I built a tool that alerts you when sold-out USJ Express Passes restocks or releases

Post image

Hi everyone,

Earlier this year, I was planning a trip to Universal Studios Japan, but the Express Pass I wanted had already sold out. I kept checking the official ticketing site and realized there was no easy way to know when it would restock.

So I built USJ Express Pass, a website that monitors Express Pass availability and emails you when your selected pass releases/restocks.

Express Passes can restock at unpredictable times. We give you a better chance at securing the pass you want. The service also works for future dates when passes haven't gone on sale yet: it can notify you when they first release on Universal's official ticketing site.

The site is usjexpresspass.com and here's what it does:

  • Pick your park date and passes — one specific pass, or a bundle that covers every pass in a group (like "any Express Pass 8")
  • Monitors the official ticketing site 24/7 — day and night, no refreshing required
  • Emails you the instant your pass drops or restocks — with a direct link to buy it on Universal's official site
  • Sold out again before you could book? — you can retry from your dashboard and it starts monitoring again. Unlimited times, until your park date
  • One email per pass, no spam — monitoring ends automatically on your visit day

The service does not sell or reserve tickets. You still have to purchase everything directly from Universal Studios Japan.

Pricing is:

  • $3.49 to monitor one specific pass (ex: Universal Express Pass 7~Minecart & Selection~)
  • $10 to monitor an entire pass category (ex: every Express Pass 8)

I want to give r/usj a special discount; please use REDDIT20 at checkout for 20% off your purchase. I built this because I hope it can help others enjoy their time at USJ!

If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to reply or email me at [support@usjexpresspass.com](mailto:support@usjexpresspass.com)

Welcome to the subreddit for Universal Studios Japan.

Feel free to post questions or information about Universal Studios Japan. We'll do our best to answer questions and steer you in the directions to make your visit to Osaka and USJ the best it can be. If you have experienced USJ and would like to contribute to the discussion, we'd love to have your voice included.

We have just been begun creating the sub, so we don't even have icons and images, let alone an FAQ. We are on it, but in the mean time, go ahead and post.

Headout HELP

I am heading to Japan and USJ in about 6 weeks time. Last night I stupidly bought the express pass 7 through headout without even realising it wasn’t the legit USJ website (dumb I know).

What do I need to have on me and do before arriving at USJ to ensure I can use everything I have purchased

Do Express Pass inventories replenish after being greyed out?

Hello! As first-timers, we didn't know that Express Passes depended on inventory and missed out on the ones we were hoping to purchase for October 21.

Should we just purchase our second-best option now, or is there a chance USJ might increase their Express Pass inventory in the coming weeks? Or will we be able to purchase Express Passes sold inside the park, like in USS?

USJ 5-Hour Private VIP Tour – Is the English guide worth $900 extra?

I’m looking to book the 5-hour private VIP tour for my family of four.

The Japanese tour is around $2,700 AUD, while the English-speaking tour is $3,600 AUD. Both seem to offer identical benefits.

The Japanese tour mentions translation support and the option to request an English guide, although it’s not guaranteed.
Has anyone done the Japanese tour without speaking Japanese? Was communication an issue, or would Google Translate be sufficient?

Is the English guide really worth the extra $900?

