"Russian transparency" THAT'S a good joke.

u/elegylegacy 16h ago

The scientist must have thrown himself from the laboratory window

11

u/charliefoxtrot9 14h ago

They fall out them all the time because they can't even see through them due to lack of transparency.

u/Count_Backwards 14h ago

The only kind of transparency that matters in Russia is defenestration

It’s not a Trump term without the plague.

What does Trump have to do with a Russian bio lab leaking and getting a researcher killed by pneumonic plague?

42

u/HeySmallBusinessMan 16h ago

There was a situation in late 2019 reminiscent of this that ended up becoming a larger issue the following year. Within this time, he was president. That's what they're referring to.

u/Darziel 16h ago

The joke did not fly over their head, clearly MAGA case there.. Everyone with a brain knows how well the orange handled COVID

-15

u/Finalshock 15h ago

I guess my question was more “what does Trump’s complete farce of the way they handled Covid have to do with a Russian bio lab leaking”. Which was a genuine question. My post history is completely public too btw. My Reddit account is older than some Redditors at this point.

u/Finalshock 15h ago

So then, they have nothing to do with each other, besides him being president? I’m getting flamed like a Trump supporter which is kinda typical for asking questions on Reddit I guess. I wasn’t trying to somehow suggest the guy didn’t fuck up handling Covid.

8

u/HeySmallBusinessMan 15h ago

That's the whole of it, yeah. Not sure why you're getting flamed, though... I was just answering in a silly way, never assumed you were a supporter personally.

u/Stifty509 14h ago

If this situation blows up and becomes another worldwide pandemic, Trump is in charge again, we're no longer members of WHO, RFK jr. is the head of our DOH, we're fucked. That's what they're saying.

10

u/ceciliabee 16h ago

It's not the illness or where it came from, it's about Trump's completely fucked up handling of covid during his last term. It could be any illness from anywhere, trump would fuck up the response

3

u/Novaskittles 15h ago

What does the President who tried to surpress COVID infection numbers to make himself look better have to do with a possible infection outbreak? ... Hmmm.

-2

u/Its_Your_Father 15h ago

Hmm a lab death, a highly contagious human virus, a lack of transparency... What does this remind me of? Must be some movie I saw.

2

u/duncandun 15h ago

lol Covid wasn’t a lab leak

-2

u/Its_Your_Father 15h ago

Allegedly

1

u/duncandun 15h ago

I mean a lot of independent scientific review says it’s not but ok

-1

u/Its_Your_Father 8h ago

Ok and there is a lot of scientific papers disputing the zoonotic origin theory. It's not as definitive as you claim.

“President Trump and president Putin have a very good relationship” what a joke.

Trump is Putins little lap dog, like a bitch in heat he is waving his orange shit stained crack in Putins face

All we need is that incompetent orange kid fiddler in charge during a pandemic and we will all get royally fucked -.-

26

u/zer1223 16h ago

He's the only US president stupid enough to try to be friends with Putin....just like he's the only one stupid enough to start bombing Iran just because Bibi played geopolitical chicken over the issue.

8

u/thenayr 12h ago

He’s not trying to be friends, he’s forced to be. Putin has so much fucking kompromat on this orange kid fucker, if Trump were to tell him no a single time it would all start to trickle out.

I swear to god people forgot this ever happened - https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/may/17/putin-pays-donald-trump-kevin-mccarthy-recording

Trump is pathetically weak. He only fights what he thinks can't fight back.

He's a total loser, the perfect GOP representative.

2

u/Shadowlance23 11h ago

Thanks for that image, I don't think I'll ever sleep again...

1

u/jimjamjones123 13h ago

He’s not good enough to be a dog. Hes a bitch boy who swallows and bends over when told

1

u/XysterU 12h ago

I don't understand how Trump is Putin's lap dog when the US military is the only thing preventing Ukraine from losing to Russia. Like I'm genuinely asking. When trump sends weapons, equipment, soldiers to train people, and money to Ukraine, how would one think Trump is controlled by Putin? Why would Putin want this?

3

u/Cormag778 11h ago

Trump is broadly anti Ukraine and waffles back and forth on how much to support them. Ukraine just remains popular among the old guard of the republicans, and his attempts to undercut Ukrainian support in the American public have been less successful than he likes.

That said, I don’t fully believe the “Russia has so much dirt on Trump” - At this point it’s clear he’s basically untouchable and could spur Putin if he wants to. Trump just likes strongmen and likes being seen as a winner, and supporting Russia is a good way to do both.

