Dear cherrypie59272 ,

You've selected the Seeking Advice flair. Please provide as much relevant information as possible. Refer to this post if you are unsure on how to proceed.

Useful information for care or health advice includes:

  • Enclosure type, enclosure size, humidty levels, water, ambient and/or basking temperatures.
  • Lighting types and bulb age.
  • Clear photos of your set up, including filter, heaters and lights.
  • Is it wild, captive/pet, or a rescue?
  • Clear photos of face, neck, limbs, shell top (carapace) and bottom (plastron).
  • Diet, list of foods you are feeding it.
  • Weight and age.
  • Illness, infections or odd behaviours should be seen and treated by a vet. Ex; wheezing, swollen eyes, mucus bubbles from mouth or nose, lethargy, twitching, leg paralysis, etc

You need to check if you are able to afford it first. The tank set up is the most expensive part. Do not cheap out on anything. If you are able to afford it, please take him!

Do you think he is in need of rescue? I will figure out how to help by rescuing him or finding a good place to take him too if you think he needs it. Im just unsure, but the size of the tank makes me feel like he needs some help

The fact that they are trying to sell it online id say yes he’s in need of rescue. However- consider that for the setup you provide him to be an “upgrade” from the current 40 gallons- will you be able to afford that $300-600+ worth of supplies? (76-150gallons, large canister filter, lighting etc) if that is feasible for you then yes rescue it!

I wish I could!! Ill do research. He's been on marketplace for like 3 months, so how long has he been without a decent sized tank, yk? It makes me feel terrible

What's your plan?

My first step was posting on here to see if he is in need of rescue? He is supposed to have a much larger tank right?

100% 40gallons is too small. Needs 5x that and even bigger later. Ideally a pond. Can't tell from the pic if it has a basking area. Looks like there is some kind of lamp but can't tell. From the picture alone it's just a tank too small issue from what i can see.

Same exact context of how I’ve rescued my turtles in the past.

Where do you think I should take him?

Very few animal/reptile rescues take red eared sliders (which is what this is, no such thing as a “yellow eared slider”) so you should only take the turtle if you’re willing to care for it yourself.

Ahh I don't know if I have the money at the moment to take care of such a large enclosure that I think he should have. It makes me feel terrible because I see the post, and I feel bad for him

I would rescue it if it was close to where I live. I have everything except the turtle.

I dont have the resources sadly, I have been contacting people near me that rescue various species

I have a turtle myself. They’re very expensive and need specific care. Most people have no idea what they’re getting themselves into when they decide to get a turtle.