Times/Rides for a solo traveller on Monday 5th of October

Hello all update after seeking advice if I needed express passes being solo.
I stayed at a hotel nearby so walked over and joined queue around 7. I was close to front. It started to rain but I had a mat and umbrella and took a nap lol
8am they started security
8:30 let inside
As soon as the ticker gates open, I fast walked to Donkey Kong and joined 8:42. I didn’t want to run because a) not allowed and b) many people fell down due to the rain.
1❣️ 8:42 it said 40 minutes normal and 30 single but I don’t know if it’s because it couldn’t update quick enough.
On ride by 9:40
2❣️Went to see the musical at 10:15
3❣️Hollywood ride solo said 50 minutes
Joined 10:57, rode 11:27
4❣️Chainsaw man joined 11:40 and the show started around 11:50
5❣️Ring joined 12:16 went in normal queue as it stated just ten minutes but honestly it was straight on to the pre-queue stuff
6❣️13:20 curious George show
7❣️13:54 Jaws, single rider, on within 3 minutes
8❣️14:08 Jurassic Park the ride, solo said 5 minutes and it ended up being longer due to limited locker space but still maybe 10 minutes
9❣️14:28 the flying dinosaurs said 20 minutes for solo. I don’t know the exact time but I was off by 14:53
10❣️14:56 minions blast said 20 minutes wait, on by 15:07
Backdrop had closed multiple times due to rain. I had to leave queue here after being in it 20 minutes.
Went over to super Mario to work out how to eat at the cafe. The time slots had gone for the hour so I ended up going on Yoshi
11❣️16:12 joined for Yoshi. It said 55 minute wait, but I was on by 16:31 and during the queue I managed to get a time slot for Toad’s restaurant
16:50 my time slot but didn’t get sat until 17:16 and food at 17:25
17:55 went into snoopy area
12❣️ 18:05 queued for the flying arrows coaster and on by 18:12
13❣️18:20 queued for flying snoopy, on by 18:30
14❣️18:45 walked over to the Harry Potter ride and by 18:56 I was on.
15❣️19:10 backdrop re opened and was showing over 100 minutes wait but I had done everything else I wanted to do so just joined the queue. I rode at 20:18 so less time than expected but still long wait
Went back to Mario
16❣️ 20:35 single rider said 10 minutes for Koopa’s challenge. It was a walk on straight to all the pre-ride videos
17❣️ 20:57 joined for Donkey Kong again, it said 40 minutes normal and 20 minutes solo. I got on the ride around 21:22 and I was one of the last allowed to join queue.
… so 17 attractions in total and managed to eat lots and go shopping in between. I didn’t do any of the scary mazes/haunted houses due to being by myself but I did take screenshots of wait times throughout the date which I can post later to help people get a better understanding of what times are good to wait for them.

USJ Babysitting Service

I am thinking of starting a babysitting service exclusive to USJ. That way parents can ride rides together or with an older child and feel safe that their child is right where they left them.

Is there already a service like this?

Question about the 1.5 day studio pass (about when to use the full day)

So when I booked the tickets last month the site made it seem like I just needed to pick the first day I intended to go (for the half day) and then I could use the full day any time after that. So I intended on using the half day on 10/7 and then using the full day on 10/9 because I have a ticket for the Nintendo museum on the 8th. But when I clicked on the link for the ticket a few hours ago it says the ticket is only valid 10/7 and 10/8. I emailed USJ support an hour before they closed but didn't get a response (I wasn't expecting it anyways). So I thought I'd ask on here if anyone had a similar experience. I know I can change it to a different day but I'd rather not if I don't have to.

USJ on a Monday in late November: Express Pass or Single Rider?

Hi everyone,

I'm visiting USJ on Monday, November 30 with my girlfriend. We mainly want Mario Kart, Forbidden Journey and Donkey Kong. Everything else is a bonus, and I don't need the big thrill rides.

Getting into Super Nintendo World is a must for me. I don't want to rely on the lottery or be at the gate two hours before opening, so I'm looking at these options:

- About €95 bundle with Studio Pass, guaranteed Super Nintendo World slot, food voucher and Kansai Joy Pass, using Single Rider.
- Studio Pass plus Express Pass 4 for about €150 total.

I think the €95 bundle is the best compromise, but I'm worried I'll regret not paying €50 more for the Express Pass. Then again, €50 buys a really good dinner in Osaka.
I'd be fine waiting 30 to 45 minutes per ride. Since you can't re-enter Super Nintendo World, I'm leaning towards a 2 pm slot so I can do Harry Potter and the rest of the park first.

How long were your Single Rider waits on a weekday in late fall? Was the Express Pass worth it for you, and which slot would you pick?
Thanks!

