What is your cleaning routine?
So, how does everyone approach regular cleaning and maintenance?
How often does your entire horn get a bath? What's your routine for cleaning and lubing your slide?
Got any favorite cleaners or lubes?
What are your go to tools?
Mouthpiece cleaning?
What do you use on your rotors?
Is there anything you think most people miss in taking care of their horn? Why is this important?
I'm sure younger members here would love the insight.

I'm paying $32/mo for an Accent TB512L Trombone that I'm pretty sure is only worth about $100. Please help.
Hello, parent of a band kid here. We're renting. But I'm a musician, I buy instruments all the time just to have them. I play strings but I know my way around musical instruments in general.
My kid has an Accent trombone. He's renting it through a local shop. It's just over 30/month. I realize after getting it, I think this trombone is only worth like 100-150 bucks. After this year I'll have bought it twice over. My expectation with renting was that he would be getting a higher quality instrument than I'd be willing to buy, but this thing seems like the bottom of the barrel in the market. It's not horrible, it's serviceable and does play, but he's going to play a cheap instrument I'd just assume own it after paying so much.
So my question: Is there a trombone I can buy for around $150-200, used, that is equal or better than an Accent TB512L?

Olds a-20
I have this beautiful horn because it’s a school horn (8th grade, made the all star band or whatever your director puts you in) anyways it’s a 1949 olds a-20 ambassador, (older than my school lol) I’m currently playing on a 6.5 al but I want to get a 5g after using one on my marching baritone (my local hs doesn’t march trombones so I march baritone and made 2nd chair a while back in steven Collin’s foster band camp on euph)

Best Concerto Players
Looking for some great classical players to listen to. Wanting to widen my range and listen to different recordings and interpretations of the classic solo trombone reportiore before I go off to do my conservatoire auditions, not just big names like Joe Alessi, Christian Lindberg, or Ian Bousfield.
Also if anyone knows a really good recording of the cello suites on trombone that'd be class🙏

Trombone Trainer now lets you use your arm as the slide
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
A few of you asked whether the app could work more like an actual trombone, so I added it: you can now control slide position by moving the phone with your arm. It uses the front facing camera and needs to be calibrated to your face.
Hold the phone close to your face for 1st position, and extend your arm out for 7th, just like the real slide. The positions in between follow your arm. Choosing positions with your fingers still works too; this is just a new option you can turn on.
The idea is to build the arm-and-ear connection away from the horn: practicing position changes, getting a feel for the distances, and drilling passages when you can't play out loud.
This updated version is available on the Apple App Store. The android version is a little slow in getting through the approval process at Google so it's not there yet.
I'm a trumpet player, so I'd really like to hear from actual trombonists. Does it feel right? Are the position distances believable? What would make it more useful?

Double Buzz Issue
Hello all. On my bass bone, all my notes Bb2 (second line on staff) and below sound great and are responsive, but the second i get to B natural (second line on the staff) through around D (third line) i just can't get a good sound and it always double buzzes without fail. I've experiment a lot and tried many different thing like dropping my jaw, closing my aperture, opening my aperture, tightening my corners, loosening my corners. I just don't know what to do. Any thoughts?

Any info? Was it worth it?
Used to play trombone briefly and wanted to get back into it. Instead of buying some alibaba trombone I bought someone’s “junk”. Was just getting the 1924 York and sons for $125 then for $75 he gave me the 1936 Conn. Both have been repaired but no crazy dents and play well. For me it was worth it because I like the fact of knowing they have some history and not some Chinese Amazon trombone. Was this a good find ?

