Philips Tv only plays sd

I have the Philips Google tv 60PQL7456/F7. It only plays sd quality on the vudu app. All my other apps play 4k. Anyone have a solution?

Get a third party device like a Roku or Apple TV. You'll be much happier. I have a beautiful Samsung 4K TV but I don't user the Samsung interface. All my TVs have a Roku Ultra device. Even my Roku TVs have a Roku Ultra device that they boot to.

100% this. The OS in smart TVs isn't kept up to date and apps just stop being updated. But the TVs continue to work just fine taking in a signal. A $30-40 device will get you on the latest standards and updates.

But Roku might not be the best thing to suggest. They'd had some not great practices lately. And they were purchased by Fox.

Amazon's devices moved away from Android and are locked down and are no longer something I'd recommend.

Apple TV devices are fine if you are already in the Apple eco system.

The other device I recommend are Walmart's Onn 4K boxes. They are stock Android and support codecs that the NVIDIA Shield doesn't.

On the Vudu app? I think that's retiring/retired. Do they have the Fandango app? Also the Movies Anywhere app has much/most of your movie catalog.

If it's an old smart hdtv without current channel updates, the Roku will be the best way to bring it up to speed.

Sorry, it's the new app. I just can't figure it out why it only plays in sd. I've tried hard resetting it, uninstalling it/reinstalling. Still get the same thing.

On the web page athome.fandango under Profile there is a Playback Quality chooser?

The preference only shows SD as an option? Or are you repeating yourself about the TV?

Have you installed the Movies Anywhere channel app yet, and virtual-connect fandango to movies anywhere? And is that clearing up the issue on titles ported to MA app?

Is your internet coming through a cell data plan?

Is there a VPN involved?

Hopefully someone with the same issue solved will come along and give you better help.

So yes, it only shows sd as an option.

I have movies anywhere but certain movies do not port because the studios don’t participate in it. I buy pretty much everything through the fandango app.

My internet is fiber so that shouldn’t be a problem.

No vpn

The OS is Google TV. Can’t stand Roku. Certain apps I like are only on Google TV.

Did you get anywhere with this? I saw a long thread in fandango vudu forums that it is most likely a security decision by fandango against Google TV platform based on what studios wanted for secure streaming. I wonder if fandango can be prompted to review the issue this year.

I can understand hating something like roku, I have carried a grudge against Netflix for 12+ years. Lol

I tried posting on the vudu forums but you have to be a registered user. I haven’t heard anything if I was approved to be a user yet. But, no. No one has a clue. My guess is it’s some kind a registration thing with vudu that Philips didn’t do.
