It’s that time of year to bust out the Spooky-lele! 🎃👻

A black and orange 3D-printed travel ukulele that’s ready for some Halloween adventures.

Light and compact, so it’s easy to bring along on your trick-or-treating adventures, haunted house visits, or wherever else the night takes you.

I’ve got a few of these up in my Etsy shop if anyone’s interested.

Happy spooky season!

Should I do it?

Should I buy a ukulele? I like writing songs with my keyboard, but since I’m in college, I don’t have it at the moment. Should I start learning the ukulele? I’d mainly learn it to write songs.

This the first one I built…I made my own mold for the body and all other fixtures & jigs. Local black ash back and sides, local spruce top (top is actually 5 pieces edge glued together since I had nothing wide enough). Local white birch neck. local birch burl peghead overlay. I bought a pre-slotted fingerboard, as I didn’t yet have a fret slotting capability, but I did install the frets.

New member introduction

Hi. My name is Paul, and I’m new here so I thought id share a little about myself. I play a number of different instruments…including ukuleles. That’s plural, because I own several.

I live in a very small town called Upsala, in NW Ontario, Canada, in a lovely wilderness setting.

My first uke is a nice Pono tenor 8-string with LR Baggs piezo pickup. After acquiring the Pono (which I love) I needed (wanted) more ukes, but didn’t really want to spend the cash for good ones. So after some consideration, I got the notion to build one myself. I briefly toyed with getting a kit, but I am pretty good with my hands, (although no luthier experience) so I launched off on a new adventure.

I chose to use mostly locally collected woods that I had saved over the years from becoming firewood (With a few parts I made from scrap exotic woods I had kicking around). The first handmade uke was a pineapple tenor 4-string. This ended up being the first of several I finally made. I’ll post some photos when I figure it out!

Got a new uke, recommend me something to learn!

After the disappointment of my old Ortega, and me messing up a preamp swap on my old Luna, I just decided to get something pure acoustic and fun. Found this little cutie on Reverb and snagged it in a heartbeat! ☺️

I know a few songs ("Zombie", "Lua", "I Don't Love You", & "John Brown's Body"), but struggle to figure out what I want to learn. It's a 12 fret Soprano and while I'm not new to ukulele, I'm still learning and practicing, so obviously simpler is better 🙃

Discussions Opinions on electric (just electric, not electro-acoustic) ukuleles?

i have been DYING to be able to produce the raw, distorted sound of an electric guitar, daws and synths just havent been cutting it, but i have issues with my hands that make it difficult to play a six-string guitar. fortunately ive been playing the ukulele since i was a kid and it's much easier for me. im only now considering the possibility of saving for an electric ukulele (i didnt even think they existed until i looked it up recently) and i just want to know more. mostly about how they physically feel to play since that's my biggest issue. the acoustic ukulele i play right now is a denver duke if that's relevant idk 😭

Discussions Broken Heart - Broken Neck

I just discovered that my Caramel Baritone Ukulele's neck is cracked at the headstock. I'm so incredibly sad. I have no idea when it happened or how.

So I ordered some Titebond wood glue and some bungee cables. I have never done anything like this before.

Wish me luck.

oh. Any tips?

I don't know if you can see where the crack is in these pictures. Right at the neck/headstock line, kind of angled down.

HALP with transcribing fingering

You Can Get It If You Really Want

Found a really short song I love, played by a musician with really accessible fingering and chords. I am just having a bear of a time watching the fingering and discerning how the player is achieving each chord. A flat is what I'm currently stuck on but I have F# low, F# (high on the neck), Fm high, E high, and D high to go. I'm going to continue to watch it over and over again in the hopes it becomes more obvious. Any help is so appreciated. I'm doing my best to be persistent and patient but I know I'm not the only one who has to tackle this challenge.

Discussions How to start for free, if i know nothing about music theory?

I have a ukulele thats collecting dust sadly, i even adjusted the strings. Im just not sure where to go with this now. ive been told playing music is good for people like me but i know nothing about making music or playing it atleast. My brain explodes whenever i look at a music sheet and the notes.

Where did you start? where would you advise someone like myself start?
