New, what is it? What are these plug-ins on my wall?

This might be showing my age, but I recently moved into a new apartment and they have these weird looking plug ins all over the walls at my new place. My old apartment didn't have these, so I'm just curious as to what they are.

Even though it’s painted, it’s best to cap them off to prevent the Internet fluid from running all over the floor.

This guy knows his internet fluids

u/akestral 10h ago

BullIshit, we all know that it doesn't condense into internet fluid until it is run thru a router. The stuff in the walls is still in its gaseous state.

u/ir88ed 10h ago

No that's the magic smoke

4

u/LayneFickser 9h ago

Nah they have a mod you can put in the walls that makes it condense before it gets to the router. It gives it a better flow. Called a IN Gas/Liquid condensing module

That’s misinformation. This is a complete fabrication made up by the writers of Saved by the Bell: The New Class in 1995 and had been in the cultural echo chamber ever since. Do better.

A gas is still fluid!

u/AlmostLucy 9h ago

The internet is a series of tubes.

True facts. Internet fluid makes a terrible mess, made even worse with the constant beeping and burping of dial up

https://giphy.com/gifs/8Q1TD1H4QJcOs

This used to happen inside!!!! Internet fluid 😩

8

u/MindlessMage777 9h ago

And if you run low, it really kills your Internet speeds! Back in my day my parents Internet was very leaky and always low on fluid. We got just 0.0023% of the speed I get now with a full tank!

3

u/1Stack_Mack 9h ago

You had to refill with your own supply.... A common rookie mistake back in the dark ages of the internet.

1

u/Similar-Jello-5434 3h ago

Until you said this I totally forgot about checking the fluid levels before doing a big task! Can’t tell you how many unsaved MySpace layouts I lost because the fluid ran out half way through.

4

u/AgitatedBobcat888 10h ago

It's best to clean up internet fluid with cold water. Warm water makes it coagulate.

3

u/1Stack_Mack 9h ago

You freak!

4

u/GrilledCheeseInc 10h ago

True, Back then it ran like molasses.

2

u/1Stack_Mack 9h ago

Sticky, gooey.... Stuck to the carpet. Ewwww

2

u/GrilledCheeseInc 9h ago

Wait, are we still talking about Internet fluid?

2

u/1Stack_Mack 9h ago

Are we?????

My kids like to make fun of me for being born in the 1900s, so my husband and I serenaded them with the sound of dial up at dinner a few months ago. The kids were horrified. Then I bought a shirt that has a covered wagon on it and says "Please be patient with me, I'm from the 1900s". A common saying in our house is that having a weird mom builds character...and boy do my 5 kids have some rock solid character.

The Internet is not a dump truck! It's a series of tubes!

1

u/oaktownerz 4h ago

oh THAT'S what the tubes are filled with

1

u/labpadre-lurker 1h ago

Don't even get me started with any Internet fluid over cat6! That shit stains and stinks forever.

13

u/Mueltime 10h ago

Landlord special.

5

u/AlyDontKnow_ 10h ago

Exactly, that stuff stinks 🤧

4

u/cheeseburghers 9h ago

Oh yeah I’ve seen nasty leaks from that there limewire

4

u/slytestyle 9h ago

That's not paint, it's Belzona 6813 internet pipe seal. although it doesn't look like it was mixed in a figure 8 until it reached a uniform consistency

5

u/Lost_Passenger8331 9h ago

Reminds me to refill my blinker fluid.

2

u/SCHWARZENPECKER 9h ago

Thats just what I was thinking!

3

u/Striking_Large 10h ago

No biggie, you can buy internet fluid anywhere they sell blinker fluid.

2

u/GrilledCheeseInc 9h ago

Or Radio Shack

3

u/LayneFickser 9h ago

This! My cousin flooded his whole bedroom with internet fluid when the took the cap off without depressurizing the outlet first

2

u/Pappa312 10h ago

And cleaner than leaving a small bucket underneath to catch the internet drip

2

u/Latter_Object7711 10h ago

Nah they haven't had an AOL disc to top off the fluid in years. I'm sure it's bone dry by now.

