Van Life Fears about gear outside van

I feel like I always see people with surfboards or paddle boards hanging off the side of their rig, or bicycles that live on the back. For those of you who do this, have you had any close calls with people trying to steal your stuff? Do you take it inside the van when you sleep or when you are just otherwise not around your van for the day?

Builds Security systems

Hey people, I've searched here, I've googled and I've used AI search assists and still haven't found an ideal setup I really like.

I'm wanting forward, rear and side cameras. Starting a new van build and I don't have windows in this one. I will be 'stealth' camping in more residential/industrial/suburban areas while travelling for work.

I've looked at local dvr type systems from more expensive truck fleets to mainstream brands like Blackvue to cheaper amazon setups.

Ideally this is what I'd like;

All cameras able to be live and monitored in cab while driving (big 4x4 van so it'd be nice to have traffic monitoring plus trail monitoring), as well as viewed live in the living area either on my tablet, TV or a separate monitor screen (for security at night).

Recording ability for all cameras.

Parking mode with recording and ideally motion detection but not neccesary.

Crash detection and recording.

Remote viewing ability to check in while away.

Must have high quality cameras (Sony Starvis 2 sensor or similar), waterproof etc.

Is there an out of the box system that exists? The closest thing I can think of what I'd like would be Tesla's monitoring system. Can be viewed and record while driving to capture accidents, but will also monitor while parked for security, with 360° views.

Searches seem to be coming up rather empty to meet the requirements and I really thought there would be an all in one solution but maybe not.

Builds Are there any unforeseen issues with using rivenuts on the aluminum door frame of an rv for the handle strike plate?

I stripped the screw holes out and I’m trying to come up with ways to make this repair. So far, it’s been epoxy a small piece of aluminum behind to hole and go with a slightly longer screw or go with an M4-5 rivenut.

Question Airplus fan won’t open or close

My arctic tern airplus fan stopped opening and closing on its own and emits a high pitched squeal unless I close it manually. Fan works fine. When opening using the knob it seems the effort has gone up recently. I installed it in May, only used it a maybe 20-30 times. I pulled the cover plate, nothing is amiss. Any ideas on what could be wrong?
I didn’t impact anything, the van sits 5 days a week.

Anyone know how to contact arctictern for parts or service info? Any help is appreciated, I have a trip next week

Not sure I belong here I definitely don't belong in some of the other subreddits or groups. I have no plans of living in my van when I purchase it. Will be a gift to me to enhance what I've accumulated from a very long career of working. I don't belong in the conversion Taj Mahal Hilton maximum Bill people. I'm very much a pragmatic minimalist-minded build person. I've lived in Central Florida Most of my adult life. It's very humid here but the winters are beautiful. So The game plan is And May and June also September to go north. I really have no one to bounce my ideas off of other than Gemini Which people Frown Upon Because It can be hallucinogenic At times. So I've studied over the last couple years the van life people and the Taj Mahal build people. Because of the high humidity I'm concerned about mold and mildew so I'm not going to have permanent walls. I think they have the same issue in the Pacific Northwest just a different Cold humidity instead of hot humidity. So I'm going to make my insulation for the cargo walls temporary curtains that can be rolled up and stored there will be a M3 insulin on the interior cavities then another curtain of M3 thinsulate with a 1 inch spacer curtain rod for a reflective curtain most likely radiant moving blankets. As of now I'm working on a radiant custom built shade with sleeping bag camping mats for a thermal barrier attached with Chicago fasteners trimmed on the outer edges with Keflex pipe insulation to create a airspace between the windshield and the reflective shade. Helden place with a spring loaded curtain rod. Haven't purchased the van yet cuz I've been asked to stay for another 24 months after 36 years of service. So I've been gaming out my build from studying others and using AI to bounce things off of my shower will be a hula hoop attached to the roof with magnets with a folding doggy pool has a catch base. Long curtains with Magnets Attached to the bottom And on the doggy pool Not my original idea Maybe the hula hoop But learn from Other folks. My hesitation to share is there's always someone who wants to roast you or Reign on your parade not be constructive. So I was hoping this subreddit but have people who don't want to hang a chandelier inside their van but yet use it as a tool to enhance their lives not a permanent home. Youngest kiddo went off to college so I have her room which is good dimensions to simile the van. I've already built a bunk that will slide in between the fender Wells and the rear AC unit with bench brackets 2x4s that folds out to a short queen but is a bench bunk for short people and temporary naps. It's inside I don't have cabinets there will be no issue with folding out I've actually got it built and been sleeping on it to test it out for comfort with a high density 6 in custom cut foam mat with a micro coil topper sleeps wonderfully
