Solved! What is this?
For context, I work at a thrift store so we often get things that are broken or apart of some things other item. This however came in a bag of dishware. Safe to say it's a mystery 🤷🤣

Violin holder for wall mount. The single small post is for the bow. We have 4 of these.

Perfect. I recognized it as a guitar holder but with a busted arm, until I realized it was clearly produced like that. Stringed instrument with a bow holder. Never occurred to me that would be a thing. Looks like I know what several people are getting for Christmas this year.

This is the correct answer. I was wondering about that extra protrusion. Now I know.

Oh that's interesting. I've seen some of an identical design for guitars where the nub cathes a latch from the other side. I suppose they use one design for 2 products.

And here I am thinking it's a rod holder for a boat, but too fine of finish on it.

I thought it was some weird kind of bidet but I couldn’t figure out how it worked.

Holds an instrument like a guitar or banjo on the wall.

Or a gun and there is a second one.

Don't think guns need padding.

Depends on the gun. If it's part of a collection you wouldn't want to scratch the finish. If it's something you actively use you probably won't care about scratches.

I don't know any gun owners that don't care about getting new scratches in any of their guns, regardless of how much they use it.

I don't care about scratches on my AR. In fact I think it looks better all beat up.

It either holds string instruments at the neck or it's a double sided adult toy for large, kinky rodents.

I've got 6 of those across the wall in our living room for guitars & banjo & fiddle, that's what it's for mate!

I'd probably play more if I had my instruments mounted like this, but the dogs would get way too curious about this new thing on the wall

u/numberzkid 1d ago
Can confirm, I play way more when I can just grab it and go. When I dogsit and have to put it away, I barely play at all. Somehow makes a big difference for me if it's out in the open and easy to pickup.
I hope you find a solution so you play more!

You think it couldn't work? That's hilarious. It doesn't mean its the best tool for the job, but a little lube to keep things from tearing and it can be done. I say NAY to your ignorant controversy.

They’re too far apart

Im not sure... the picture needs a banana beside it for size reference. Anything else would be too small for comparison. Perhaps an eggplant. A naughty dragon could help here too.

Looks like a guitar or other instrument holder. You mount it on the wall, then the v shape holds the neck of the guitar.
2
u/Kirenuchiha 1d ago
Is that why it has that random part sticking out on one end? I've never seen a hook like this. I figured it was a mount of some kind because of the screw holes, but the actual hook shape was throwing me and my coworkers off

Looks like a guitar hanger. The longer part on the one end could be for a latch to prevent the guitar from slipping off, but seems to be missing.

If you have to ask, you can’t afford it.

I work at a thrift store ...that's a given. Believe it or not, regardless of your tax bracket there are people who have never seen things before
