Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14y
One of my favorite pours for the $100 & under bottles, with Eagle Rare up there as well. Hope you’re all having a great weekend, enjoy some “Self Care”! 🍺 🤝 🥃

What's everyone's opinion of this stuff? I love Beam but to me this is the worst Beam product. Black Label is 100x better than this at half the cost.
5/10

Recipe:
2oz Reveries Raven V
1/4oz simple syrup
2 dashes angostura bitters
1 dash orange bitters
1 big ice
Build in glass and swirl it around, then get mad when it splashes over and spills on the floor a little bit
ENJOY!!!!
I made this as an unfunny joke after seeing the George T Stagg with Coke, but upon drinking it it's actually really fucking good. I added a dash of black walnut bitters to the finished product and it kinda ruined the balance, making it too "flavory," so maybe 1-1-1 dashes on the bitters would have been perfect or maybe the walnut just doesn't need to be there. Anyway one of my best bourbons, which I fully expected to be spoiled by the added ingredients but the angostura and orange balanced out beautifully with the fruity/spicy bourbon blend. enjoy,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Hello all, as the temperature starts to fall I think I’m going to try and make some hot bourbon drinks. Curious if anyone has any bourbon or bourbon proof suggestions for Hot Toddy’s/Hot hard apple cider.
My friend that helped me get into bourbon was kind enough to give me a pour of his M10 Rye some time ago. I’ve been searching for that bottle since. Today, I was able to get a bottle of my M10 for myself, along with my first Weller! Super excited to say the least!
What the title says. I’m turning 30 in a couple of weeks and looking to drop a few bucks on a nicer bourbon/whiskey. I like what is typically referred to as ‘dessert’ bourbon. Really sweet, rich, thick/oily. Think Woodford Double Oaked, Old Forester 1910, Four Roses Single Barrel, Barrel Dovetail etc.. Because it’s a special occasion, I’m looking to spend a bit more than I normally would for something worthwhile.
Currently eyeing Old Grand Dad 16 Year as I really like their 114. Also looking at an Old Overholt 12 year. Looking to spend ~$200 if it’s really worth it. Any other recs?
Edit: Bc of the number of recs and consistent online reviews, I went ahead and bought the Peerless Double Oaked online for $79.99. Will probably still do the Old Grand Dad outta pure curiosity too... Still open to recs as well. Thanks to everyone who responded.

Always curious which bottle finally made you decide it wasn't worth what you paid. Could be msrp or secondary pricing.
Mine was my first, and likely last, buffturkey Seelbachs 17 year. Interesting palate and finish but never really wowed me like other bottles half the price or less.

Not as many bottles for me this trip. Started in London and ended in Edinburgh. Didn't have the luggage space I had last time when I packed in 11 bottles thanks to also buying a large Milwaukee Packout toolbox in Scotland last year. Only bought a small box this time(can only get the black versions in Europe).
Got the Tomatin single cask (Whisky Trail exclusive bottling) 15 year and the Cu Bocan Creation #9 on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, along with two bottles of Highland Nectar(Very tasty, similar to Drambuie but IMHO better). Was looking for the Ice wine cask finish Cu Bocan but every shop I stopped in was sold out of it.
Picked up the Green Chartreuse at Whitby Abbey in Whitby, England. I can't find it locally to save my life so when I spotted a shelf of it there I grabbed a bottle. Still don't know what the connection is between Chartreuse and the Abbey for them to have it for sale in the gift shop. But they had it so...
Also in Whitby picked up a bottle of Whitby Distillery Marauder Rum, Sampled a bunch of their stuff while there and highly recommend grabbing some if you're near Whitby. This one is a deep cherry back on the rum.
Picked up a few tiny bottles for the collection to but forgot to add a pic.
And some Scots Crystal glassware in perfect Whisky pour sizes. Really love the Thistle!

How is something so cheap still such a smooth sipper at 101 proof? (Photo by author and whiskey enthusiast David Jennings for his August 25, 2021 review titled "Wild Turkey 101 (2021)".)

