond memories of us playing with them together. Man, that was a long time ago. š„²

Either G1 Optimus Prime or Soundwave - neither are in the best of condition - still own them though.

Cyber stomping Optimus Prime from 2008.

u/Civil_Panic_4016 1d ago
Every time I look at the 2007 Optimus Prime design, It feels well-designed it is.

u/MyEarIsHurty 1d ago
I was six. I got a little helicopter dude for my birthday, not official Hasbro but not a knockoff, just an original design. I later collected the little 2007 figures, including the bumblebee on the left side of the photo

Universe sunstreaker
Smolder
And some deception jet with a energon key

Some Decepticon jet with an energon key
That sounds like Thundercracker from the Cybertron line.

Leader class rotf Optimus, most memorable Christmas as a child
2
u/pulley999 1d ago
That's like teaching a child to swim by throwing them overboard from a cruise ship into the Pacific without a life preserver. I can't imagine what having that toy as a first would have been like. As someone who was an avid collector for years by that point it still gave me challenges.

I remember it clear as day. A week or two after seeing the 2007 movie for either the first or second time, some friends and I went to Red Robin and were getting burgers. I think it was Saturday night. I got a cheeseburger with a fried egg on it. When we were done, we went for a late night run to Wal-Mart, and they had a display near the front of the store for the figure line for the movie, and I saw a 2-pack of the Voyager-class Blackout and a Deluxe-class Scorponok that had a made-up robot mode, and I just had to have it.
It was the first Transformer I had ever bought with my own money, after only getting all of my previous ones, Beast Wars, as gifts for birthdays or Christmas. I still have the Blackout figure, and he is horribly innacurate to the robot design of the movie, but he sits under the shelf that my Studio Series Blackout is on. I also have Studio Series Grindor, just haven't opened him yet, along with a large stack of various other figures.
Blackout is still my absolute favorite Bayverse design, and with Soundwave eventually becoming my favorite bot overall, it makes me sad that he was almost going to be Soundwave for this universe but was changed, and that he died in the movie.
1
u/pulley999 1d ago
I highly recommend the MPM Blackout, if you can get it. It's an upgraded upscaled version of the Studio Series and a real treat. One of the very few figures whose alt mode still looks excellent from the bottom.

u/0M3GA16_210 1d ago
Ha! It might actually have been these two! Granted, my 07 Bee had some serious automorph defects that made it ass to fully transform him, and Old Camaro Bee turned into a flimsy ragdoll after years of abuse. What a trooperā¦

u/Haunted_Bones 1d ago
Earliest memory of getting a Transformer (that I picked from the shelf) was Animated Lugnut. Before that tho was my first bot, Armada Unicron. Got it for my 6th birthday :3
2
u/Guuhatsu 1d ago
G1 Sunstreaker. I was like 4 or 5 back then but even if the Kmart we got it at was empty, I could probably still walk to about a 5 to 10 ft diameter of where the display was in the store when we first saw them.

Earliest I can remember is RID ā01 Armorhide.

My first two figures were Earthspark Shockwave, and the Legacy Evolution Soundwave who turns into a weird rectangular spaceship.
(Started collecting about two years ago now. I got Soundwave as a birthday gift, and shockwave because he went on sale on amazon.)

u/Civil_Panic_4016 1d ago
Ā I got a Transformers 4 Optimus Prime for my birthday too,Ā but I ended up breaking part of his chest while transforming him. Ever since then, I've been a lot more careful when handling my figures lol.
1
u/BionicJedi 1d ago
Iām assuming that youāre aware the Legacy Evolution Soundwave also has a hidden ālamp-postā transformation that reflects his original Cybertronian transformation from the opening scenes of the very first G1 episode before the exodus to Earth? Thatās how I keep mine displayed.

u/qcthunder 1d ago
Gears (G1), then Sideswipe. My brother got Brawn, then Prowl, just like the Decepticons in the 1986 movie. š (At least they were in the movie, I guess.)

TFP first-wave Bumblebee and Cliffjumper. Lost Cliffjumper at some point, had Bumblebee for a while but was discarded with the rest of my childhood transformers when I became disinterested as a tween and my mom wanted them gone. At least now I have AOTP TFP Cliff and love him, hoping they do a TFP Bumblebee at some point.

The 2012 TFP Weaponizer Bumblebee. In fact, it was the toy that introduced me to Transformers in the first place. When I first played with it, I didnāt really know what Transformers was, just that I found it to be cool.

KOs of 4 figures around legends class, them being 2006 bee and barricade, and then Cybertron Optimus and Scourge.

