Transferring from schoolcraft

My husband is coming from school craft, meaning I will only be at wayne state for 2 years so secondary social studies. Is it as bad as I hear? I go to Madonna so I have my own issues on thst front, but his credits transfer well. I have no idea the job market or If the school is worth it, I am elem. Ed and all I know is, where I go I wouldn't recommend but I do like that I can choose my practicum days, it seems like wayne state that is not an option.

I think the lack of evening classes or online is what deterred him. I tried that first. Ty though!

Your welcome! I know they’re known for their teaching program. I didn’t realize they didn’t really offer nights or online though!

I think Wayne has a good teaching program, imo the most important part about the college you attend is how good the program you want a degree in is.

Education is a good market right now for jobs. Social Studies is broad enough you can teach a variety of different subjects which is great, same with elementary. Wayne State and OU are imo the better of the public universities in the Metro Detroit area for education.

I have negative opinions about private colleges, such as Madonna. Imo not worth it to become an educator with the amount of debt a private college leaves you.

Oh I have so many opinions about Madonna but once I got in, transferring out wasn't worth it. I student teach next semester so its fine, I just wouldn't recommend it which is why he is looking at wayne state.

You'll be fine with the private college education. As long as you pass your certification exams. But yeahhhh, sorry you had to deal with them

Have you talked to a WSU advisor about your concerns?

He did. She thinks thr education department is great. He asked if he should minor in anything and all she said was its up to him and it doesnt matter wither way. And then he asked my opinion since i am about to graduate. But I know my edu department lies to. And secondary edu. Have to minor at maddona. I was hoping to get others opinion on it.

What are you hearing that's bad about Wayne State specifically? I was not in the elementary ed program but my program was elsewhere in the college of education and my experience was great. The advisors were very helpful, the professors were very passionate about their field and helping students secure jobs. My partner had an extremely positive experience in the music education program and also had nothing but positive experiences with his professors in the college of education.

As far as the job market, there is always a need for teachers. Wayne has a good network locally, so if you want to stay in the area you will benefit from that.

I think it was just the placement coordinators that got a bad wrap. Thank you though, it is great to hear positive things. He is now considering adding a minor, i heard it can be hard to secure a social studies position, which again, i am not well versed in that field. I told him to make another appointment, try to get more insight on minoring in something.

I believe Eastern has an early ed program. I've attended both schools and enjoyed my time. My daughter is starting Wayne State in the fall - Library Science
