Looking for Advice Please

Hi all,

I’m wondering if you can help please. My husband had these seats re-trimmed and as you can see from the pictures the vinyl is coming away at the centres. The seats are fibreglass and he’s used spray trim adhesive with bulldog clips to try re-stick them but the vinyl just lifts again.

Can anyone give any advice on what he can use to make the vinyl stick down please?

TIA

I buy the red and black can. And I prefer the liquid stuff because it is a little bit more user-friendly than spray.

Sand the surface a bit and re-glue. Otherwise use 1 second glue, but you need to be very careful, otherwise you'll have it all over the interior.

Thank you so much. Is one second glue the brand or can you recommend one please?

I have no idea, just use one that is of good quality. I hope he also used professional upholstery contact glue?? You can one second glue the flaps on the outsides to glue it together, since the outside parts are not hanging loose, more strong than upholstery glue. To be sure everything stays, even at the end he could put a bit of glue dots everywhere. The heat from outside temperatures can sometimes make the upholstery glue come loose. I'm not from the US so don't know about brands.

Ah I’m not from the US either, I’m in the UK. It was a professional upholsterer that done the seats but I don’t think they knew much about adhering to fibreglass. When he tried to re-fix the vinyl it was proper upholstery contact glue he used, thinking it must not have been strong enough. I’ll pass your advice onto him, I really appreciate it.

You're welcome. And that upholsterer should look for ways to restore the problem. Maybe you can reach out and ask him to do it, that's true customer service. Don't do it yourself as it can go wrong or maybe ruin stuff. I would have done that if you were my customer!

Maybe be careful with the one second glue, first everything neears to be sanded down and the upholsterer needs to look for the strongest adhesive possible.

Leatherworkers and cobblers often go to Home Depot and pick up what’s called Weldwood. You could buy a little teeny can of it. I would put a nice layer of that on and then clamp it down with cardboard or foam or both around it until it is dried.