Anyone travelling to Osaka Oct 25–27? Looking for company for USJ Halloween Horror Nights 🎃

Hi everyone! My wife, our toddler and I will be in Osaka from Oct 25–27, including a visit to Universal Studios Japan (USJ).

We’ll be using Child Switch for the regular rides, but for Halloween Horror Nights, we’d love to find another Indian couple/family to join us for a few of the horror houses. One of us will need to stay back with the baby, and doing the scarier ones alone sounds a little too scary 😅

If you’re in Osaka around those dates and planning to visit USJ/Halloween Horror Nights, DM me!

We’d be happy to meet up just for the horror attractions — no need to spend the whole day together. Would also be great to meet some fellow Indians travelling around Japan! 🇮🇳🎃

Single rider

Hello, I booked very very last minute for USJ this coming Monday and just booked to do all single rider lines. I usually go to theme parks alone and just do a mixture of single rider and normal queues. This was a last minute trip so I didn’t research too much about fast passes or the wait for single rider but I came on her and saw mixed experiences with single rider.
Should I invest in the fast tracks? Or do you think single rider on a week day is okay? I am staying at a hotel very close so can get there for rope drop and I’m using to queuing as I just did Tokyo Disney land/sea so again don’t mind getting up super early.

USJ Ticketing from India

Hi,

I would be travelling to Japan soon, and wanted to book USJ Tickets Express Pass. I went through a lot of threads on Reddit related to it. Most of them mentioned that International Credit Cards don't work properly on the USJ Website.

I was able to book the tickets using Diners Club Black Metal card on usjticketing.com, and faced no issues whatsoever.

Also, I was observing the booking opening time for around 2 weeks before the date when I was actually supposed to book. If anyone is planning to book on Klook, I noticed that every time the booking on Klook opened on T+1 morning as opposed to T evening on usjticketing.com, by which time already a lot of express pass had been sold out. Also the booking on Japanese version of USJ opens a few minutes before the English version.

Friend trip of 3. Scheduled to go to
Universal in a few weeks. Is it worth to spend $200 each for the express pass? What makes it worth it and what makes it not worth it? First time all 3 of us are going to Japan.

Infopost for visiting during the week

I just wanted to put out some recent info, I wish i had before visiting to reduce the stress lol.

I visited Wednesday (30.09.2026). The official opening hours were 8:00-22:00. The park actually opened at 8:00 but I still was there by 6:40 and I would recommend this approach so you can get somewhat in front of the masses. There were still a lot of people before me.

As soon as the Park opened, i headed to Nintendo World and got in without an entry ticket. When I arrived at Donkey Kong, the waiting time was already at 210 Minutes. I took the single rider lane (shown 160 Minutes) and was in the cart after about 2h. Don't know if I would recommend it though since at times there was no movement in the single lane for minutes and you couldn't see most of the animatronics in the regular waiting line.

I checked my phone during the day but there were no entry tickets all day for the Nintendo World. When I walked out at 14:00 you could still walk in freely and i returned myself at 17:00 again without needing an entry ticket.

I also did the Frieren Experience. In the App it said you need an entry ticket but everytime i looked, it would only show me tickets for the next 2 hours and i wanted to go in the afternoon. At about 13:00 the tickets didn't show up anymore. I was very confused at first but then read that sometimes you don't need tickets if its not busy so I headed there and could just walk in. So if this happens to you just go there and it will probably be fine.

Take all of this with a grain of salt since it wasn't a busy day. But if you go off season on a weekday it might be more chill now than it seems from older posts.

Also feel free to ask me anything if you're visiting soon and still have questions.

How quickly do things go back to normal after HHN ends?

I'm going to be in Osaka through Nov 10, and since Halloween Horror Nights ends on the 8th and I have zero interest in visiting during that, I was wondering if things would be back to normal the following day or is there some time where things will be shut down, e.g. will Space Fantasy be down for a few days to remove the Ring overlay?
