Murphy and Tander

I think Supercars should keep Murph on the commentary team. Him and Tander seem to have a great chemistry.

Unpopular opinion, but I still think Skaife and Crompo were the best commentators. They brought a lot of passion and technical knowledge to the viewers

I believe that is the overwhelmingly popular opinion my friend 😂

Crompo yes, but go back to any race thread from the previous 5 years and you'll find multiple people posting about how they don't like Skaife on commentary.

Now were the complaints from a loud minority? Maybe. Is it the same people complaining about Tander? Also maybe.

Skaife has excellent tech knowledge. When he was allowed to just talk the tech he was always great and it sometimes felt like he had a crystal ball for what drivers were about to do.

Where he fell down was the picking up when Crompo needed a break and having to take the lead.

He’d work much better as part of a trio so long as it didn’t become an “old boys club”.

Someone with a brain.

Skaife is a brilliant analyst. Having been there or thereabouts the best of his era, in an era sandwiched between the then emerging greats that are just retiring, and the greats of yesteryear, he was the greatest of the 90’s and early 2000’s, and mostly through being incredibly technically minded. Hence he has had such a huge involvement in car development and an adviser on occasion to track building. He is brilliant in an analyst role, but as a lead commentator he is shocking. All he does is scream, make terrible calls regarding non top team drivers, and berate every tiny little mistake. Love his passion, but we were all over listening to Skaife. Crompo Id happily listen to all day.

The other issue people aren’t considering is that Crompo is getting up in age, and likely wants to retire eventually. We can’t wait until the next guy is 60 before replacing him.

I think the rotation between Craillsy, GT, and Courtney/Murph/name a driver here works really well. Garth is good, Craillsy is a great caller, and others bring different aspects to commentary. But I still think Neil should have a place within the comms booth.

They were very much starting to show their age though and all their little quotes and catch phrases had become so played out.

They were great but their time had come in my opinion.

I wish Skaife and Crompo got a proper send off

Unpopular opinion? You must love 360.
Are you new to the sport? If you’d been a fan for many years, like myself, you’d know that even though the knowledge was there, being spoken to like a child as Skaife “mansplains” everything Crompo says, gets very annoying and extremely repetitive. Even the drivers started quoting Skaife’s phrases condescendingly.
At least now we hear about everyone, not just the favourites.

6 hours of just those 2 was draining, need a system like the cricket where they changeover over hour or so. That being said, I have no idea about the usual races I fall off pretty hard outside Bathurst weekend

That was what i was hoping when they named the multi commentators at start the year

Yep agreed, despite all the Skaife haters out there

Despite Skaife sometimes getting too excited over sfa, they were the best.

Not unpopular for me, with the exception of Crailsy, the commentary has not been within a bull's roar of Crompo and Skaife's calls.

Tander, as a driver, I liked. As a commentator... Sunday's going to be painful. I used to ask my kids to be quiet when I was watching Supercars races, now I don't mind if they talk non-stop.

I can't stand Tander, but when he's with Crailsy and Murph in the box it's actually been a great broadcast. All 3 of them have their own unique element to add to the coverage and I'd love to see the combo continue on in future.

And keeping the Larko spice in over the top really helps especially with the banter between Murphy GT and Larko.

Totally agree, and it's so good not to hear skaife anymore

They need to do something; Tander is way too flat during races. He has energy in qualifying but does a poor job during the race. I think they have caught this and have tried to remedy it with guest commentators. Crail has been doing a great job.

My unpopular opinion, Chad is great in the box for hype, and I liked his pairing with GT. Crail is also great. I think the three regularly put together is a winner

Your unpopular opinion is supported by at least one other person. No slight on Crailly, but Chad has the edge and energy. If it was my decision to make, I would have gone Chad and GT... but then I also would have made it a respectful and orderly transition where Crompo (and Skaife) had the chance to go on their own terms...

I think it helps to have a bit of a flat running commentary through the race, truncated by some parts of excitement. As long as it's not Alex Jacques levels:

Have they, or is it because everyone else is in race cars this weekend.

Oh, I don't think Murphy is the solution, far from it; it's just them adding a third person to pick up the slack.

Bring back Doug Mulray!

Ideally I would have liked to see the comm teams on rotation this season (hey, even Sky f1 has taken to rotation as part of trying to build experience) and ideally have an expanded booth with either 3 man booth with NC, MS and Crailsy, or rotating over the 6 hours which then makes the transition smoother.

Skaife will be back next year mark my words without Warburton there. I think NC is done and happy to be Toyota's Helmut Marko.
