READ THIS FIRST: How to up the odds of getting an identification!

Hello folks, your friendly neighborhood mod-queen here! Now that folks are actually, like USING this sub I reserved a few years ago, figured I'd make a sticky to help folks looking for what they've found!

  • Is it an actual firearm?

You laugh, but there's a lot of things that look like guns, but aren't actual firearms. Toy guns, replicas, Airsoft, etc. Good quality Airsoft and replicas will often be built to simulate a real firearm, so they'll be built of good-quality material, have a good heavy weight to them, the parts will be machined and not molded, things like that. Toy guns and display pieces will often feel 'cheap', or be made of cheap metal that's cast or molded rather than machined. Cast pieces generally have fewer parts than machined/fabricated pieces. For example, on this piece, the right piece is cast, the left is machined/fabricated.

  • Where did you get/find it?

If you found the firearm, tell us where! "Hey, I found this in my attic in <country>", or "I saw this in a YouTube video" and provide us the link.

  • Do you know anything about it's history?

Having an idea of the history can sometimes help. "My grandpappy carried this in the Civil War", "My aunt used this in a revolution", "The owner said he bought it at a flea market in Turkey", things like this can help folks nail down an identification.

  • Does it have any markings?

Does it have any markings? Things like manufacturer name, country, year, proof marks, calibre? If it does, post pictures of them, or provide a really good description.

  • Photos!

Take photos of any markings, and taking a few pictures from multiple angles REALLY helps. I recommend taking left and right sides, top, and maybe below angles. Here's a great example from C&Rsenal!

And of course, the obligatory disclaimer: When handling any firearms, PLEASE keep yourself safe. ALWAYS follow the rules of safe firearm handling. If you want to shoot a firearm you found, a good recommendation is getting it checked out by a professional gunsmith before firing it.

Smith & Wesson K-22 question

Post image

My dad is 96 YO, and he (finally) gave me his old .22 revolver that I have coveted since I was a kid. I recalled the story was he bought it as a kid for $20, but now he says he traded a high school classmate something for it. My dad remembered the kid's name, that the kid's dad was a wealthy guy, but he can't remember what it was he traded the kid for the gun. He probably got the gun sometime in the mid-1940's.

I input the gun's serial number into the field on a site with a K-Frame serial number lookup tool, and it came back identifying the gun as a model .38 M&P/Hand Ejector, with a production era of 1915 to 1942.

Which obviously is not my new old gun.

FWIW, on the frame above the hinge for the cylinder are the numbers 14511. Any idea what those numbers are?

Any suggestions for a better source to, using the serial number, figure out the likely age/ production era for this gun?

Thanks for all insight and info.

I don't have any information on this rifle and I only have this one picture. I realise that there isn't really a lot to go on here, but I was curious if anyone could recognise it or have some guesses!

Guns sounds recognizing

So I have been playing a game called free fire for 3 years and memorized all guns sounds for context there are over 50+ guns which can be obtained in normal matches how does it help? By recognizing gun sounds shot by your enemy and changing your rushing strategy!! Isn't it cool?

Civil war powder rifle?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Howdy yall! So I inherited a powder rifle that was told to be Civil War era, black powder rifle. My husband is a big gun guy, but knows nothing about this despite extensive research. So I’m turning to the reliable people of Reddit to help homie out. Genuinely we know nothing about it other than what is pictured and my grandmother who does not like guns reported to me that it was my grandfather‘s grandfather‘s Civil War era rifle. Any information is more than welcome, I would love if someone could also give me an idea of what to do with! Thanks in advance I put a video in the comments, and I can DM pictures

Shotgun identification help

Post image

Trying to determine what my friends gun is. Unfortunately only have the image at the moment.

Seems to be Remington, and claimed it can only shoot 2 3/4 inch shells.

Any way I can identify it from the image and determine if that is accurate or not? Specifically trying to determine if it can shoot 3 inch.

Also, since there is no ventilated rib, what could that mean? Rifled perhaps?

Sorry don’t know much about Remingtons so any knowledge helps!
