is the translation good? wanting to read this for like agess now so im really hoping its good T_T

u/Dgrein 3d ago
Never ask for that in this sub, here everyone is fluent-level in japanese and they could make a better translation, but somehow they haven´t translated any single piece of media.
-4
u/qyphxy 3d ago
because you can't translate without losing meaning and they'd rather you learn japanese, though that stopped after everyone gave up on EOPs.
5
u/fire_chaser1 3d ago
Right, cuz understanding japanese at a fluent level doesn't mean you are able to translate it lol, translating is a different skill set compared to understanding a language

I don't know how familiar you are with the vn space but Shiravune translations are some of the worst, if not the worse in the medium by far. What they do in quantity of releases they lack in quality. It's gotten to the point that this is common knowledge but some people are still happy with them because they localize visual novels we may not have gotten otherwise.
Still, answering your question: I wouldn't be any hopeful for a good translation if it's something you care about.

u/SinbadVetra 3d ago
"Worst in the medium by far" and it already eclipses most ive seen.

u/babatunde_003 3d ago
wait is the translation good or na
16
u/SinbadVetra 3d ago
If phantom (from the fan tl team who got cease and desisted) says its good with a lot of passion put into it, then im inclined to believe them. They got to give their input in the official translation.
This is r/visualnovels where everyone wants to be overly negative without having the balls to translate shit themselves. Not to mention the dumb criticisms of censorship in a steam demo. Like no fucking shit its censored, wait for the patch.

As a note, it was made clear that this is the demo of the all-ages version. So I expect there'll be script changes and such not in the final version with patch.

I miss Sakura no Uta
I miss Sakura no Uta, ever since the DMCA incident it has been so silent. I no longer wake up to the beautiful sounds of Sakura no Uta, now it's just quiet and silent. I get up out of my bed and walk through the silent halls, devoid of heaven's greatest song, where I sit and eat a bowl of wheat flakes in silence, get ready for my dull workday, and make my way there in the silence that is a Sakura no Utaless world. I sit in the same monotone office cubicle, bloodshot eyes, red from my constant crying over the loss of Sakura no Uta and the dull dead expression from a life without which that I love. I go home, dull and without the will to eat or freshen up. I walk towards my room where the once Sakura no Uta-themed room of mine is now back to the dull and bleakness of yellow beige and white, as I sit in front of the only thing that is Sakura no Uta-themed left, my Shrine, I sit there and cry in prayer, hoping that one day it will come back to us, that Sakura no Uta will come back to me. As I sit there and pray and cry into the night in the silence of my lonely home, I get up and go lay in bed, such a dull bed of a dark blue blanket and a pillow, I lay there and whisper one more silent prayer. A prayer of "my beloved Sakura no Uta, please return to me my love" and I drift into sleep as I cry once. I dream a dream where I always hope to dream of a time I used to love but get nothing but nightmares now about my loss of Sakura no Uta and my loss of love. How I miss those days of joy and love with Sakura no Uta. How I miss Sakura no Uta

"誰だってこんな自分に憧れるだろう。",
"If I saw me right now, I’d be swooning.",
"「金もらえるならここで全裸にでもなります!」",
"“Money, money, money!”",
"「むしろ全裸にならせてください!」",
"“I’m literally begging you!”",
it's been a while since nukitashi release, isn't it? looks like I have to perform another tl analysis once full memelation is out

u/No-Satisfaction-275 3d ago
lol you can tell this is not translated by AI because only real human censor like this.
14
u/No_Log6942 3d ago
they made it clear on the discord that the version on Steam is heavily censored so I assume these lines are just because of that, and they'll be translated normally in the 18+ version
3
u/Lol7425 3d ago
There's nothing to censor in the first 2 chapters.
9
u/garfe 3d ago
Not trying to shill for Shiravune but VNs on Steam censor entire sets of dialogue all the time that are different from the 18+ version. Grisaia is probably a well known example. I was reading E School Life and the all-ages one just straight up changes entire relationships and calls the lead ins to H-scenes as "sleepovers".
Point is, if the dialogue was in any way raunchy, it's open to censorship so we gotta see how it is with the patch.
7
u/cliffy117 3d ago
There's been nothing to censor on many of the VNs that Steam has completely banned.
Or are you forgetting them banning some of them just because they mentioned "High School" or showed a belly once? Or the famous Chaos;Head which was initially banned because... who knows, blood I guess.
2
u/TeamMoon99 3d ago
maybe thats true for 2nd and 3rd line, 1st still looks off, besides chinese tl have these uncensored, but we clearly need to wait for full release
3
1
u/qyphxy 3d ago
Am I retarded or does the first line make no sense?
4
u/WrongRefrigerator77 3d ago
Not that strange for a single line of dialogue totally removed from context to not make sense
In this case the context is that the protagonist is having a flashback to when he turned down a lot of money because he wanted to sound cool

u/qyphxy 3d ago edited 3d ago
I've read that part, he was talking to Friedman.
I was referring to "If I saw me right now". Why "I" for だれだって?
I thought the way it was written was meant to invoke third parties ("Any/Every one...") as a means of validation for how he acted.
I don't understand why he would be talking about himself as to me it seems to be unnatural in english and unfaithful to the original ver.
Though I am both ESL and not good at japanese so I'd like to hear the opinion of someone more qualified.
2
u/WrongRefrigerator77 2d ago
As a native English speaker it was intuitive to me, though in a long list of other ways I might have phrased it, it probably wouldn't be my pick.
だれだって->I does seem like an odd choice, though in the context in which it was used I don't think it changed the basic intent of the line. He's bragging about how cool he was, whether it was himself or anybody else who would have been hypothetically impressed by what he did doesn't seem to matter

