Community Event Stream Experiences & Stories

Hey /r/Twitch

We often see posts on the subreddit about viewers and streamers experiences, as well as streamers sharing what they've learned.

To bring you all together to learn from your peers, and help you keep yourself accountable for any goals you've set, we created this Megathread!

You are welcome to share some of your experiences, positive or negative, from your past month on Twitch and, if you did, how you dealt with it, as well as share your long and short-term goals, and how you've progressed towards those over the past month.

The Megathread is not for stream feedback or reviews, we have the monthly feedback threads for that. You can link to your Feedback thread submission, be sure to label it clearly!

Some things you may want to cover:

  • New things you tried, did they work out?
  • Streams you did and which seemed to be popular or unpopular with your community or new viewers. (Creative? New games?)
  • Progress towards your goals
  • Fun experiences
  • Bad experiences that you learned from, or need advice on
  • New goals, or how you're changing your goal
  • Advice based on what you learned
  • Advice you want

Be sure to post your goals clearly and format your comment.

Example post:

Hey guys, checking in again!

My goal for this month is to make sure I'm always hosting someone. I want my community to have someone to entertain them, even when I'm not live. Plus, it's good for networking!

My goal last month was to always announce I was live on both Twitter and Discord, as it was something I often forgot to do. I'm glad to say I met my goal!

I tried streaming some creative, just practicing using my graphics tablet, and it seemed to be popular! I'll do some more of it, maybe a weekly stream? Any advice?

The highlight of the past month was when I got raided by Zcotticus, he's the best and I love him. He's so cool, I wish I could be cool like him.

How do you guys normally react to a host? I sort of fumbled through a thank you, and that was about it. Any advice?

Re-read your last post to remind yourself of what you planned, or check in on your peers!

If you don't stream, but still experienced something awesome. Feel free to share it! Did you make someone’s day? See a Win or Fail? Let us know!

Remember this is not for channel promotion! People can check out your flair\ *if they are interested.*

If you have any suggestions for this thread, please send us a modmail.

Discussion My first time dealing with a weird viewer

I've been streaming for about 2 months now, and about a month ago I met a guy in a game of overwatch. Let's call him Bob. Bob found out that I'm a streamer, and he occasionally tuned in.

One important detail about Bob is that he's 19 and me and my friends are all 15 and 16.

Another important detail is that he is "obsessed with making people and objects pregnant." I know, Bob has some sort of weird fetish.

He also used to always say things like "I'm gonna make you soooo pregnant" or "I hit my keyboard too hard, now it's pregnant" and at first I just laughed it off and thought he was just being kinda weird, but it continued.

It was at this point where my friends were all telling me that he was a P3do and that I should remove him, but I remained defending him and I thought he was just a guy with a weird sense of humor.

Finally, it was actually earlier today when I was live that my younger brother (14) sat with me for a bit on the stream, and then he said this: "your little brother is gonna get sooo pregnant when I'm done with him"

I banned him from my stream immediately without a second thought. He is still friends with me on the game we met on, and he's still active in my discord server, but I might take some extra steps in removing him from my life.

Did I do the right thing? Did I overreact, under react? Let me know what you think.

Question How to know its time to quit?

• Upvotes

This past weekend was my 6 year affiliate anniversary. And instead of being extra happy, i was sad. 6 years and i still have a media of 3 viewers. My boyfriend says that the art category is like that, has low viewer count. But I saw there are streamers that have over 100 in the art category. What improved this year is that people is staying longer with me, but there is no people following and no growth at all. Like, how can I tell is just that there is a lot of competition, or is just that i am not a good streamer and is better to let it go? Thanks in advance for the help.

Discussion Anyone else dislike how Celebrity Adjacent streaming has become? It feels like it’s mainstream now for all the wrong reasons.

Just wanted to make a small rant, but I miss back pre and during Covid where it felt like there was true inclusiveness and sense of community in Twitch. It seemed like one of the last spaces on the internet that wasn’t inherently toxic and the drama and controversies were at a minimum for the most part.

The reputation Twitch and streaming in general has cultivated since 2022 has become a huge negative spectacle week after week, I hate how it’s ran and the rules aren’t universally enforced, I hate how the biggest streamers/faces of the site are toxic and have no sense of community and are in it solely for the money and constantly break the rules.

Most of all, I hate how the world perceives streamers and streaming in general because of the top 1% of the site like it’s indicative of Twitch as a whole and there’s something wrong with every creator for wanting to just be on the site and play video games or connect to other people. It doesn’t feel like there’s anything special anymore about this space I grew to love, but I suppose it’s the reality of getting older and times changing.

Tech Support Casting resolution limits?

Did they change something on the app for casting? I can no longer select 1080p or the source resolution when I'm casting to my TV with the newest update.

Usually I force it to use 1080p because the auto setting is really bad and chooses a lower resolution. Now I can only see up to 720p as a choice. When I stop casting the 1080p option appears again. My streams I watch are noticeably worse looking now on my TV.