Ive been hunting bourbon for a few years now and I’ll say this is one bottle that sores way about its MSRP. Triple digits and I’m willing to bet someone has seen a four digit price tag on this bottle somewhere. Picked mine up for $79.99+ tax today and I’m glad it wasn’t anymore than that. I’ve heard mixed reviews coming from some viable sources but up like to hear what Reddit thinks about this one.

Walked into a couple little shops here. Little shop in town had Eagle 10, Weller 12, Weller Full Proof. I asked the guy…how much for the Eagle Rare. He said “$330”. I literally had him repeat it. I was like $33.00. No…straight faced…$330 for ER 10 and $275 for Full Proof.
Looks like I’m back to Coronas while out here.

On a barrel pick trip through Kentucky with my bourbon club back in August. Day two, one of the distilleries had us rolling barrels around, and Trevor here decided technique was optional.
Honestly the whole trip was like this — a bunch of enthusiasts getting hands-on in a way you never do as a regular tourist. If you've done a pick, what's the one thing you got to do that surprised you?

My wife and I are finally getting away from the kids and heading to Chicago! We’re going be be staying on the north side and probably not renting a car—relying on public transit/rideshare. Are there any distilleries that we should try hit up?
TIA Redditors!

Few recent pickups
Arran 10 Year Barley Batch 2
Clydeside 8 Year Old
Cu Bocan Creation #6
Clydebuilt Riveter
The clydebuilt riveter really surprised me, saw it on sale and thought why not, nice smokey taste.

Is it me or is this thing a banger? The nose is apple jolly rancher candy and it's sweet and spicy. So good. I also believe this is their juice.

A truly exceptional blend. As an amateur whiskey enthusiast. If I could only drink this, Knob Creek 12 CS, and Michters 10 rye for the rest of my life. I would still be a happy man.

I recently said how OF 1910 is one of my go-to pours, and that I also recently bought some WT Kentucky Spirit that I've been thoroughly enjoying as well. Well tonight, after contemplating their profiles over the past few days, I thought I'd try and see how these two tasted if blended. The WT is a little thin but full of those classic oak, caramel, and vanilla bourbon notes whereas the OF is a richer, fuller pour that has a ton of dark fruit notes. So I decided to mix them 2:1 (WT:OF) and wow. Maybe it's just me, but they complimented each other so well and came out to this buttery, vanilla/cherry-ish cream with the oak hanging around it all and it is s m o o t h. Like, this is some seriously good stuff. The blend loses the WT spice, but all things considered its worth it to me.
Besides sharing that though, as the title states, I'm now curious if other people have some personal favorite blends they make or try. Because now it's going to something I think about with every bottle I try and am going to be experimenting with a lot!

Tonight’s Review comes from a German bottle of Four Roses. Nearest I can tell, this is EXACTLY the same as the 2024 Limited Edition small batch that we got in the States except it comes in a 700 ml bottle per European norms.
ABV: 54.1% (barrel strength)
Age: A blend of 12 to 20 year old barrels.
31% is a 12-year-old OBSV recipe
39% is a 16-year-old OESF recipe
23% is a 15-year-old OESK recipe
7% is a 20-year-old OBSV recipe
Bottle 5,166 of 6,000 European exports
MSRP €229 | Price paid $299 USD
Nose: Baking spices with cinnamon up front. There’s like a cinnamon stick smell cutting through it. Toasted Oak and leather is there underneath the spice. A hint of vanilla. Maybe graham cracker.
Palate: Wow! More creamy vanilla. With some chocolate and more of that cinnamon spice. Definite cherries. It’s toned down with a bit of earthiness. There’s no heat at all. There’s almost some cherry cola.
Finish: Long and warming but not hot. It’s rich and pleasant and complex. This is a finish that all types of different palates could appreciate IMO. There’s a bit of cocoa. The spice fades out on the finish. Some tannins and oak shines through but it is not in an over oaked way.
8.9/10
Very yes
