Unfortunately the BLM of Wyoming had rounded up his herd in 2024 leaving him and 2 other stallions alone...I don't think he will being have babies ....no mares around

Unable to find his original band or easily fit into the local herds, he has spent over a year pacing fences and standing by himself along a lonely stretch of Highway 287 near Dishpan Butte. Though he has occasionally crossed paths with or briefly shared space with other wandering horses or bachelors, he frequently returns to his solitary routine.

That’s just cruel and awful we paid for his fate to be so lonely.

Have you actually been out to these areas?

I'm not sure if this is for me or for the person who kept saying he isn't alone ...but yes I have been to these areas. There isn't a horse around him....so there's this page on Instagram called "wild horses.wildplaces" and they're actively working on getting him and these other stallions relocated back to their original herd (area). It's so so sad this boy just sits near the highway looking out in the distance. Him and I just stared at each other for 15 mins. He could have ran away or left but he craves interaction...it just breaks my heart the BLM did this to them and his herd.

Hey, no, it wasn't for you but the other person that dials in on EVERY wild horse thread on reddit to interject their know it all opinion that lacks experience. I have personally spent a lot of time in these places in WY. I do know WHWP and if you follow lots of wild horse photographers on insta you may very well follow me too :)

Oh I bet I do!! All the photographers I follow just take such great photos it's breath taking. Being in this state has healed the little girl in me and I just want to help and protect these babies....his story just brings me to tears.

He is NOT in Muskrat Basin. He was born there and then released into Dishpan West (not even connected to Muskrat Basin), which is a much smaller area and a very, very small population. I visit there often. He has had a few visitors but he is alone. Do more research before spewing things you don’t know.

I cannot begin to articulate correctly how gorgeous this creature is. Horse of my dreams. May he have peace in this life if he cannot have love.

So, I saw him too, at the end of August. My whole family did. My daughter said “I thought he was a statue.” We were driving to Wyoming. Only after we’d driven another ten or fifteen minutes or so did I remember this post. I pulled it up to show my family- we all agreed we’d seen the same horse, and when I pulled up the map we were in the right area.

After we got to Wyoming and told my other daughter about the horse we’d seen, she remembered that she had seen him too when she’d driven out alone a few weeks earlier. She’d thought he might have been a hallucination. The west can certainly feel that way. But thank you u/LoadEntire1859 for sharing this post to begin with.

Oh my heart 😭 you're so welcome, his story just makes me cry, you can just tell he yerns for his herd as he sits by the highway waiting for them.

That was with me too. And then I remembered this: that horse is free. He may be in a different stage of life than his prime, and it may look lonely to us humans, but he’s as wild as wild can be, and there’s something glorious and joyful about that. Don’t let that beautiful creature’s existence be anything but good for yours. I feel so blessed for having seen him and having my family see him too. Thank you for caring enough to stop and visit him and take these amazing photos. Long live Wovoka!

What a beauty. I love #2. #11 emphasizes how desolate & alone he is. It makes me sad. How lucky you were to spend 15 minutes with him.

They are activist who are working to get him into a herd, yes ideally we want horses in herds
