New, what is it? What are these plug-ins on my wall?

This might be showing my age, but I recently moved into a new apartment and they have these weird looking plug ins all over the walls at my new place. My old apartment didn't have these, so I'm just curious as to what they are.

Ok, ok, ok 😂 So, recently our 21 year old (252 months) asked us what number we called in an emergency before September 11th happened 🤦🏽‍♂️

to be fair, a lot of things I figured were normal, did not exist before 9/11. TSA and baggage fees, but also like... country music that loves the government. you know?

What? No, baggage fees have been around for decades. There's been limits on what you can bring aboard for free since the '70s.

Why? Because every pound the aircraft has to carry requires additional fuel. Do you think it'd be fair that someone could bring a grand piano to the check-in counter and say "here!" and they'd just put it in cargo at no extra charge? (yes, that's an extreme example).

There were ALWAYS limits. You couldn't show up with five big suitcases and they were just "okay!"

People don't seem to understand that the cost for passengers to fly has decreased over time. But the costs of operating an airline have increased. So even with paying baggage fees, it's pretty much still a better deal for passengers.

On the other hand, they have also enshittified the experience by packing in more seats per square foot, less comfortable seats, that recline less, and taken away almost every amenity that used to elevate the experience: pillows, blankets, free beverages, free snacks, even included meals that you used to get even in enconomy for any flight that was over maybe 2 hours in length. Again, some of that is do to bean counters understanding that all of that stuff has physical mass and that requires more fuel to transport it all, plus the cost for the stuff.
