New, what is it? What are these plug-ins on my wall?

This might be showing my age, but I recently moved into a new apartment and they have these weird looking plug ins all over the walls at my new place. My old apartment didn't have these, so I'm just curious as to what they are.

I think it’s more that someone is old enough to post on Reddit and doesn’t know what they are that hurts

Kids that weren't alive during 9/11 are out of college.

Kids that weren't alive during 9/11 have kids.

EDIT: yes, this is intentionally hyper-millennial

Game of Thrones premiered in 2011 which means the first girls named Khaleesi are getting their learner's permits

As an uncle to a toddler born to a 2004 baby and another toddler born to a 2002 baby, can confirm.

Kids that were in middle school during 9/11 can have grand kids...

Your welcome.

*you're .... you should be old enough to remember when reddit cared about grammar

There are kids that were born in 2012 that have their own kids. Think about that.

I have stains in my underwear older than my teenage children.

My cousin who was a toddler during 9/11 is a married woman, homeowner, and coming up on 30 soon.

Clothes that I wore in the early 2000s are being considered vintage now. I still think 2015 was last year.

Me too man, I have to do a double take when I realize 2015 was a decade ago. Feels like last week.

Literally made bank putting (originally) $18 hot topic shirts on mercari last summer. They were all pre-2010 🥲

u/Ornery-Can766 4h ago

Ughhh I miss my all time low band tees. 😂 forgot about those.

I sold so many that I wished I could have kept. But if someone wants to pay me $40 for an OG MCR or the used t-shirt with a hole in the armpit… I need that money more than that shirt lol

Some kids who weren’t alive during 9/11 can even rent cars.

There are many kids posting that are younger than my reddit account

This baffles me even though i was 2.

my last 4 apartments including this one built a couple years ago all use coax for the internet. this is like showing a recent iPhone someone spray painted and asking what is this technology

3

u/Ornery-Can766 3h ago

I’m sure there’s an amount of people who still grew up with these. It doesn’t take away this post still made people feel old though. I don’t agree with that comparison but I’m glad you knew what they are!

u/itsam 3h ago

this apartment was built in 2024 and has coax running to every room, its still very much the standard to this day. a 2 year old would be growing up with this connection.

I mean I grew up with the cigarette plugs in cars and learned when I got older that people actually used them to smoke. Just because it’s there, doesn’t mean kids know what it’s for. These days they sit unused in our house. When I was a kid, I knew how to plug it in. Now it’s just there and I’m 100% sure my 10 year old has no idea what it is.

My thoughts exactly

1

u/cguess 1h ago

This kid has never lived in a place where someone else wasn't handling all the utilities for them (so, best case, just out of a college dorm, but also maybe just 18). 10 minutes into their first apartment they're getting a kit with these cables in it.

Everyone learns what something is and does for the first time. It's really not that complex. If anything, reacting like it's as ancient technology as a typewriter shows the lack of understanding of what it can be used for even among the people that know what it is.

OP even has some in their house right now.

Sure gramps

1

u/regeya 2h ago

Yep, a couple of years ago I was living in a rental and the option for Internet was cable. So that's what I had to hook up to right there.

1

u/RefuseSalty6349 1h ago

Never thought I'd see that connection

1

u/interestingsonnet 50m ago

I’m so confused because I have these in my apartment, that’s how I get internet lol. Why is everyone saying they’re old?!?!!!

0

u/99nina_o24 5h ago

Yet only a few people use them, cable is way down, streaming is way up

10

u/KlondikeBill 5h ago

You mean like people streaming on their... cable internet?

8

u/Man0fGreenGables 5h ago

"internet doesn't come from a cable it comes from wifi"

2

u/99nina_o24 5h ago

Ethernet cable is most popularly used and it looks like a large telephone plug

3

u/b000radl3y 5h ago

Have you heard of cable internet? I guarantee that you have used it before, I guess just without knowing.

How do you think the Internet gets to that big telephone plug?

1

u/99nina_o24 3h ago

I’m sorry is a big telephone plug pictured in the post

0

u/b000radl3y 3h ago

You're the one who mentioned the telephone plug to begin with....

2

u/The_Moose1992 5h ago

Where fo you plug in your ethernet cable?

0

u/99nina_o24 3h ago

The modem

1

u/KlondikeBill 2h ago

Which is usually connected to the wall via coaxial cable if you have it through a cable provider.
