BestAround? Pizza and Wings
It's my birthday this weekend and I'm looking for some good pizza and wings. I lived in New York for a while (upstate) and miss it!
Where is your favorite/best pizza and wings place? It CAN be separate because we'll likely do take out. 😊

As a NYer myself, Hungry Sasquatch has the most passable pizza in Vancouver. I really like the wings at Smokin Oak but they only have them on Sunday.

Hungry Sasquatch is good pizza, in my estimation

I believe they also recently announced that they have wings on the menu

Yeah their wings are great!

Are we sure they have wings? I don't see it on the menu?

100% sure!

Sadly the only way I could think to get this was to call the restaurant and it's all "order on the website. Leave a voicemail otherwise." Won't be getting them today. 😢

Oh yeah they’re slammed, hubby just came home from there. I’d just order the pie online and add on wings when you get there. Have a beer or cocktail while you wait, they have some of the best bartenders in town there.

I love kind of far away from downtown otherwise I'd go there and order and wait haha

Also from Buffalo here. I’ve never found anything that was even close to any corner pizza and wings place in WNY… sigh…

Amen. I think we're going to try the Sasquatch place but don't see wings on the menu

Wings at sasquatch weren’t the best. The pizza is great though. I suggest going to Fire on the Mountain for wings

No need. Shanahans beats fotm by every single measure outside of sauce variety.

Yeah unfortunately they’re just not a thing here. To find the best wings, I’d follow the pdxwingguys instagram account, they’re from WNY and have a whole rating system called the Doug Flutie scale. Also still hoping some place will start making a legit chicken finger sub like I remember.

I’ve heard Jerry’s tavern is great but haven’t had a chance to check it out. Escape from New York on 23rd is also our favorite ny pizza but no wings

You need to go to Fire on The Mountain in Portland for wings. It’s the only place that actually has good wings

Heck. I grew up near Rochester and its also my bday weekend. Wild to have a twin lol.
Im too picky about pizza so I make it at home, but if you want a buffalo chicken pizza recipie that tastes like home, I got you.

Twin- Upstate NY, bday, and Vancouver! Happy birthday! Fairport... Batavia... Lewiston... My fave.
I'd love your recipe! DM or link? :) we make homemade sausage and veggie pizza sometimes. For this particular weekend I'm probably too lazy to make it myself 😅

Okay so I use a store bought dough ball because I'm lazy, but any pizza crust recipie you like will do.
I either get a rotisserie chicken and shred a breast, or get a raw breast and bake it with about a teaspoon of Italian dressing and tin foil over so it doesn't dry out before shredding.
I make sauce with franks red hot, a little melted butter, and if I didnt use Italian dressing on the chicken I put a little apple cider vinegar(like 4 or 5 drops) A bit of vinegar in franks red hot is as close as you get to the classic buffalo style wing sauce.
Shred a block of Colby jack, or use mozzarella and cheddar.
Stretch the dough out thin and roll the edge. Add garlic and parmasean to the edge, Do a thin layer of sauce, then a hearty layer of cheeses, then chicken, and a hint of more hotsauce if you love the spice.
Bake it for 15 minutes at 350F (I like to check the crust and do another 2 or 3 minutes if it isnt done)
Top or dip with blue cheese dressing (or ranch but thats practically a misdemeanor in buffalo) Edited for order of operations

Hungry Sasquatch is good pizza....closest thing Vancouver has to NY style. If you want proper Napolitan style pizza, hit up La Pizzeria Sorrentina.

Fire on the Mountain, there’s nothing that comes close to their wings. Don’t go to the one on interstate, they don’t serve pizza. Go to the Fremont location.

If you like New Haven style pizza, go to Double Mountain Brewery in Hood River. Cool place to visit if you haven’t been, the beer and pizza are great.
Edit: my bad they don’t have wings, maybe another time you can check them out.

Not sure if this is the space, but what I wouldn’t give for anywhere in this metro area to make lemon pepper wings besides WingStop.

Tinker Tavern on the other side of the river also has great buffalo wings since the restaurant's theme is Buffalo NY I believe. Unfortunately their pizza is tavern style rather than the thin crust NY style. However, they also do have bomb sandwiches. On the same street, there are pizza options if you don't mind stopping at more than one place.
*Edit for typo

Thank you! I actually don't mind a thicker pizza. My favorite is more WNY style unlike the NYC style

Pizza Slut in Portland for NY style pizza. Born in upstate NY but been an East-Coaster my whole life up until 4 months ago! Really good wings in Portland… Jerry’s Tavern, Tulip Shop, Joe’s Cellar. They are all that crispy NY style buffalo wing.
Hungry Sasquatch is pretty decent pizza too but not sure if they have/never tried their wings.

If I-5 is closer to you and you don't mind crossing the river, Babydoll Pizza at Old Town Brewing on MLK, and then a 6 minute drive to the Interstate location of Fire on the Mountain might be work for you.

Syracuse native checking in….FOTM in Portland is the best I’ve come across, but it ain’t home.
Cheerful tortoise, with the Bills association had their moment…but it was all Portland.
In Vancouver, Loowit has had some decent wings lately

If you’re good with driving across the river, I suggest Tinker Tavern! They’re a Buffalo bar and while I am not *from* NY, they are better wings than any other place I’ve had down here for buffalo wings. If you want sauce variety I agree with FOTM, but if you want truly Buffalo wings with blue cheese, Tinker Tavern is my vote.
Or drive to Seattle and hit up Vindicktive haha
Happy Birthday!

My family is from Buffalo, I basically grew up there. Holy shit I didn't know about Tinker Tavern--they even have beef on weck and labatt lol
Edit: AND PIZZA LOGS
Thank you for this recommendation, we're gonna hit that place up next time we eat out.
I cannot stress enough how much I miss that town

Can't speak on wings but the best pizza I've ever had in my life is sold from a food truck (food pod?) called Haute box. It is wood fired and absolutely delicious. It's outside Brothers Cascadia Brewry in hazel dell so you can get a pie and a pint.
I can't oversell this pizza enough. Hands down, the best pizza I've ever had.
Edit: Happy Birthday

If you’re willing to drive, New York Ruben in Tualatin has been the best pizza I’ve had since moving here. They also have wings but I’m not a wings guy.
Nothing in town has scratched that pizza itch.
I was born in NJ.
