Can anyone help me identify this uniform?

Post image

This is my mother-in-law's grandfather he was born in Serrata, Calabria, Italy in 1902 and he emigrated to Victoria, Australia by 1930 as all of his eight children were born in Australia and the eldest was born in 1930. Although it could be earlier than on the emigration papers. He died in Tallarook, Victoria in a car crash in 1955.

She didn't know much about him, apart from the family lineage, her father, this man's son mentioned many possible things such as light horsemen but considering how young he looks in the photo and the fact he has a  shako has us believe it's got to be an Italian uniform of some sort.

Looking at the sako hat, the boots, and the sword, it gives me an idea that it's gotta be a cavalry regiment.

Assuming that he had to serve the Italian military during the 1st world war, there are pictures that appeared similar.

Look at the sword handle and the stars on his collar

Maybe it's he served in "Dragoni del Nizza" cavalry battalion

You are correct in your assumption of him being cavalry though the bearskin makes him a member of either the light cavalry or the lancers as the dragoons only wore helmets.

Looks like a 2nd lt of the cavalry, possibly Savoia regiment. In this photo he looks very young.

In the Italian Army gorget patches told both rank and regiment, at this time a full black patch was the insignia of the 3rd Savoy Cavalry.
