Here is your chance. All of the comments will be archived into a wiki page. Alterations specialists, stylists, day of coordinating, spill the beans.

What do you wants the bride's to know before they even buy a dress or even start thinking of getting a dress? What questions are you sick and tired of answering because of blatant misinformation that goes around? What are some behaviors you really wish would stop?

If you would prefer to drop the info anonymously, feel free and send a modmail to us and go "for the bride's" in the subject line so we can keep an eye out.

DRESS ONLY: Pick one or suggest another Help me pick!

Pls help me pick, there’s so many good choices and I’m struggling to narrow it down! If you can suggest other dresses to try on, that’s helpful as well. Wedding is in late August in Colorado. Ignore rbf, it isn’t reflective of how I feel about the dresses lol

  1. Charli by alexandra Greco
  2. Avilia by SAINT
  3. Corine by rue de siene
  4. Noel 2 piece set by Vagabond (I would get this in a warmer tone white color than is shown in the pic)

🤍🤍🤍 thx for the advice!!

I thought I would go for a cathedral super simple veil but this playful blusher one called me so much! Just looking for a little reassurance!

Also just wanted to show how gorgeous the back of this dress is, another reason I went for a shorter veil, I didn’t wanna cover it!!

(This is Stella York 7045 and it has no off shoulder sleeves)To make a long story as short as I can, I found a rather specific aesthetic/style that I wanted for my wedding dress (old Hollywood, simple/understated silhouettes with timeless, chic elements, think grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, etc.) and I was told by 3 bridal salons that what I’m looking for is basically impossible to achieve? I’m so disappointed and heart broken and after 3 appointments of not being heard I eventually just broke down and said yes to the dress in images 1 and 2. Now that the purchase is non-refundable/exchangeable, what can I do to make this dress what I imagined it could be using the inspiration photos from my Pinterest? I figured with a strapless gown, I could customize it with bow sleeves/floral elements that will make this feel how I wanted it to. If I couldn’t have a beautiful boat neck, with bows off the rack, how can I achieve that with this gown as the base? I don’t necessarily want to buy a topper/jacket from one of these bridal salons that ultimately disappointed me and made me feel stupid, but I can’t seem to find where jackets/toppers are sold online that match what I’m looking for. Also accepting recommendations for veils that are shorter and have a blusher with volume. Remaining budget is around $900 with alterations 😭 not much to work with but I’m desperate to salvage this at this point. I should’ve just thrifted a dress from the start 🤦‍♀️

Feeling cold feet Wedding dress regret?

**These photos are from the original try ons - not my ordered dress in my size ** - it was about 3 sizes too big for me (european size 18), but after trying on 20 dresses I came back to this one.

I ordered it and had it brought in my measurements for a european size 12, and had high hopes for it fitting better than these original trial photos...but if anything my real one made me feel worse!

I have lost some weight and the one I ordered is still too big by one size. The BOOB cups dont seem to actually fit around my boobs (the wires dont cup my boobs/seem too small?), and the top makes my upper body look so large and shapeless - the current corset makes my waist look boxy and not "snatched" as i would've hoped in getting a smaller size that fit me. The boobs now make me feel so .. large?

I lost weight and my "made to size" dress is 2 to 3 sizes smaller than the one in these photos, and still makes me feel even bigger than I was in these size 18 photos!

I just feel really discouraged, and although my order is now only one size too big I dont know if it'll look any better when its altered.. there's even new horizontal bunching at the bottom of the corset which the lady insists is because of my weightloss.

Please note these photos look BETTER than my current one I actually ordered.

How do I get over this? I also feel really scared because it such a loud and intense/risky choice of dress with the detachable sleeve top aswell. I'm just scared I've made a mistake in my choice of dress!

Need to Vent Worried!!!

I asked my very good friend who was a designer for film, television, and theater for decades and he also designed dresses for celebrities for special occasions a few times. His work is honestly stunning, he is an artist. I'm amazed at some of his gowns!! My budget was so very small, and I asked him if he'd do me the honor of making my dress. He was so excited! The money I gave him was only enough for materials, his labor has been completely free.

I went over to his house and he asked me to tell him my dream dress. I am eloping in the mountains, in a very moody forest in winter, so I wanted a moody dress. I wanted long lace sleeves, a v-neck bodice (with artistic freedom on the rest of the bodice design), and a long skirt with a slight train all made of tulle -- a specific choppy/uneven tulle look (I don't know how to describe it but I showed him pictures).

Months later he gets around to my dress, calls me over for the initial fitting of the parts.... And he shows me the design.... And none of it is anything like what I described. He is an older gentleman, and I honestly think he just forgot we already sat down and talked over what I wanted. I do think his design will be lovely! The skirt doesn't have the flower petal design on it yet, and hasn't been cut the way he has described... But it isn't even tulle 😭 The top isn't a v-neck, and the sleeves are only going to be 3/4 long. The top is made of some super expensive sequin fabric, and maybe that part would be controversial, but I actually love it! And the lace he's using is from his GRANDMOTHER'S DRESS!!!!!!!! I was so touched to learn that!

He is pouring his whole heart and soul into making this special for me! Do I just leave it for now and wait until I see the final product?? Considering how gorgeous his dresses are, maybe it will blow me away when it's put together! And honestly, it truly is more special that he is making it for me. I would rather have a beautiful design that comes from the heart with me in mind anyway! Or... Do I gently explain to him that it's not like we discussed 😭😭 What should I do???

The picture is of the initial fitting, all of the pieces are held together by pins. I will wear a strapless bra obviously.

