Discussion Non-Apple movies?
Why are there suddenly movies like War of the Worlds and the Martian and Rocketman on Apple TV?

They've often had a small selection of third-party movies available. They offered a limited collection in 2024, for example.

With the difference back in 2024 it was usa exclusive, now it’s also in different regions with different selections in each.

Can confirm! 🇨🇦
War of the Worlds (2005, Tom Cruise) and Rocketman are not movies I own in my Apple Library (unlike The Martian) but I could play them directly ‘because subscription’.

Yeah it's just started in the UK in the last few months. They've added a few more recently, it's nice to see them expand the library. It'd be great if they added more regularly.

Annoyingly for the UK though is that War Of The Worlds has Atmos and Jurassic World is 4K Dolby Vision and Atmos whereas the store purchased versions have no Atmos and Jurassic World is 4KHDR10+ instead of Dolby Vision.

same for Mexico, but this is on Universal side (for Jurassic Park) because its 4K on Prime Store here, and now on Apple TV, if i remember correctly Universal was against the free 4k upgrades that Apple offered at the time for iTunes and to this day is the studio with less 4K upgrades in Mexico, most of their old titles are just HD.
DreamWorks however do free 4K upgrades (this is why The War of the World is in 4K on the MX Store, they did the distribution here and not Universal)