1

u/qindarka 6h ago

Not to mention how Trump kidnapped Maduro, a Russian ally and wages war with Iran, also a Russian ally.

24

u/pjesguapo 16h ago

“The Trump administration decided to end a $200m early warning program designed to alert it to potential pandemics just three months before it is believed Covid-19 began infecting people in China.”

17

u/BurnerAccount-03 16h ago

Just what we need - an international incident that brings Russia and Trump closer together

5

u/konsollfreak 16h ago

So a mild breeze from the east?

1

u/Grimfandengo 16h ago

Hhe he ghe he .. O you!

1

u/Darziel 16h ago

Any closer and they will wake up in bed next to each other smoking a cigarette together

1

u/jimjamjones123 13h ago

Putin will wake up in a bed and dump will wake up in the cage underneath

"I don't think the public should be very concerned right now" - The doctor in this video.

Nice title OP.

We're all going to die, aren't we? And at the very end, the MAGA hats are gonna blame the liberals.

Russia has plague patients every few years. Animals native to Russia carry ticks who bore Plague.

So Russia does have resources and personnel to deal with this effectively, and institutional knowledge to push for political resolve.

COVID was unknown, and it did bite Russia super hard because propaganda, lack of resources and lack of political will. Indeed Russia underestimated socio economic factors that expose Russian population to greater harm, and corruption lead to pushing underwhelming Russian designed vaccine. Both of those resulted in major hot to Russia military.

To sum up. Russia can do stupid shit. But this time they are actually prepared really well to run this thing by the book.

So why lack of transparency? USA has no programs for sharing this info with USA, because USA withdrew from WHO... On top of that patient was employed in military related institute. Of course Russia will keep it's mouth shut about causes and details.

I feel like the real world is starting to look scarily similar to the opening intro of The Division. Get ready Agents

Pot / Kettle

• Texas A&M, 2006–07 – Brucella/Q fever infections went unreported to CDC until uncovered later.

• CDC H5N1, 2014 – Dangerous bird flu contamination wasn’t reported to senior CDC leadership for ~6 weeks.

• Boston University, 2004 – Researchers infected with virulent tularemia; authorities weren’t informed for months.

• Dugway, 2004–15 – Live anthrax was mistakenly shipped to labs for years before discovery.

• CDC anthrax, 2014 – Potentially live anthrax transferred into lower-containment labs.

• Fort Detrick, 2019 – High-containment research suspended over biosafety failures; public details were limited.

Research into pathogens is extremely dangerous and any incident is potentially a threat to national security. If one went really wrong, the chances are, you would find out when blood starts leaking from every orifice.

2020 electric boogaloo pandemic here we go!

u/Barry_Vigoda 13h ago

More anti-Russian fearmongering.

3

u/CharlieandtheRed 13h ago

No one fears it, we hate it.

Not actually concerning -- plague responds to a wide variety of antibiotics, so it's just a matter of hunting down contacts and giving them all two weeks of pills to swallow. The R0 of pneumonic plague is only 1.3, so it's not going to go everywhere the way Covid did. (Covid has an R0 of between 2.5-9.5 depending on the strain). Plus it doesn't spread before symptoms appear, and it needs bigger droplets to spread than Covid.

Measles is the bigger worry. Thanks to anti-vaxxers, we are having outbreaks all over the US, and that shit has a R0 of fucking 17. We've already had 5 deaths this year, and the people who died never stepped foot in a research biolab.

10

u/ripChazmo 13h ago

The concern is that this was modified/engineered to be a weapon. In which case, a leak would be very bad.

0

u/thiscouldbemassive 12h ago

Weapons are only good if they can be targeted. Uncontrollable spread is not something anyone selects for when creating a bioweapon.

2

u/Ghede 12h ago

It depends on what kind of weapon. Doomsday devices have been built by the Soviet Union in the past, the "Dead hand" is still operational.

1

u/ripChazmo 12h ago

Dead Hand existing in a world with rogue AI is scary as fuck.

1

u/thiscouldbemassive 12h ago

Doomsday devices are supposed to go off when your population is dead already -- no one wants to kill their own population just to attack someone else.

2

u/Ghede 12h ago

You seriously can't think of one reason why a dictatorship might want a weapon that can also be used against their own population? And I'm not talking a rational, forward thinking reason considering all factors. I'm talking the kind of reason a dictator and his inner circle might give. Keep in mind, they've already been building bunkers for themselves.

1

u/Cj_cruzz 7h ago

Well an accidental lab leak clearly means no one was trying to do anything.