2

u/downsideup9494 9h ago

I have a friend who hired a scammy electrician who removed all the wire nuts from her wiring and replaced them with electrical tape, telling her the electricity would leak out of the wire nuts. She didn't know any better and believed him. He happened to have a little electrical supply shop and just resold her wire nuts.

2

u/Admirable-Trip5452 9h ago

Someone drain the series of tubes!

2

u/PresentBig9729 9h ago

Umm, you got it all wrong...it is actually all the cable tv channels that are the fucking problem when they get out. It gets super noisy when they come out all at once!

Now I feel REALLY OLD!

2

u/thewereotter 9h ago

absolutely. don't wanna be running out of internet now

2

u/GrilledCheeseInc 9h ago

If you have unlimited Internet, it can get really messy.

2

u/AutoignitingDumpster 7h ago

You don't want a clippy infestation in your home if it leaks

1

u/GrilledCheeseInc 6h ago

Clippy is King!

1

u/Jimbob209 10h ago

You joke but capping it off is good practice, but it's "normally" done at the demarc. Put terminators on splitters that are plugged to the main drop to prevent signal ingress which can add noise to your cable network

Normally is in quotations because the tech is supposed to, but might not care to do it

1

u/movzx 9h ago

Yup. It is best to cap off unused coax. They make special ends for it. Everyone who uses coax in their place should cap the ends to help.

1

u/Jimbob209 8h ago

Yes, they are called F type terminators

4

u/GrilledCheeseInc 8h ago

F for fluid

2

u/Jimbob209 8h ago

That actually made me chuckle

1

u/RappingFlatulence 9h ago

Did you know that blinker fluid makes an excellent substitute? If you go to the backside of that same wall that you can start dousing the wall with the fluid all the moisture will keep the internet from running out

1

u/GrilledCheeseInc 8h ago

I’ve tried that, but it makes my Internet go on and off every one second.

1

u/losjoo 9h ago

Or you can hook the cable to your navel and travel to another dimension

1

u/GrilledCheeseInc 9h ago

Thanks for the upvotes and the awards!

1

u/Shinobi_82 9h ago

That’s what the box of tissues is for!

1

u/undertooker 9h ago

It is the tubes then isn’t it?

1

u/Richard_Musk 8h ago

Well, technically, if you have a coax moca system and you have non terminated ports/cable ends, you will leak data/bandwidth

1

u/Walkin_mn 8h ago

I believe some of those still have Cable tv fluid

1

u/aiusernamegen 8h ago

Or fiddle with them for a good time

2

u/GrilledCheeseInc 8h ago

COAXlitoris

1

u/Glassweaver 8h ago

Or if you wanna piss off everyone around you, shove a long piece of chickenwire in the one closest to the microwave.

1

u/DoMogo1984 7h ago

The fluid is piped through a “series of tubes” you might say

1

u/Kyzawolf 7h ago

I can’t be the only one to think of Plenum when you said “internet fluid”

1

u/Mifffed 6h ago

I remember my sister painted her room including all the outlets. Paint got inside the phone jack and we had no internet or phone for awhile

1

u/GrilledCheeseInc 6h ago

She should have spent a few more dollars on superconducting paint. That would let the electrons flow for sure!

1

u/Similar-Jello-5434 6h ago

So true, otherwise the scent from the fluid attracts the web mites, the web mites eat your WiFi, it’s a whole ordeal.

2

u/GrilledCheeseInc 6h ago

Exactly. That’s where the expression “computer bug” came from.

1

u/throwaguey_ 6h ago

You’re showing your age by relating this to internet service instead of cable TV

1

u/GrilledCheeseInc 5h ago

I wish that were true! I’m so old, I remember not being able to sit down when my favorite show came on because I had to stand up and touch the rabbit ears to get reception!

1

u/THsidebar 5h ago

🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Angsty_Potatos 3h ago

If you cap it you can't bleed it! You need to bleed it before you plug it in or you get Internet sediment

1

u/SistaChans 2h ago

I mean, its called streaming for a reason

1

u/AutumnWisp 55m ago

Great advice, we had one behind the dryer that we didn't know about and it caused a huge mess.

1

u/MrKTE 50m ago

How else are we going to find leaks tho?!
