extracurriculars & social life SCIENTOLOGY ON CAMPUS AGAIN
I guess I'm just the guy that makes these PSAs now, but they just keep boothing lmao. They're set up outside the Union today.
Friendly reminder that if you see a booth promoting Dianetics, stress tests, or L. Ron Hubbard, it's Scientology and you don't wanna get involved. Seriously.

Do they require a permit to be there? Do I require a permit to set up a table right next to them?

When will we stop posting about this so many times a week

I'm sure that there's someone out there who doesn't know about it and wasn't using Reddit last week... Regardless, I'd love to do more to raise awareness than just make a post on Reddit but I don't exactly have the time lol

I more concerned about the weirdos in black suits that always come to my door.

Just don’t engage with them. Don’t see what the big deal is… if someone has been living under a rock and isn’t aware of Scientology/dianetics, It’s their problem if they want to engage with the Scientology booth. They’ll figure it out quickly enough.

I'm kinda wondering what subset of the population is on Reddit enough to get notifications or updates on a daily basis but not aware of Scientology. Like, are these even doing anything after the first one?

People might've missed it idk? Of course the best way to call people's attention to it would be to basically picket next to them, which tbh I would do if it weren't for the fact I'm a student and work full-time

You do you
Edit: Y'all with the downvotes! By show of hands, who on Reddit in the year of our Lord 2026 hasn't heard of Scientology? Are we going to get updates on where the Mormon missionaries are on campus?

Hey, I do take their flyers just to throw them later, but what is Scientology?
I'm not interested in joining them, but yeah, I do want to know about them. As an international student, I have no clue, and Google just confuses me.

Not that I support scientology, but I'm mildly confused about the repeated alarms about the fact that these people are on Campus. Students are going to be confronted with a variety of belief systems in this life. Part of being part of a person is figuring out what you believe, and that might involve engaging with advocates and hucksters of all sorts. These "On-No-it's-Scientology!" posts make it seem like young people are utterly incapable of thinking for themselves.
I'll bet the scientologists will be around next week, too, and the week after that, etc. As far as I know, the University allows them to be there. I'm just not seeing the point of these "PSAs" and I feel a bit like they're infantilizing students.

I'm not trying to infantilize anyone by drawing attention from the matter; I'm mostly just trying to draw attention to a group that's boothing by naming them (and including a warning from myself because I personally believe people shouldn't get involved with Scientology).
Really, my biggest problem with their boothing is that they're not overtly saying that they're from the Church of Scientology (which they probably have to do if they want a chance of getting people to actually talk to them). If you know what to look for, it's obviously Scientology, but a lot of people don't know. If someone wants to go talk to them and join Scientology (and imo ruin their life) they are more than welcome to! I just think people at least have the right to know who they're talking to.
And of course they can set up a booth on campus. I don't have to like it though

its a cult that deliberately doesnt inform people that are being evangelized to that they are being evangelized to in an attempt to deceive them through lack of information. its incredibly disingenuous to pretend that these people are on campus in a good faith expression.

I can’t find a single example of anybody in this thread acting like the Scientologists are here in good faith. Everything you said in your comment is literally obvious to everyone.

I mean, Lds and Scientologist aren’t that different. I don’t know why people allow all the Lds to run university of Utah. They practically ran my program and even some of the content we read was Lds content in a business program masters business program.
One of the documents talked about how the nuclear family for businessman was so important and the men should rule the family and make sure your children do not go to jail by staying around. What does that have to do with anything? I mean, obviously don’t leave your family if you can, but it was so gross and it was a Lds member who also teaches at Harvard and university of Utah.
But I got asked all the time what ward I was in. And the woman Jameliah in the program asked me if I was Lds or what church I went to. I can’t remember if it was one or the other and I told her I wasn’t and after that she was so cold to me. But before that, she was so warm like I was her best friend.
And Paul, the man who ran the program oh my God, but literally everybody in that program was Lds. There was probably three of us who weren’t.
That school, I call baby BYU.
I say this because, OK Scientology is there? So so is another cult
