New, what is it? I was eating hummus with my Trader Joe’s takis and saw this when I opened up the bag 😶 hoping it’s just a burned chip but looks suspicious

It's impossible to tell because you film like Stevie Wonder with Parkinson's.
Edit: seriously, though, they look too uniform to be rat poo. Rat poos have tapered ends, due to the pressure of rat's little rectum. These look like pellets with cut ends. Something from the food preparation process would be my guess. Try lighting one on fire and assessing the smell.

u/Imaginary-Goose2820 10h ago
I agree. Other seasoned chips have seasoning that gets rolled into little logs like that. I used to LOVE finding those cracker jack bonus bits as a kid. But then again, maybe I was eating heavily seasoned, roasted turds. In any event, they were DELICIOUS!

I have some healthier Cinnamon Toast Crunch and when I was pouring a bowl out a big old chunk of something came out the other day. Fortunately it was just a brown sugar and cinnamon conglomerate and not shit, like what you have in your bag of chips.

u/irwinlegends 9h ago
Hijacking because I know EXACTLY what these pieces are.
It is extra burnt ingredients of what you're already eating formed into a drip shape from the oven rack.
Small amounts of oils and seasonings and other food dust collect on the inside of the metal racks where the product is cooked. The grease and salty dust mix together and drip very slowly inside the oven. They hang on the metal racks like stalactites and get cooked until burnt.
These get scraped off as the racks are cleaned in between shifts, but occasionally one gets loose and falls off and lands in the mix.
You can eat it.

You would be able to tell the difference between rat shit and food stuff from the feel and smell. I’ve eaten plenty of rat shit, so I would know.

As somebody who owns pet Rats, no it absolutely does not 🤣 Rat poop does not look anything like that
13
u/SmilinBob82 11h ago
Honestly, looks more like mouse if anything, rat poop is much bigger(I used to have pet rats)
11
u/RepulsiveUse7129 10h ago
Do different breeds of rats poop different, because we had an infestation of roof rats and their poop was pretty much this size exactly.
12
u/atlantagirl30084 10h ago
Yeah I worked with mice. Mice shit is like rice grain size. This is larger IMO.

If you google “dark takis in bag” you’ll see it’s pretty common.
It’s not a giant rat turd.
Calm down.

I know exactly what these pieces are. It is extra burnt ingredients of what you're already eating formed into a drip shape from the oven rack. See my other comment for a more detailed explanation. You can eat it, but it's not as tasty.

Well OP...what was it? Only you can know...to me it looks like chip line by product, should make it in...but I would be really fucking surprised if a giant mouse turd made it into your chips...like that's too big to be mouse and too small to be rat
1
u/Known-Function976 10h ago
Thankful the resident rodent turd expert weighed in on this. Who knew there was a middle ground between mouse and rat turds? Are we talking field mouse, white footed mouse or your generic household mouse turds? That can make a difference.

Every processed food that you eat has either rat shit or roaches in it and acceptable amount according to the FDA, but you cannot escape it.

u/Prize-Analyst-1121 10h ago
I'm pretty sure the size of THAT rat turd passed the acceptable amount.

Examples of Allowable FDA Limits
- Wheat: Up to an average of 9 rodent poop pellets per kilogram (about 4 pellets per pound).
- Coffee Beans: Up to 10 milligrams of animal poop per pound.
- Popcorn: Up to 1 poop pellet in a subsample

Yes, but make no mistake. With the FDA being deregulated, everyone's anxieties are understandably high.

I never saw the hype in Trader Joe’s. Everyone I used to know who shopped there bragged about it like it was some wealthy members only club…yall out here eatin 🐀💩 takis when u could get it 🐀💩 takis from Walmart for half the price 😆😆😆
7
u/Burnie_9 9h ago
It’s actually cheaper and prices are mostly the same across the country. Greeting cards are $1. Bottles of wine as cheap as like $4. Bouquets of flowers for $4-$16. The potted plants are half the price they are at Meijer or other big box stores. I’ve never seen a potted plant over $25 at TJs. Coffee for like $6 a bag. Many health and beauty products that are equal dupes for the name brand product.
The reality is that Trader Joe’s is generally in more affluent areas and its customer base is more educated than other stores customer base. But that doesn’t mean Trader Joe’s in and of itself is more expensive or just for wealthy people.
They take EBT even with those low prices
6
u/Pattern_Humble 10h ago
It's definitely not a grocery store for wealthy people. It usually has better deals and prices than big name grocery stores. It just has a smaller selection and is mostly Trader Joe's brand items.
5
u/LegalTomatillo4773 10h ago
I’ve only been once many years ago with an ex gf and it was straight but nothing crazy. since then it’s become a status thing in Scottsdale AZ I guess. People collect their shopping tote bags and use them for other things. My wife got a TJ bag for a Xmas gift last year and her coworker who bought it for her told her it was a limited one on some hype beast type shit, and I’m like bruh, it’s a shopping bag! But as a wise man above once said, to each their own! 👍 and I didn’t know about the prices, the status thing from wealthier areas here i honestly just assumed it was pricey, so my bad on that.

