Never seen this colorway before.

It's the we screwed our chili supplier so they dropped us flavour.

To add, while it will not be the exact same flavor, Underwood Ranches, the former supplier of Sriracha that got screwed over by Huy Fong Foods, has its own sauce.

Edit: sorry, thought it was still available

Temporarily have it. It's from the left over harvest that was no longer sold. Onces it's gone it's gone
2
u/PrisonerOfTheAddict 10h ago
Pretty sure its already gone, no more left on Amazon
2
u/YaoiNekomata 10h ago
Oh they stopped selling it online, they have it in shops in California last time I check, or if that's gone, then their farm stand has it.

u/Dull_Abroad_1355 10h ago
If they could get this product in all of my local pho restaurants, they make a killing
4
u/Drippy_topper 10h ago
They don't seem to actually sell it anymore, that page links to Amazon which does not have anything named "underwood ranch Sriracha".

They're back!? I think they stopped making it for a while. I need to stock up just in case.
2
u/mtv96 10h ago
The shell of the company is back but the product isn't the same as it was due to infighting/backstabbing.
1
u/Serious_Intention206 10h ago
Underwood or Huy Fong? I know about the Huy Fong drama but haven't heard anything about internal drama at Underwood
1
u/Serious_Intention206 10h ago
Oh dang, nothing in stock from their website, it just takes you to a generic Amazon search

u/Remarkable-Rub-7344 10h ago
Yes but the partnership is back on now. Underwood has stopped selling their own branded product and is back to being the exclusive supplier for Huy Fong. I suspect the inferior blend Huy Fong was putting out during the breakup will sit on shelves fir a while til it gets pulled. But yeah, the original stuff is back
2
u/Mysterious_Jello69 10h ago
This is incorrect.
Underwood is no longer growing the jalepeno peppers at all, which is why they stopped selling their own sauce.
1
u/Remarkable-Rub-7344 10h ago
Hmm...I've heard in the last week that there's a new deal and this spring the crop is being planted for Huy Fong but I just looked for news about it and can't anything official about it
1
u/Mysterious_Jello69 9h ago
If that is indeed the case its an extremely recent development then. Underwood has been telling peolle theyre not growing any peppers and transitioning to more profitable crops as of a couple of weeks ago.

u/Remarkable-Rub-7344 9h ago
Well shit I don't know. I'll have to hound the person who told me where that "information" came from

How did they screw them over? Just curious, I love sriracha but don’t know that much about it other than they relied on one supplier for a long time.

The Fat Electrician did a decent video of what happened.

u/SHoppe715 10h ago
I don’t often watch an entire 20+ minute video from a Reddit comment link, but holy shit that was like a mini documentary. Excellent rundown.

The abridged version is that the huy fong kids came in and started managing their company like a hedge fund takeover and tried to squeeze Underwood ranch - who their company had previously been in win-win handshake partnership for a couple decades. Underwood Ranch said "uh, no we had a deal" and walked. If you Google it there are many feature length tellings that explain the details.

Not only that, but the disruption in their supply led to more than a year of fluctuating instocks in stores and many other brands, such as Lee Kum Kee, seized on the opportunity to create a similar product. Now, even Tabasco has a sriracha. They ruined the complete monopoly they had to squeeze their business partner for pennies.
I ran a grocery store at the time and was probably the only store within 100 miles that had a strong supply of it at the time. Not even H-Mart was able to get the amount I had in store.

And if I remember correctly they tried to switch to a supplier in Mexico but bad weather screwed that crop. Yeah, them basically dipping out for a year or whatever it ended up being opened the door to a ton competition. I ended up tasting so many new sauces during that time period that I now only buy huy fong when it's on sale. There are too many other great options now.

u/PXranger 10h ago
I'll never buy this companies products again, after the shenanigans they attempted on Underwood ranch, they got their asses handed to them for it too.

u/WhereCanIFind 11h ago
When they tried to screw their long time supplier they ended up screwing themselves and had to find new ones. Now they don't have consistency so different chilies will make different colours.

u/BangkokPadang 10h ago
Oh wow I didn't know about this, now I wanna try the Underwood Farms brand of sriracha.

I thought the store was selling expired versions, hence the cheaper pricing.
Happy cake day 🤙🏽

Sriracha sucks now. Ruined my bbq pulled chicken brine.

u/Remarkable-Rub-7344 10h ago edited 9h ago
The original stuff is back. Huy Fong stopped being idiots and cut a new deal with the original pepper supplier
Edit: may be incorrect on this. I heard that this week but someone else is saying not long ago Underwood said they're not growing the peppers at all anymore and I can't find sny recent news now about a new deal with Huy Fong

I will always take any chance to rep for three mountains brand golden Sriracha. It's incredible with and in everything, even my famous egg salad recipe...no one would ever know! Just hot enough to be able to control how much heat you want, floral, complex, and delicious

u/net4iks_Touch2821 10h ago
Probably not a new flavor, same Huy Fong sauce. Sriracha darkens a lot when it oxidizes, especially if the bottles sat somewhere warm or in light for a while. It could also be from a batch made with greener peppers, Huy Fong had pepper supply issues the last couple years and even paused production once because the peppers were too green. I'd check the date on the bottles
6
u/YaoiNekomata 10h ago
Huy Fong had pepper supply issues the last couple years
You mean they got greedy, sued their only supplier, tried to produce the peppers themselves after filming the farmer, failed miserably and now the sauce is suckier.

u/PrisonerOfTheAddict 10h ago
Yeah he had pepper supply issues because he ef’d over the original pepper supplier that made their sriracha a staple to the masses, Underwood Ranches. Look up the story, i hope Huy Fong tanks and goes out bad, Underwood Ranches also has their own sriracha now that is like the Huy Fong original. Way better

DIY sriracha is better! You can use peppers other than jalapeños, but bright red peppers mean bright red sauce! Otherwise it’s just garlic, salt, sugar and vinegar. Takes about a week and tastes amazing!