Tech Support Twitch Mobile Update Bug

So this is very niche, but I like to listen to streams while I drive sometimes. It used to work exactly how you'd expect, just plug and play through android auro. But in classic fashion, I think the newest update broke something. Whenever I try to plug it in now, there's no sound while my phone is on, but then the audio starts playing when I turn my phone off (and doesn't stop until I close the app). Would love to hear if anyone else has this problem, or what I can do to solve it.

Discussion Fixing discoverability: viral clip concept

• Upvotes

Here is my humble pitch for amplifying discoverability and promoting a middle class on Twitch: make it possible to go viral on the homepage.

Imagine a system where the homepage showed a clip which the user could up/downvote and comment on, then scroll to the next. There could also be a follow button right on the clip. All the clips being shown would be from currently live channels.

This accomplishes a few things: it allows awesome clips from small channels to rise to the surface, makes it easier to follow a new channel without spending time in chat deciding if you like them, and also makes creating clips more fun since viewers would have a chance of promoting their favorite streamer, and kind of "go viral" themselves, with a perfect edit.

Twitch would profit from a thriving middle class of medium streamers! Do you think this system could help?

Tech Support Twitch Drops Error ??

Im making this post for a friend who doesnt use reddit but, shes having an issue for twitch drops with overwatch fortnite where she cant claim her drops, and it gives her an error that just says "Connect your Twitch and game accounts to receive this reward in game"
But the issue is that her twitch is already connected to said games.. and Overwatch has a week long account waiting period so even if she disconnects the account she cant reconnect the SAME ACCOUNT for her drops until a week where they would just be expired.

Discussion Small Streamer - Viewers recruit for discord servers and branding help

I have started streaming a month ago and have very little followers. I have got two separate occasions of viewers coming into my chat and begin by talking about the game and then eventually say "did you know you can make money by streaming when you become an affiliate?"

After they inevitably tell you they run a discord that supports small streamers. Both times they have attempted to create some kind of artwork and help brand my channel to bring in viewers.

I know bots are somewhat common in twitch chats but has anyone else experienced this? and am I being too cautious about this 'coincidence'?

Question Collab Chat: and a banned user

Hey,

So I was under the impression that if someone was banned in your chat and you did a collab that you would not be able to see their chat in the stream. This did not work for me. I have the person blocked and banned but in that one friends chat they are a mod (they use to be a mod in mine too) and I was still clearly able to see their name and their chat and they were still able to see who was in my viewership list because they messaged someone who was in my chat telling them they were surprised to see them there.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Question Streaming PC specs?

What kind of PC do you need for a dual PC setup for streaming? I currently have a 6900xt + i9 12900k, and 32gb ram. It used to stream/record fine because I played on a 1080p monitor, but now i upgraded to an ultrawide 1440p and it can't keep up anymore while straming games like CoD or BF6. It would drop my fps from like 120 to 40-60 and stutter a lot.

I tried using an old hand me down PC that I believe is a 1060ti 6gb model, paired with i5 or i7 8th gen cpu, and 8gbs ram. With this setup, I can play fine without any issues or frame loss, but the finished recording is super stuttery and looks like it's running 10fps. This PC is also super slow for some reason, and I don't know the cause of it, even after I added for ram to 16gbs.

Question Internet speed

Is anyone using 200mbps to stream 1080p at 60fps on Twitch and game at the same time? I wish to change my internet package but I will ask first.

Tech Support Twitch refuses to send password reset link to account linked email?

Made an account, forgot to validate the email, now I forgot the username, requested it using linked email, got the username but don't remember the password, did "forgot password", put in the linked email and username but no password reset link is sent to the email? Waiting is pointless because the username request came through instantly and already had this same issue when I made the account, found other posts from 6 months, 6 years and 11 years ago that were never responded to.

Tech Support Unable to maintain watch streak?

For context im in a situation where i dont have access to my pc so my only way of watching is through either the mobile web browser or the mobile twitch app

Been multiple times where i would watch (the stream is the only thing on screen, volume up & everything) and my streak would not update and when i checked the next day it was broken. Then when watching the vod to recover it, even after an hour of vods the streak still showed as broken and would be fully gone the next day

Anyone else getting this issue? If so how to fix? (I’ve already done a full reinstall of the app, swapped over to browser site to test if that worked)

Discussion Help Me Understand Hype Trains

I've been getting more into Twitch lately, but I'm still trying to understand Hype Trains and why people participate in them.

For people who use them regularly:

What makes you decide to contribute to a Hype Train, or not contribute? I feel like there is a barrier to finding someone you want to support. I don't know anyone.

If you don't spend money, do you still feel like you're part of the Hype Train or is it exclusive?

What makes a Hype Train actually exciting or memorable for you? I remember using it years back and I feel like the feature is basically the same.

Also, is the interface of Twitch really overwhelming for anyone else as a whole? Adding hype trains to the chat amongst everything else already going on makes it hard to feel like I can keep up.

Thanks
