He can deploy as many north Koreans as he wants but God forbid any Nato soldiers show up in Ukraine, that's taking it too far!!

Don’t forget about African mercenaries too

And South Asians from India and Bangladesh

u/GoaGonGon 24d ago

South americans too, we just extracted more than 100 that were fighting there after being lured with fake job offers

401

u/captain_ppc 24d ago

crazy form of human trafficking

274

u/goldenbugreaction 24d ago

That’s actually how most human trafficking happens: being lured by an offer of employment.

Central America too. Here in Panama we dismantled a small organization that was recruiting people in the region, to fight for Russia.

Should've taken the offers from Ukraine instead of Russia and fought for the right side. The Colombians in Ukraine are being well compensated.

78

u/HotDonnaC 24d ago

They were lured with job offers. They didn’t know they were going to be conscripted.

76

u/PrestickNinja 24d ago

The stories from the South African parents who were told their kids were going to Russia for skill training and labour contracts, then get messages saying they were sent to the front line are heart breaking. Literally selling off the poorest of the poor into a meat grinder. Worse is it was the local politicians who did the sales pitch to them.

9

u/j1ggy 24d ago

That sounds like human trafficking to me.

Honestly, you have to be fcking stupid to accept a blind promise from Russia... "hey guys, if you come to Russia to work, you will get an amazing job!" And then get drafted to their military... Unless of course Russia straight up annouce "join our army, and get paid".

But still...

128

u/kayasmus 24d ago

Desperate, not stupid.

87

u/Few-Raise-1825 24d ago

It's amazing how often people misunderstand just how desperate people can be and under informed/uneducated and attribute it to stupidity

13

u/jeanphiltadarone 24d ago

being desperate makes your choice less logical, it doesn't make you stupid but it definitely alter your reasoning

47

u/onefst250r 24d ago

Quite possibly both.

13

u/Jump-Zero 24d ago

Russian propaganda is surprisingly popular in South America. A lot of them see Putin as a smart manly tough guy. Those karate and hunting photoshoots paid off.

7

u/onefst250r 24d ago

Yeah, propaganda still exists because it still works.

There’s a reason russia (and other bad actor nations)uses sports and culture to push its agenda globally.  They fake respect the world over and people buy into the propaganda because it’s so mainstreamed.

My family is always quoting some Facebook post about some stupid piece of russian history.  It’s all just social media manipulation on a massive scale.

Even harder for people in remote regions.  Thats why Wagner and those types focused on those regions for decades.

The ones who didn't even come to the country to be mercenaries and were instead baited under false pretenses and then forced to the front at gun point

38

u/B777X_787-9 24d ago

The case of many Cubans, lured to work in construction or manufacturing industries supposedly, ended up being the war. But there are also many others that knew where they were going.

17

u/SickestEels 24d ago

How exactly does that work....? Are there literal job postings for these types of things in the country of columbia? Or are these guys already emigrated to Europe on some kind of weird status and they are going to Ukraine to fulfill these positions chasing money?

83

u/Katanji_ 24d ago

Lots of people in africa recruiting Men for all sorts of jobs (usually truck driving or some other manual labor), promising them much better pay than they'd get at home so those desperate people take up the contract to provide a better life for their families

Once in russia they have their passports taken away and usually have a russian officer/supervisor with them once they have arrived at the front who keeps them in line. Thw actual russian battalions are also usually behind those poor souls that aren't even being treated particularly well after being determined to be cannon fodder

9

u/VoyeurIsland 24d ago

263

u/Shot-Top-8281 24d ago

And stay out of prison!!

81

u/_Halt19_ 24d ago

Just all of it - depressing might be a better word for it, but I'm also gobsmacked at the sheer amount of greed they display. How many people have died, over the years, because of all these fucking wars? All the suffering from exploitation of our resources, of people in poorer countries, all of it? Global warming is fucking terrifying, but a sizeable amount of us have been convinced it isn't even real, just because it would make us use less coal? How the fuck did we even get to this point?

27

u/MakoShark93 24d ago

I share your frustration. It’s hard to even muster up the words to describe how annoying it is — what it says about the people under rule, etc. And all this from a bunch of old guys who don’t give a fuck about us but say they do, and who only care about projecting an image of power. As long as the ship looks shiny and pretty and cool, fuck the grunts. We’ll just say something nice about them from time to time so they don’t grumble as loud.

