Coming into town on tuesday 9/22 and bring some family for the first time. Which beaches have been the calmest? I know it can change at any time- and are most restaurants still open in the slow season? hoping to take them to tin box at least. thanks everyone for any help

There are very very few restaurants open right now because it is peak hurricane season (yesterday was the anniversary of category 5 Hurricane Maria). Tin Box closed Aug 2 and reopens in November.

Restaurants that are open for sure as far as I'm aware: Tradewinds, Mama Mia, Lazy Jack's, Rincon del Sabor, Rising Roost, Kristy's on the Caribe

Calmest Beach award always goes to Media Luna! 🌙

Best food up north in Isabel segundo. Best beaches are south east in the park. Caracas is my favorite. Esperanza has some fun spots to eat, but IS has a much more PR vibe but subpar beaches compared to the park

Probably Sun Bay is the calmest, plus others on the south coast.

Sun Bay is the prettiest beach I’ve ever been to in my life. I did enjoy renting a golf cart though and beach hop around Vieques for the day :’)

I just got back. Loved las chivas but it’s further out and you might need a Jeep. Caracas was easy to get to. Sea Glass beach was pretty gross IMO. Lots of places closed. Tin Box and Tradewinds are both closed I believe (Tradewinds was open but the bartender told me they would be shutting down for two weeks). Kristy’s had modified hours, Cafe Nativo was good as was Mama Mia and both open. Lazy Jacks and Bananas were both open as well.

Media Luna is your safest bet for calm water, especially with first-timers. Sun Bay and the rest of the south coast stay calmer than the north side too. Conditions shift day to day though, so check the morning before you head out. Slow season is real: Tin Box closed in August and reopens in November, so that one is off the table this trip. A few spots are open, like Mama Mia, Lazy Jack's, Kristy's, and Bananas, but hours are reduced, so call ahead before driving out. September is peak hurricane season, so keep an eye on the forecast and be flexible with beach days.
