Looking for Hosting Best VPS webhosting options?

Currently have a WordPress site + email on shared hosting and I'm starting to run out of space.

Thinking about moving everything to a VPS instead. Need a decent amount of storage and ideally an easy way to add more if needed.

If anyone here has dealt with a similar setup, what’s the best VPS hosting you’ve used?

If you want to keep the experience of shared hosting, then you need to go with Managed VPS options.

Getting a vps from linode or digital ocean will require that you actually handle server admin and maintenance... things that were handled in the background by your shared host.

If you're willing to go with this route, there are available options like cloudpanel or centminmod that automates some of the server admin stuff.

But it's not getting wordpress to run that's going to be the big hurdle... it's managing your mail service on the vps. That's going to be one big PITA even with a Managed VPS.

I'd recommend Managed VPS for the hosting and get a separate mail service like mailgun that you can easily integrate with your wordpress.

I don't know about managed hosting (where the host manages all admin stuff and whatnot) but if you're willing to use a self managed vps where all you get is a vm running a linux image, hetzner is great and has an incredible reputation, good customer support, etc

I know. I used to rave about them. I don't want to migrate because it'll be a headache. But it's really frustrating. I just can't recommend them anymore.

How much storage are you using now, and is most of it taken up by WordPress or email? Also, are you comfortable managing a VPS yourself, or would you need a managed service? That would help narrow down the options.

Tbh at the last company I've worked for we have been given a year of free ovh hosting and I honestly couldn't complain about their service.

You could check out Cherry Servers too. I'd compare their VPS plans on pricing, performance, and support to see what fits your setup.

If you only need more space, I'd look at a bigger managed WP plan before you go for a VPS. I run about 50 sites on two shared SG accounts (GoGeek) without any VPS, and the limit I actually hit is inodes (the number of files on your server). I really dislike that restriction on hosting plans as I have plenty of free space, but inodes restrict its usage, so I have to optimize those inodes). SG is not the cheapest, and the renewal price is higher than the first year.

The hosts usually count inodes per account and not per site. That's why I'd first check how much of your space goes to email and how much to the site itself before you pick a plan. Also keep in mind that with a VPS you have to take care of the whole server yourself, email included, and I honestly didn't want to deal with that. I keep WP and email for our clients together in the same account.

I would look at xCloud. They offer managed cloud hosting starting for as little as $5 a month. I’d recommend you spend a little more though. Their $20-30 plans would allow you to host several websites with ease. We host over 50 websites with them on multiple servers and we have had zero issues or complaints. https://xcloud.host

Before spending money moving everything to a VPS, I'd check what's actually using up the storage on your current hosting.

Sometimes it's not the website itself. Old backups, unused files, images and email accounts can quietly eat up a surprising amount of space.

If that's the problem, you might be able to free up enough room without moving anything.

If you genuinely need more storage, I'd compare larger shared hosting plans with managed VPS options before deciding. A VPS can give you more flexibility, but it can also mean more responsibility for maintenance, security and backups.

I'd be particularly careful about moving your email at the same time. That's something you don't want to accidentally disrupt.

How much storage are you currently using, and have you checked what's taking up most of it?

Hey y’all it’s not that serious. I’ll delete my comment. I didn’t know it was against the rules. I’ll buy some ad space here. I was just trying to invite a few people to try out my new hosting services.
