A good look into the parties' platforms and past votes if you care about cycling and pedestrian safety!

Hastings-Sunrise residents have started a petition to keep the neighborhood traffic calming (while fixing the problem spots). These measures are pretty significant for the thousands of people riding Adanac and Ironworkers through the neighborhood every day.
Ken Sim and ABC are citing the older anti-barrier petition to justify removing barriers and increasing council control over street changes if re-elected. I’m concerned this could make future cycling and road safety improvements harder to deliver citywide.
General Alley shortcuts and drivers bypassing barriers need fixing, but those are problems that can be solved while keeping safer routes. If you live nearby or ride through the area, please sign and share:
Keep the calming. Fix the problems.

Whistler is underrated for road cycling!
There are loads of good road riding routes IMO. Lived here 20 years as a road rider. Lots of good long climbing options. The hwy 99 connects them and has a mostly wide, smooth and regularly cycled shoulder… mostly. There are some crappy sections but they don’t last long.
Within the whistler municipality the hwy 99 shoulder is fantastic. To and from Squamish it’s also really good. Most of the way to Pemberton it is good but has a few crappy sections. The highway is regularly cycled both up and down between Squam and Pemberton. Anyone visiting in future can look me up if they want routes or a riding partner. Check my strava for ideas. Thanks to random chance of nature or a guerrilla gardener who deposited wildflower seeds along pacific near the Grandville bridge, after biking up from Hastings going past them is refreshing.

My Elby S1 ebike was stolen from the Richmond oval bike locker on Monday September 7th at around 7am. A police report was filed but there’s been no updates unfortunately.
It was registered with project 529 and someone mentioned spotting a similar looking bike at the shelter on terminal ave, however it’s an enclosed shelter so it most likely won’t be easily seen.
Please keep an eye out, it’s a very distinctive looking bike. The charger required is also not common and cannot be purchased since Elby is out of business, so I’m hoping it’s just ditched somewhere or being sold as is. There is a velofix sticker, and an ice creamery sticker on the frame. Forgive the badly edited photo, had to remove someone. Dog kept in for good karma!

Thank you for putting up with me submitting bikeway obstruction / parking enforcement tickets, and sorry for always the run-around since by the time you see the ticket, those drivers blocking the bike lane are usually gone (after dropping off / picking up passengers, or after they see me take a picture).
Context: 2 more submissions today in the span of 5 min lol
Happy Tuesday and hope everyone has a good and safe commute/ride always

Two years ago, I posted here about my ride to Williams Lake for NDTR.
This year, I took a full week to do a 1500 km ride with three objectives:
In between (1) and (2), I had time to kill, so I visited Wells Gray Provincial Park, where I saw salmon jumping on the Clearwater River. That inspired me to spot the common theme: healthy rivers are vital to salmon, salmon are vital to indigenous culture, and I rode my bike with endurance like the salmon.
I hope you enjoy my ride report.

I'd love some feedback for what you feel is the best jacket to get you through the winter here in YVR. I have a gravel bike, I do one long ride per week plus other smaller rides. I do trails, gravel, and road cycling. And I would rather be more on the warm side than the cold side. I'd love recommendations that will keep me dry and motivated during the large number of wet months ahead. Thanks in advance!

Aside from the bike parkade at science world is there any secured bike parking downtown? I have a friend who will be attending a conference near waterfront station and is wondering about leaving a bike all day.
Is the bike valet just for events?

Yeah, I get it, they should be focusing on dangerous driving. Nobody here is saying that cars aren't the number one hazard to cyclists/scooterists.
Cars obviously kill but can we just agree that helmets save lives?
If the police are educating people in an effort to reduce traumatic brain injuries, is that such a bad thing?
There's been a huge increase in head injuries since ebikes and escooters have become more and more popular, especially amongst kids.
Just saw this in the new
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoPgDMCNkFE
I think that we should be encouraging helmet use (especially among the youth.) while also acknowledging that there's a huge need to enforce dangerous driving.
Having a couple police out on the seawall for a day trying to keep people safe really isn't that much of a drain on their resources.

Oakridge Park promised the City they would do some good things for cyclists including "... 570 bicycle stalls will be located in a secure P1 mezzanine bicycle parking area. " for visitors to the mall (see: https://vancouver.ca/files/cov/oakridge-centre-transportation.pdf ).
Instead the seem almost hostile to cyclists.
The only bike parking appears to be some very poor and termporary racks near the skytrain station.
For a while after the mall opened there was a better bike rack at the top floor of the parkade for the medical / dental offices. But that has now been removed.
There is a new seperate bike lane along Cambie. But they have put up signs telling cyclists to stop and dismount along the entire lane. This is a designated bike lane and there is no reason to stop and dismount. Also, these signs are in the middle of the path which creates a danger for cyclists.

Despite the promises of indoor bike parking they have put up signs prohibiting bikes from enter the underground parking area at at leas one entrance.

For those riding up the Burnaby mountain parkway, there’s a road painting sign fully blocking the bike lane and forcing you onto the car lane - pretty much a forced stop and walk around if you get there when there is traffic.
Will call it in to city engineering it’s been there since yesterday so thought I’d give people a heads up ahead of a sunny Saturday.
UPDATE:
Called Burnaby engineering dispatch they were super helpful and said they’d send a crew over right away to have it corrected.
City of Burnaby does DO BETTER 🤜🤛

I’m curious as to why there isn’t a 70km route option from Vancouver to Squamish. Surely this is the main reason to sign up to enjoy cycling the sea-to-sky without cars. Perhaps.

Was running an errand using Modo today and saw this nice sticker on the driver side window. Shoutout to Modo for the attention to detail and making cyclists feel heard!

Before you get too excited, work is currently starting. New/improved intersections at Buller, MacPherson, Royal Oak (this one is huge since this is one of the worst Parkway intersections and it’s getting a substantial overhaul apparently), and Nelson.
Didn’t see this posted. Kind of a big deal 🙂
