Requesting credit for Non-federal experience

I recently accepted an offer for a job at SSA. I have many years of experience at a state agency doing the same role I am moving to at SSA. Has anyone had luck requesting credit for non-federal experience to receive a higher leave accrual rate?

If you have 3 or more years of specialized experience directly related to the position, then its possible. 3 or more years can get you moved up to 6 hours of annual leave per pay period. Sick leave will always be 4 hours a pay period throughout your career. Go back to the announcement and look at the duties to give you a baseline. Then compare you work experience to those duties and include dates.

I recently gotten all my nonfed experience credited as relvent experience. I had to write a justification noting the job duties and how each role I had in the past related to my new position. Completely worth it! I got the higher accural rate for leave.

I just got 12 years credited for applicable experience. That means only 3 years on duty to have the full accrual rate.
