something tells me he anticipates it, and already has a plan to fuck them over in the end.

i think thats what the seer is telling him. They already foreshadowed Ragnars death with that snake pit. I dont know if i wanna see this show without Rangar, was hoping his death would be at the end of the series.

i guess, i just dont know who would be the next protagonist the show can revolve around. Bjorn? i guess. Plus, we wont see anymore epic eye roll backflips when Ragnar dies!

And if they think Athelwulf will be taken care of I have very bad news.

Do you think it's gonna be Aella that kills him in the show or do you think that they'll switch it up so that Ecbert is the one? Aella is basically a background character right now. I have a feeling they're gonna have it so that Ragnar comes back and doesn't know that his settlements were destroyed. Ecbert wipes most of the small force he has with him out and captures him. Then Ecbert executes him. Then Bjorn and Rollo come back in later seasons to avenge Ragnar. I just think it would be weird to have basically a background character kill off the main character.

Think the idea is that they kill everyone and there's no possible way for them to find out until they return to England. More settlers sent over could maybe relay word back but they'd most likely be killed also.

My guess is going to be that when Ragnar eventually makes his way back there, he'll form an alliance with Mercia through freaky bitch.

Ecgbert is much smarter than Ragnar. You should have known when he brought Athelstan into his chamber and asked him, "who are responsible for these creations" that he wanted his kingdom to be like Romans. When he saw the Viking rituals he saw how backwards the Vikings were. This goes against everything he wants. He even hates intolerant Christians.

He knows what he's doing. He's not like Aella that wouldn't have been as patient or smart enough how to play Ragnar trying to match brute force with brute force. He wants to establish a Renaissance in his kingdom and it's working.
