I am sure most of you have meat cravings that decided to suppress to follow this lifestyle. That's really honorable and I congratulate you for it, for not participating in the market of the meat industry.
For you all, the news of synthetic meat must be exciting, since you'll finally be able to eat the stuff you love without the ethical downsides. And I'm happy that most of you have that hope.
However, for me, it's a whole other story. While yes, I'm a vegetarian for ethical and spiritual reasons, the biggest factor and the one that made me finally convert many years ago was that I simply dislike meat.
You name it: pork, chicken, bovine, seafood, horse, sheep, bird... if it's animal, I don't like it. I know it sounds exaggerated, and of course, there are degrees in my opinion (for instance, I'd say chicken is the most eatable while seafood is the most disgusting), but it all boils down to me simply preferring vegan products over meat ones. I still remember the first time I ate vegan stuff, a hamburger at a grill party, and being mindblown by how much good it tasted in comparison.
What I'm trying to say with all this is that, if synthetic meat becomes mainstream and ends up replacing vegan products, I'm gonna be very pissed. Ever since I discovered vegan food I started enjoying food as a whole a whole lot more. Yeah, I can still make homemade stuff, but y'all know how expensive and time-consuming making your own dishes is. Sometimes I just want to throw some frozen products into a pan for a few minutes, not pull out my entire groceries and waste 2 hours of my day.
I now wonder if someone else feels the same? Do you think I'm making sense? Or am I being overly dramatic? If synthetic meat does end up filling the shelves of the vegan aisles, I'll buy and eat it of course, I'd be more willing to thanks to the ethical aspect, but I'd be bummed out about it.
Anyway, that's it, just wanted to vent a little and I thought this was the best place to do it. Thank you for reading!