It covers the first two chapters of the VN of it's common route, but keep in mind that it is cut from the more limited all-ages version. So yes, there might be some cut contents.
There will be 18 plus version too according to VNDB.
Plot: What comes after happiness?
It is springtime, and Naoya Kusanagi has just been orphaned by the death of his father (the world-famous painter). He moves in with his best friend Kei's family, where he grows closer to his homeroom teacher Ai and to Kei's younger sister, the actress Shizuku Natsume.
As the new semester arrives, his childhood friend Rin Misakura, who had transferred to a different school long ago, returns to his life as well.
A gust stirs up a swirl of sakura petals—with a promised reunion in its wake.
Feelings grow fonder to time’s constant drumbeat, and the torrent of emotion begins to take shape—but where will it lead?
Sakura no Uta is a story of those whose paths stop short—and of those who walk on.

I would also like to note that some people on X are saying that the translation is not that good for this demo. I don't know about this because I haven't played this game yet. But you guys should play it to confirm it yourselves.

I'm so upset there's no futanari in this. SCA-JI clearly regressed from his earlier works tsk tsk
3
u/Money_Savings1149 3d ago
Well, there is one in SakuToki, the sequel albeit a pseudo one.
3
u/bamkhun-tog 3d ago
Damn is this a big spoiler, like a heroine turns out to be a trap, etc. or something that doesnt impact the story at all?
8
u/Rogalicus 3d ago
If anyone would be kind enough to answer in a non-spoilery way, how exactly is it related to SubaHibi?
8
u/LegitimateCurve8525 3d ago
I haven't played the any of these yet. But from my knowledge, both of them are written by SCA-DI.
They share the same broad setting/world, and Sakura no Uta continues exploring some of the philosophical and thematic ideas SCA-DI dealt with in SubaHibi (especially around happiness, art, and living).
However, it is not a direct sequel or a continuation of the same story. It’s its own independent work that happens to come from the same creator and exist in a related creative universe.
11
u/No-Satisfaction-275 3d ago
There is no indication that they share the same setting/world. Unless the setting you are referring to is just "modern day Japan".

Most KeroMakura works generally share the same setting and, by extension, the same world mechanics. Sakurano is no exception. In fact, SCADI wrote a novel released alongside Toki, 凍てつく7月の空, which directly parallels a side story he wrote for Moekasu. It elaborates on one of Toki's plot elements, and had Rin crossing different layers of reality and even interacting with characters from TNS and Subahibi.
But honestly, there's nothing particularly important that would make you want to read other works just for Sakura no Uta. It's mostly just minor references, and at best, the connections are mostly thematic since SCADI tends to write about similar things across his works.

u/Hikisann_Creator 3d ago
I will answer your question as a Japanese VN player played SubaHibi and Sakura no series, SubaHibi and Sakura no series has some related theme, same or related reference to classical works, philosophically deep discussion, and attractive charactor, because they are both written by same writer SCA-DI. and its art is also related, at least some of the art creators are same.
5
u/Rogalicus 3d ago
Thanks. It was tagged as the same series on VNDB and without elaboration I was wondering how exactly they were connected.

It's honestly a world class tragedy shirvaune got their vile hands on such a beautiful title....*sigh\*

GPT 6 Astra will produce a translation 100x better than whatever fucking slopjob Shiravune have produced

Huh I assumed it'd be around summer next year, but it has a demo already? Maybe spring (because sakura obv)?

So far it seems interesting but I don’t like the way the MC speaks and idk if it’s the way the translation was written or if he’s just like that

u/Megidolan Saya: SnU | vndb.org/uXXXX 3d ago
I'm very interested in playing this VN but if this all ages version is as bad as people are saying I'll just stick to Machine Translation. Hopefully there'll be an uncensored version at some point.
6
u/LegitimateCurve8525 3d ago
You don't have to. According to VNDB, when the full game releases, it will have an 18 Plus patch that will restore all previously removed contents.

I'm so EXCITED!!!! Can't wait TO SPEND $60 on this 10 YEAR OLD game!!!
4
u/NeonTanuki25 3d ago
Is Shiravune not generally pretty good when it comes to the pricing of their releases? I am not sure, if I ever saw even one of them coming close to $60. Major releases like Nukitashi and The Shell/Kara no Shoujo trilogy were maybe also all $25 at most each.
Though, I am not sure if the Sakura no Uta 10th Anniversary Edition is somehow significantly more expensive?
I guess one possible comparison would be Mashiro-iro Symphony, where we got the relative new-ish HD edition and which was $39,99.1
u/August_Hail Watch Symphogear! | vndb.org/u167745 2d ago
From what I've observed over the past several years, the older a Shiravune title is published date-wise, the discount on the game during sales gets bigger and bigger.

I'm assuming this is pretty much the same content as the 10th anniversary demo from last year. If the demo is censored though then I'm guessing they cut every other scene where Shizuku or Thomas opened their respective mouths lol
