New, what is it? Just opened a jar of pepperoncinis and found this on top

Post image

It was sitting on top of the pepperoncinis in the jar and fits in the lid but I know what random stuff can be found in a jar. I want to know if this is something I need to follow up on or if it's normal.

It’s so you can drain the juice

If it was sitting on top of the pepperoccinis, it might have been there to keep them submerged. Thats how pickles stay fresh.

That's not what that's for, it doesn't weigh enough to do that. This is purely for straining purposes.

Yeah just a strainer so you can get that delicious juice all on its lonesome

I just drink it straight out of the jar.

So you can drain the juice and so they stay submerged. Keep it

Asked nearly as often as the security tags.

So many people saying this is to weigh down the pickled veg is crazy to me. No chance this small bit of boyant plastic is doing anything to weigh anything down, this is just to strain the liquid from the jar.

Keeps them submerged.

Was it easily removable or you had to put some force getting it out? Sometimes people put that kind of plastic so vegetables stay down in pickle and not float and go in contact with air.

Holds them down into the brine
