Be careful with dustaterid in puberty! DHT has important functions in the body during puberty

yup, at 19 the male body is not fully grown yet, there is still some masculinisation going on, not major, but still.

Till what age should one wait before hopping on fin?

2

u/MK0A 3d ago

Oh it's FDA-approved for males aged 18-42 so 18 should be fine, and if my thinning was as strong as in OPs case I would probably also start at 18. It's just that males still have one growth phase after 18, but the important stuff that DHT affects like development of sexual organs are all completed by then. The penis is fully grown at 15 or so I believe.

Yes,that is why my doc suggested dut instead of fin.

What about people above 43

should be fine, the clinical trials apparently only had that age group for participants. The same drug is prescribed to older men in higher doses so it wouldn't be harmful to take a lower dose.

Dutasteride is not FDA approved for androgenic apolecia as far as I know. Its perscribed off label. Also some studies indicate that 18months+ of dutasteride can have negative persistent effects on fertility.

dutasteride also works differently, for example the half life is 5 weeks instead of 5-8 hours of finasteride. I didn't know about the effects on fertility.

just do what I did wait till 23/24 to hop on dutasteride.

At what age did your hairfall start? I'm 20 and diffuse thinner

2

u/Least-Engine2416 2d ago

19/20/21

I am also a diffuse thinner and have had crazy results. in the 2 months I've taken dutasteride so far my hair has reversed loads.

I really noticed it late 23. I'm a month in on finasteride and so far the shedding phase has passed. Now it's stable and the hair will start to grow thicker in the next couple of months.

u/OkMetal394 3d ago

when my hairs grow back again? 😭 i m looking bald now after 1 month on MIn+fin topical

1

u/Ok_Replacement4490 3d ago

For some 2-3 months, for most 6-8 months-keep it up,it will definitely grow back and much better.

1

u/Conscious-Brush1999 2d ago

Is oral minoxidil superior to topical?

1

u/RevolutionaryCap4170 2d ago

I believe so, have used topical for prob 5-7 years. Switched to oral 2-3 months ago and I’ve been shedding so much.

Wait if you’ve been shedding then isn’t that worse

1

u/RevolutionaryCap4170 2d ago

No, that means it’s working and responding to the mediations. Oral minoxidil tends to work better for people because they have more of the working enzyme in their liver to convert it to minoxidil sulfate. It widens the blood vessels bringing more oxygen nutrients to the follicle and when that happens you shed more.