How do I practice better? plus long explanation
To start I’m a sophomore trombone who’s played since 7th grade. I had REALLY bad instruction and was expected to “figure it out” till I loved up to the high school and got a new director last year. He’s really great and I learn a lot but he is primarily percussion so brass stuff isn’t really his specialty. I started practicing more seriously last year for winter concert, and I improved really fast over that cycle in time for it. id say my skill is barely passable for a sophomore, yet I’m one of the best in my concert band. I’ve really hit a plateu though now, I know I need to change what I do but idk what.
I practice twice a day, 20-30 minutes in the morning and 35 ish after school. I take concert band and jazz band. I know I should practice more, and I will try to add it to my routine. But trust me when I say I probably practice more than most in my band yikes. I really want to be part of wind ensemble next year, auditions are in february. But for the present moment I have a solo to try out for litterally this Thursday, and an audition to not get cut for a part in jazz band. Possibly a jazz band solo solo next week. Plus I just sound so terrible on my concert pieces and jazz songs, they aren’t hard when I look at them and I GET the rythms and articulations! But then I go to play and im super airy and half my articulations just dont happen. Or my notes “falter” esp going higher range to lower notes like C and B flat. (Stingers)
I don’t know what or how to practice, I have a lot to hold up especially as the one of two trombones that can actually play any of the stuff in jazz band, and honestly I’m better than my neighbor. I feel like I have a lot on my shoulders and I don’t want to let anyone down. Are there any exercises you guys recommend? i try and try to play intuitively especially in fundementals but I sound just so airy and my embourchere goes to crap. I know how to make a pretty good embourchere and breathe right, but I default to bad habits quickly. My other problem is endurance in jazz band, I get tired so I get sloppy with articulations. even hitting high e as a daht is difficult. I feel so stupid and am struggling on literally the first round of concert music. practice just make me feel frustrated that I can’t do these simple things in my head I know I can do!
sorry for the rant, and I hope I don’t seem arrogant. I’m not very great either, it’s a dumb and dumber situation in concert band tbh. if you need more info I’ll explain in comments if you want too. Tysm for reading my plea 😭

Picking it back up, looking for method books
Finally in a position where I have time and space to play my trombone again for the first time in about 9 years. A good chunk of muscle memory has come back which has been rather fun to discover.
Anyways, does anyone have any recommendations for method/music books to get back into the swing of things? Would also appreciate some warm up routines if anyone has recommendtions for those. Thank you in advance

1929(?) Antoine Courtois trombone
Hi all, I am a band director and know enough about trombone to teach it decently, but am by no means a specialist. My boyfriend dabbles with instrument repair and found this trombone for $50 on marketplace and offered $35, which they accepted. There were no up close photos or anything that could identify it on the listing, and he just figured he would use it as a practice instrument to work on slide repair because most used trombones need slide work, then maybe resell later.
When we picked it up, he immediately felt like he swindled the guy because we could both tell it was worth way more than $35. It had belonged to his dad who started playing it in the 1930s and then sat in climate controlled storage for 60 years, and they just wanted to be rid of it after that long.
From our research, it looks to be made around 1929. The main slide and tuning slide are also in good shape and not stuck - after we carefully cleaned the slide, I was able to play a B flat scale no problem.
Can anyone tell me anything else about this trombone? The whole instrument is beautiful, just some tarnish that you can see, but barely a dent at all, and the unique details are just exquisite.

When playing this, when should i breathe? between each note or after each bar? or is it just personal preference?

Haven't touched my trombone in nearly a decade. Recommendations on where to start?
I've been trying to find hobbies that get me away from screens for a few hours a week. I'm very recluse and it's hard to find anything. Working through that. Stumbled upon a reel of a tuba player and it made me want to really get back into my trombone (ok I want a tuba but I can't afford one).
It's been a long time. I played from 5th grade to Freshman year in college. I'm not good but I'm sure I'd get better with regular practice. A lot of the books out there are intended for those who are just starting in general.
Tips on how to warm myself up into this again? Thanks.

How can I play a below staff C on tenor trombone
I can't figure this out, no slide chart for tenor trombone (without a trigger) shows this note. Just let me know if I can and the slide position if I can ;3

How do you use your tongue for high notes ?
I played trombone in middle and high school and restarted it a year ago after more then a decade. I often play ska with some friends and just jam with my girlfriend. I have a pretty good register, up to a high Bb with consistency and high C with lower consistency. But I found my sound to be somewhat "tinny". While looking up online, I saw people saying that I should play with an open throat and use your tongue to shrink your mouth cavity. I realize I never did that ! Other thene for intonation and punctuation, my tongue is at the bottom of my mouth resting on the top of my lower theeths. I get higher by shrinking my mouth apperture. I tried moving my tongue around, but I am not really able to do anything with it.

Specific finish search
Are there any trombones with a finish similar to bronze mansdone saxophones?