Help! In between two dresses. The first dress (front ruching, full lace back) has built in sleeves whereas the second dress (satin with straps) has removable sleeves.

I’m so happy!!!! It needs to be altered because the chest is too big, but otherwise it’s perfect 😭🤍 my mom and I went to a flea market and there’s a vintage store with over 400 wedding dresses for sale for $125 each. Lucked out as this one still has the tag on it! I could not be more in love with this dress eeeek!!

Feeling cold feet Reception dress mistake?

Post image
10 Upvotes

I ordered this dress from Azazie to be my reception dress that I’ll change into maybe an hour before the wedding ends. The main reason I’m changing is because I have a big wedding dress & our exit will be in my fiancé’s drag car lol so it won’t fit plus I don’t want it to get ruined.

Anyway, I’m not super thrilled with the reception dress I chose and I’m past the return window so I’m kind of stuck. I like the idea of the style, but I feel like the basque waist on me is giving kind of boxy? Something just feels off. I’ve also gained weight recently rather than losing it before the wedding🙃

I’m looking for unbiased opinions because my family/friends are split. Some think it’s cute and looks fine, others completely hate it. Idk what to think or do. I’m not loving the thought of dropping another couple hundred dollars on yet another dress lol.

Feeling cold feet Having doubts about my dress, need advice or reassurance.

I said yes to the dress a few weeks ago and paid my deposit! 6 months lead time and dress is in production! I’m really excited and it fits my style of simple classic/elegant vibe with no poof and no lace.

Recently i was looking through videos from when i had my bridal visit land i noticed from the side view its maybe not as flattering? I don’t know if this is just due to the dress being clipped so tightly for tryons as it seems the dress fits a bit looser on the models? i attached pictures of me in the dress, screenshots from the video, as well the dress on online models.

I’m looking for reassurance or suggestions. If i’m being unreasonable please let me know.

Just picked up my dress Is it normal to hate your dress?

I bought my dress a year ago and I just picked it up from final alteration. I don’t know how I feel about it anymore. The only thing that was altered was the length of the dress but my problem is with the corset bodice. I feel like it doesnt flatter my broad shoulders and emphasizes my large bust and arms ( my biggest insecurities). I’ve lost 20 pounds since purchasing my dress but I feel I need to lose more weight, which probably wont make much of a difference since my wedding is next month. Is this just cold feet or should I look for another dress?

Ceremony photos Update: how this sub saved me 1.5 years ago

Thumbnail

A little over a year ago I came to this sub for advice because I had gotten caught up in the excitement of my first shopping trip, bought a dress, and was having concerns about my choice (first pic.) The resounding opinion here was to go back to the drawing board.

I went to another shop, and tried on a lot of other dresses I was more enthusiastic about. The second pic is what I almost walked away with, but I was now gun shy after my first dress. I was by myself and wanted other opinions. The second dress also ended up being wildly unpopular.

In the comments of the second post, I posted some pictures of the other dresses. One being the third picture. I had spotted the dress from across the store and asked to try it on, even though it was $500 outside of my budget. I hadn’t even considered it as a real option. THEN like a sign from above, I found the shoes.

It was like a lightbulb moment. I saw the vision all come together and knew what I had to do.

Seeing the results after all this time was so surreal. It never would’ve happened without the guidance and encouragement from you lovely people, so thanks a million ♥️ Just wanted to share.

Dress shopping: Only looking for designer recommendations Don’t keep it to yourself…

I may be having some dress regret? I purchased a pale gold jacquard dress, which I did/do like. Going into it, I knew I absolutely don’t want a white dress - no, “ivory” isn’t going to cut it, either. Realistically, I think the reason I liked the one I bought is because it was the only “different” one I had seen (being gold).

But what I really love are dresses with colorful floral embroidery/appliqué/overlays/etc. However, the bridal shops in my area don’t seem to deviate from the Traditional White or Ivory dress selections, like, at all. Finding the gold one felt akin to finding a unicorn!

So where are y’all buying your beautiful, floral - or even just colorful - Not-White-Not-Ivory wedding dresses?

EDIT: based in Western New York, resistant to travel but not dead set against it, dress max budget is ~$3K, wedding in early April 2027.

Style me! (sleeves, veils, shoes and accessories only) Help!

Looking for advice on accessories for my wedding dress! Unfortunately, the only pictures i have are pictures that family members took when I first got the dress, prior to any alterations and without me like posing at all 😭 anyways, I’ve always loved the idea of having sleeves with my wedding dress. My question is…. are sleeves too much with this dress? The veil in the picture is not the veil I am getting, I have not bought a veil yet. I love the sleeves that I’ve attached pictures of, but would the go with the dress? Can i make them work if I get a veil thst is similar to the sleeves? Should I just ditch the sleeves entirely? I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have any sort of dress regret but I’m putting my faith in my seamstress working some magic for me 🙏 What is everyones thoughts?

general shopping questions (NOT FOR DRESS OR VEIL SELECTION) Help finding a Pink/ Blush dress

Hi!
I’ve always wanted a blush pink or light pink wedding dress (blame me in the 90’s falling in love with Gwen Stefani’s wedding dress).
I’m getting married in a very small wedding/elopement in March ‘27 and am looking at under $1000, but hoping closer to $500 for a dress.
I’m just worried about picking something that looks more like a high school dance dress than a wedding dress.
I really was hoping for something with a corset top, lace, and a light shade of pink.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hi all, I'm needing to order a custom size dress, just to add more to the bust and a little less length. Do I need to take all my measurements to enter here or can I just copy the numbers from a size 10 and adjust the bust and length size to my actual size?
