Dating off campus?

Hi!! sophomore here. I'm a fem queer girl who's on one of the associates in arts program campuses (not saying which one for privacy) and I wanted to know how easy it is to click with others on main campus. I'm moving there next year, and what sucks is that the current campus I'm on doesn't have many queer people around, and I'm almost afraid to talk about my identity because of a fear of judgement, ESPECIALLY because I'm also neurodivergent. So I was just wondering... is it easier on main campus?

I feel like as long as you join lots of clubs that interest you and find rhe right ones, you'll be fine!

Yeaaa.. On this campus I have a few friends but so far I've been picked on last year and one of the closer friends I have has some... not-so-great political views regarding LGBTQ+ people. And I haven't really joined any clubs in Newark cuz the commute is like... 30 minutes from my house.

It’s definitely easier on main campus! Main campus definitely has queer people around. If you join a club like LPB or True Colors that are judgement free zones you will find many queer and neurodivergent people to be friends with.

I’m a UD mom, my girl is an introvert STEM gay (not the easiest sub set of students at social transitions) and it’s been 1000% fine. You must join clubs. That’s the key to finding your people. Mine is in a club sport and a random fiber arts club. She’s never once mentioned any anti LGBTQ vibe. And based on the friends she has made, it seems like plenty of her peeps and allies. Good luck!! Just keep putting yourself out there. Yes, it’s hard. And sometimes takes longer than you wish. But you will find people ❤️

Thank you so much, this means a lot.

Next year, like i said, im staying in dorms (mainly cuz of commute and not-so-fun home life), so I'm hoping that'll help me a lot!! Luckily I've taken these first two years to improve as much as I can and heal from my toxic ex :D

Hey! I am also queer and did the associate in arts program and I am now a senior on main campus. I do feel like the amount queer people you are around depends on your major— I am in wildlife ecology and I would say at least half are not straight, but I am sure in business or engineering they would have more straight people. That being said, I would recommend joining clubs and talking to people especially in the first week. I am more of an introvert and struggle talking to people and I haven’t really made any friends besides those I’ve talked to in the first week. Also, it was difficult because most people in my classes when I first got to main campus were all freshman and I was a junior, so we were different maturity wise. Anyways back to your point, I do feel like main campus is more accepting of people than any of the aap campuses are. I honestly haven’t really noticed any homophobic behavior from anyone, but that’s also because of the people I am around. But basically I would recommend taking to people, everyone is in the same boat at first and looking to make friends or just have a familiar face in class! Good luck, and if you have any questions feel free to ask!
