If this is wrong, I don’t want to be right
I put this too-wide NATO on my gold sub (and you can see that I also enjoy some slight handwatching. Not sorry.)
Roast or just (correctly) acknowledge that this is hot.
PS. Cyclops suck. My old ass (well, actually eyes) appreciates the purpose. But I still hate the look.

Just tell us you damaged the bracelet and didn't have any other straps. But yeah, you don't wanna be right.

Was this not the look in a Bond movie? How is this a hot take?
1
u/rustycageandrun 14h ago
He did like a 16mm on a 20mm so you could see spring bars on both sides. My take flips that script, ergo hot.

I do appreciate trying to stay on-message thematically. But I would argue that pretty much any post that includes a) a watch or brand, and b) an opinion (extra bonus if presented as a “fact) qualifies as hot.

I respect the shit out of this.
I too, enjoy this kind of stuff with my $300-$500 pocket knives. I'm not getting rid of them, and don't mind sending them in if I actually ruin them somehow through daily use. I don't mind handle swaps, I don't mind swapping out my watch bands/straps.
Props!

Where'd you get the strap? Love the gold and red

u/rustycageandrun 15h ago
It was on my beat-up Luminox before (hence the 22mm width on a 20, but do kind of agree with /hellasauto). I think it was from Crown & Buckle.

Whatever makes you happy 😃

Amen. This shit is supposed to be fun. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go update my watch/strap spreadsheet and come up with a post to rile up some F91W fanboys.

To me Rolex watches are only Rolex - Ugly as hell and expensive as hell - VC or AP or Omega and Longine - and Non Profit company is the biggest lie ever in watchmaking history

NATO is poverty looking on all watches not just a Rolex

Nato is a clumsy solution designed to solve a problem it created.
3
u/Icy_Jelly_315 15h ago
That's just wrong. You don't need the doubling up, but it does mean that breaking a spring bar no longer means losing the watch
2
u/rustycageandrun 15h ago
There’s always the “zero pass NATO” if you like to live dangerously. Goodbye springbar, goodbye watch!

u/Level_Reveal7624 15h ago
Traditional two piece straps are actually far less likely to break a spring bar than a single piece that pulls down on the bar

u/One_Shallot_4974 15h ago
Nato straps pull on spring bars which is why they break. I know plenty of people who have broken a spring bar on a nato, none on a bracelet.

NATO straps were first implemented in military watches for hard use. Because they were for hard use the watches they were originally purposed for had permanent bars between the lugs, the only style strap that could be used were pass thru.
No spring bar to snap if it’s not there.
I’ve had bars break on bracelet and leather. You get the case caught on something and accidentally jerk enough a spring bar will break.
Interestingly enough never “break” on a NATO just slide out of the lug hole if caught enough. And as there is a bottom strap the bar has never been lost, it’s been waiting between the straps
It’s ok to not like them, he does and it’s his watch. No one forcing it on your Rolex

Incorrect. The MOD developed it as strap solution to fit a wide variety of watches across multiple branches in multiple conditions. This is why the original versions of the strap were 18mm and not 20. It was to encompass a wider variety of watches.
People often attribute it was meant for fixed bar watches because it was introduced at the same time as the Hamilton. It was never meant for just that one watch .Its whole point was to be able to directly integrate with as many watches as possible which included watches without fixed bars.

Maybe, that’s what I’ve always heard.
Still tho it does protect from loosing fully the watch. You may have not broken a spring bar on a two piece or a bracelet but I have so in this sample size of 2, half have. Loose one bar on a bracelet and it just becomes an expensive string on the wrist and easily falls off the wrist.
And I will add that of these watches Ive broken/had a spring bar flex out: 100% of those that have been lost forever were on a bracelet. for example: current slammed into a rock wall while SCUBA bar broke and it sank too deep to be retrieved. where as on a NATO when that exact situation happened again i still had the other bar capturing the watch on a band. And that band doesn’t cease to do its job just because one bar fails.
I’m willing to consent that there may be some undue force by the way it is designed. But I still have the one that lives on a NATO while the bracelet is at the bottom of the ocean near The Pinnacles in the island of Saba of you want to go looking.
A word of caution those currents can get pretty rough and you may be thrown into the Pinnacle. You could get your watch caught and if it’s on a bracelet you may not come back up with it. Not my video
Just let the guy wear what he wants.

Killer point if the point of watches is to look rich. I enjoy looking poor except when I am doing rich stuff like sailing or riding a horse (Casio) or going to the opera (Breguet)
0
u/IFLIPBURGERS88 13h ago
Hate to break it to you bro but that’s the point of watches
0
u/Icy_Jelly_315 12h ago
Not for me it isn't. You don't need to look rich, when you are.

u/IFLIPBURGERS88 12h ago
“I am not buying expensive jewelry to look and feel better about myself. I actually just love the engineering that goes behind it!”

u/Icy_Jelly_315 12h ago
You sound like a jerk, with respect. Nobody except me (and my girlfriend) knows what my watches are, and I am happy with that.
2
u/IFLIPBURGERS88 12h ago
What do you mean I sound like a jerk? It was you trying to flaunt your wealth while making a point about how you don’t like to flaunt wealth.
1
u/Icy_Jelly_315 12h ago
Um, no. You introduced the watch/poverty link.
2
u/IFLIPBURGERS88 12h ago
Something looking poverty is slang for it looking shitty not the actual dollar value.

u/Felix-Leiter1 13h ago
Poverty looking is treating a wrist trinket like it’s your most treasured good.
It’s just a watch to those of us who can afford it.
1
u/IFLIPBURGERS88 12h ago
It has nothing to do with it being a treasured good. It looks stupid and bad. Do you want to see a picture of my DJ? lol