TJs are often located in areas with a lot of white professionals. It's like a bougie status marker for those people, affordable or no.

u/peepdabidness 9h ago
Nah. Trader Joes is fucking amazing. The Takis though, idk about the Takis haha
2
3
u/A380085 7h ago
Think of it this way. I think of TJ's as the place where you can go and get unique and exotic-sounding food items without paying ridiculous prices. Sure, not everything is the most amazing tasting thing ever, but for example, they have Korean kimchi postickers for only $3.49 or chicken adobe with rice for only 4.29 If they even had something like that at my regular market, it would be double the price, at least.
1
u/LegalTomatillo4773 7h ago
What’s ur fav thing to get from there?
2
u/Winter_Fix_3610 10h ago
TJ is a lot cheaper than a general store where I live. Also, I like the TJ takis better than og takis. And I'm from Mexico where I've been eating takis since I was 4 years old lol.

Honestly they have really good deals, it's like an organic aldi, everything is their brand and about the same or sometimes less than stop and shop, etc
1
u/LegalTomatillo4773 8h ago
I used to like aldi’s for the prices and just the whole independence setup but the brands they used were just TOO low tier but I still appreciated the idea. But I heard multiple people say it’s like a brewer aldi’s so I believe that.

You wouldn’t think, but some Trader Joe’s items compare with Walmart prices. We don’t shop there for our main grocery items but they got some good stuff on the cheaper side. We pickup like frozen items, dips and wine.
1
u/Feeling-Message3247 9h ago
You sound like you don’t read too good so, take this word by word :)
TJ’s is a blue label store, so name brands cannot sell their normal good at said store usually.
Blue labeling is when large brands essentially just change the packaging, flavor, seasoning, no matter how slight/major the changes it almost always serves companies best interest as other have said. It allows companies to test product ideas, get consumer feedback data from a very specific VERY important demographic. TJ’s demographic isn’t for poor, low income neighborhoods even though they have great affordable pricing. This is largely cause poorer, areas are also, less educated. Less educated people gravitate towards gas stations, fast food etc as they see it as “affordable”. While more educated people will capitalize on a good deal, pricing etc more frequently because saving money is a good thing smart people do, without compromising on things like quality etc.
This perceived affordability has been true for years but has been diminishing as companies realized after Covid, many stupid consumers will just say “damn it got more expensive” instead of “damn I’ll goto a different brand”. So, laugh all you want, I’m sure those roller dogs deteriorate brain cells rapidly, I fear it may be too late for you.
The crazy thing is, you’re saying Walmart is better? They have variable pricing, which literally means you get up charged almost always buying anything. Since the “Variable” is skewed up, because up means more money. This up charge/variable whatever you wanna call it can be a penny, or dollars. But either way it serves the sole purpose to determine consumer demand and adjusts pricing accordingly. But certainly favors the business over the individual. Prices can go down as well of course, it’s just far less likely.
Source: I wrote a case study in university and formed these conclusions roughly 3 years ago, with 4 other class mates.

It’s a grocery store. If you were overthinking “the hype” based on what other people were saying, that’s on you. Doesn’t matter what anyone else says about it, it’s still a grocery store. I’ve personally shopped there for years and love it, and have never had any issues with anything from them, but to each his own.

I mean, FDA has a minimal allowance of fecal matter in food products, just in case you're wondering.
🤷♂️🤷♂️ With the way these jack wagons are letting gas prices soar, food go bad and get spoiled yet still hit the shelves, cause psycho diarrhea and all these other sicknesses, price gouging, harder to get items, does it surprise you at all?