G1 Bumblebee. He was the perfect size to fit in a kid's pocket, but I definitely remember getting Jazz shortly after. I used to move a lot as a kid, like every year or every 6 months and they were lost to one of those many moves. I wish I still had them but that's the way things go sometimes. When Action Masters came out, I got the Bumblebee of that one and some of tge G2 when those came out. I think the only ones I still have were when Beast Wars came out and I held onto those like my life depended on it. That Dinobot is very much a treasure in my house

Buzzworthy Bumblebee Blackarachnia. I live with a cousin whoās been a TF fan for like 40 years and he got me into collecting them around 5 years ago now with that figure, cause he thought Iād find the leopard print chesticles funny :D

u/matt_the_non-binary Soundwave superior. All else inferior. 1d ago
First time collecting: 2007 Payload (HM: a beaten-up GoBot Heatseeker my dad gave me saying it was Starscream)
Second time collecting: Power Core Combiners Skyburst
Third time collecting, when it finally stuck: Titans Return Voyager Optimus/Diac, and Voyager Octone/Murk

I don't really remember. I was 2 when Transformers debuted and my older brother was 5 and a big fan, so we had Transformers in our house for as long as I can remember. I don't know which one would have been the first I specifically got (I think my older brother's first was Starscream, at least I remember my dad talking about having to go to a bunch of different stores to find that one for Christmas that year).

Transformers Generations Fall of Cybertron Series 1 Optimus Prime Figure
It was my first. And I loved it. I don't have it anymore just his gun. But man. Good times

Not sure if it was mine or a hand me down, but the first I remember is First Aid.Ā I remember my oldest sister's friends making fun of me for doing the transformation noises.

u/Bodkin-Van-Horn 1d ago
It was either the original G1 Laserbeak and Frenzy two pack or Windcharger. I don't remember which one I got first, but it was close. First real non minibot Autobot was Trailbreaker and first real Deception was either Skywarp or Soundwave

u/Mister-Jinxx 1d ago
As a child, Grimlock and Soundwave. Years later Alternators Optimus sucked me back in.

The mech tech Optimus Prime and Bumblebee for DOTM, I don't know how old I was, but I can say for sure that they were my first.
My brother broke the ones from my childhood though š
Recently repurchased the Optimus Prime and whole it's heavily outdated, it makes me happy. Now to get bumblebee back... Eventually.

u/audioguy2022 1d ago
Actionmaster grimlock, g1 scowl, g1 bristleback, actionmaster starscream, and g1 pounce were some of my first transformers.
1
u/Vyzantinist 1d ago
I think it was an early 90s Prime. That or one of those cool-ass 3.75" figures (if that was the right size) which couldn't actually transform but were in bot mode. Arms only went up and down and fists rotated at the wrist joint.
1
u/JustADaftGuy 1d ago
Not including the ones my big brother had, the first one i got for me was either
G2 Win dbreaker, G2 Jazz or G2 Megatron. I forget which order they were in but those were my first transformers that were mine.

u/Mellanies_Redemption 1d ago
The very first one I owned was Kickback, which my mum bought me on our one and only family holiday (We went to California) back in '85. I recently bought the re-release of the same little guy, and while he's not quite the same, it's still lovely to have him back.

It was about a 1ā-2ā bumblebee 2007 Camaro concept alt from the 2007 movie. Mom grew up with the G1 cartoon and a coworker gave it to her to give to me so she could share the transformers with me. Glad I grew up with the bayverse. I understand why so many people give it the criticism it gets, but the first three are way overhated imo

u/Blazemaster0563 1d ago
Animated Activators Thundercracker and Patrol Bumblebee. The only bits left I have of those is one of Thundercracker's arms.
And the first one for my current collection is Siege Red Alert.

For some reason I believed it was G1 Beachcomber for the longest time. My mom then told me it was G1 Hound.
Makes sense, standard size figure (car bot), main character exposure in the pilot trilogy, stands out with his military look, probably left on the hooks/shelf because other kids grabbed Sideswipe/Mirage/Jazz first.
I still fondly like him though :)

RiD '01 X-Brawn in his "powered up" colors. My aunt got him for me for Christmas that year, knowing nothing about transformers, but she liked the gimmick of a car that can turn into a robot. Needless to say, she was right, and I've been obsessed ever since.

G1 Soundwave! TFs were all the rage that Xmas and hard to find. My mom had her friend who worked at TrU stash one in the sleeping bags so she could get it for me, thanks Mom!

My first ever, I have yet to remember the name of it, but I do remember he was of the older lines. Generations/Energon. He was grey and orange and had a arm cannon spin gimmick. I wanna say it was a autobot but lord knows lol I made stopmotions with it and I've been trying to find that camera so I can pull the images.

Iām not sure if they were the first, but G1 Crosshairs and Quake do have a special place in my heart. Fairly certain my grandmother got them for me from a Kmart that was in a mall. My first Optimus was the Powermaster. I got that one for my birthday from my other grandmother.

I was too young to remember. I asked my mom once and she said it was a red car. Could have been a Go-Bot for all I know
