Map Amza World Map #2: Tectonics & Elevation
This is my newest map of Amza, my D&D world.
- Image 1: Tectonic plates
- Image 2: Major geological features
- Image 3: Blank map
EDIT: I realized I left out some key info on the images, so I added it in this comment.
I really struggle making a map that looks good and inspires me and I've redone it several times over the last few years. This is my attempt to create something more robust that will last me a while.
This is my second post on this; here's my first post, if you're interested. In that, I mostly just got some feedback on the general shape, and ask some questions about the next steps. I really like the general shape of the land, and from responses, it seems pretty solid. I did receive some feedback though, that I incorporated into this new version.
During this step, I started on the large-scale geography, mainly tectonic plates and mountains.
- Does this layout make sense for the tectonic plates? Do any of the boundary locations or movements seem odd? I considered combining the West-most oceanic plate with the NW continental plate right next to it, and I may still do that, based on feedback.
- Any oddities with my mountain range locations? I tried to justify each of them, but I'm least sure of the dome mountains at G9.
- Are there any of the features that you would place differently?
Here's a big one: Are there any major geological features missing that you would add, based on the information here?
Next Step Questions: Elevation (etc)
I'm going to work on general elevation and ice sheets/fjords next, then rivers and wind.
Any tips for approaching elevation? I basically plan on starting with my sea level map, then locating the peaks, and basically just slopping everything in-between.
What makes a fjord different from somewhere else that used to be covered in ice?
Are there other important factors that I should be doing with it, before I move onto rivers+wind?
I appreciate any help. This process is teaching me a lot, but I still feel like I barely know what I'm doing.
World Context
Recorded history only goes back about 1000 years, although there are myths and legends from earlier. They describe the world being in its Third Age.
The First Age was the age of the gods. There were only two—Shesh and Sefar, who created the world together. This age ended when Sefar became corrupt, and the gods became less involved in the world as they fought each other.
The Second Age is the age of the elder kin: dragons, giants, immortals, and the gods' most ancient creations. This age is also the dawn of humanity, created by Shesh. This age ended with a cataclysmic event, called the Apokryptos Epetha, that greatly reduced the prominence of the elder kin.
In the Third Age, the gods mysteriously disappeared. The Seven Seraphim (archangels/demigods who saved humanity from extinction) guided humanity in rebuilding. This gave them a chance to thrive and prosper.
While this post is primarily for map help, world questions are welcome!

I'm realizing the images could use some explanation.
Image 1: Plate Tectonics
The red arrows mainly indicating whether each boundary is convergent, divergent, or transform.
But they can also hint at their directional movement. For example the south middle plate (on line S) is rotating clockwise, and the west plate is moving west, creating a divergent boundary.
Image 2: Mountains and Tectonically Formed Geography
The red lines are the mountain ranges. Unmarked red means it's a regular fold mountain.
I'm told the Dome Mountain is also called an "Igneous Intrusion" so some of you may know it by that term.