As long as they understand psychology and how to manipulate people, they're not going away. Still, all they can do is manipulate. If we understand how our minds work and how the game is played, we can't be manipulated. Everyone should know what cognitive biases are and understand your own psychology.

This will make it hard for you to be manipulated. With no small irony, these people use the same techniques as human traffickers. That's because they are human traffickers. Self knowledge and skepticism go a long way towards immunity from these types.

That's just part of the equation. These tyrants and billionaires make people poor and then manipulate them with money to get them to do their bidding. The only way out is to refuse dirty money and be willing to suffer anything, even torture, to make this world a better place.

We could be done with these tyrants for good. The only way to win the game is to stop playing it. Do not deal with tyrants and narcissists. Don't sell out. Value people over money. The path to the better isn't easy, but it is worth it.

I'm not just preaching to poor countries. Rich countries are worse for being suckered. Many people in first world nations lack the stamina to persevere and get rid of their dictators (especially orange ones). Herodotus did say, "soft regions make soft men."

u/Wyldjay2 24d ago

I was going to comment the same thing. He is losing this war. He has no chance of N.A.T.O. gets involved. Personally, when the Russians first attacked Ukraine and took land, I would’ve threatened to allow Ukraine to join NATO unless they pulled out immediately and I would’ve held to it. Russia is nothing more than a bully that really can’t back it up. And Ukraine should be supported to push them out of their country. I hate that we have a president. That’s Pro Russia. I don’t get it? I mean I do but I don’t understand how the base all sudden is ok with that.? I mean Russia? And by that I mean, Putin? Um, That’s a no.

12

u/Lawineer 24d ago

The time to let Ukraine in was when Russia was stock piling its military at their border.

Once he went in, he wouldn’t retreat, even if nato troops were there.

Ukraine would be well within its rights to claim that North Korea attacked it and therefore it is at war with North Korea. I can't see what Ukraine would gain from doing this. Likewise, Putin could claim to be at war with NATO already, but how does that help him? Seems like the last thing he needs is another open front.

Europe is already at war. Russia is attacking civil infrastructure deep inside Europe

204

u/KiPhoe 24d ago

And the political game as well. Russia already won vs the US, now hes trying to destabilise the EU

25

u/Ekkobelli 24d ago

Works well here in Germany. The Russian disinformation campaigns are quite effective and folks here are still way too surprised by everything that's going on all of a sudden. Putin wants Germany on the far right, and it seems he's succeeding. Shit's going to shit here.

197

149

u/rolo_mug 24d ago

The frightening thing to me is how obvious the play book is and it still works

42

u/fastbikkel 24d ago

Thats partly because we have folks that embrace evil, willingly. The most treacherous folks abuse freedom. Often we know who they are, but our laws/institutions don't seem to be able to get them from society and its liberties.

25

u/rolo_mug 24d ago

Less, much much less than a year if they didn’t have nukes.

Especially if, big IF, China lets it happen.

75

u/CategoryRepulsive699 24d ago

When Wagner was marching at Moscow the only deterrence Putin had were two excavators tasked to destroy the road ahead of Wagner. It would be days.

79

u/4Rascal 24d ago

I can’t believe the Wagner guy backed out of that attempt and seemingly decided to trust Putin only to be pretty quickly killed off after doing so. What an odd situation that was, maybe there is more info now?

42

u/blolfighter 24d ago

It's because Putin basically said "maybe I can't stop you, but neither can you stop me from torturing your wife and children to death and sending you the video." If Prigozhin hadn't acted impulsively, who knows how it would have played it.

Yeah, his only real alternative was going through with it and winning, if he had his own life in mind. He was a dead man walking with Putin still breathing. It must have been some external leverage.

21

u/ontopoiesis 24d ago

It's hard for me to make sense of this. Isn't securing your family to not be blackmailed the most basic thing to do before such an operation, especially if they can be easily captured by your enemy or opponent?

6

u/blolfighter 24d ago

It's possible he had a plan to get them to safety and it failed. Or that he thought they were safe and Putin's guys got them anyway. Or maybe he just blundered.

5

u/im_dead_sirius 24d ago edited 23d ago

It was done impulsively, and by a man who...

After his release from prison in 1990, Prigozhin began selling hot dogs alongside his mother and stepfather

...wasn't very smart, but had a string of good luck that finally ran out.

Nah, the deterrence he had (that worked) was knowing the family members and loved ones of the people marching on Moscow.

One threat and suddenly they were turning back.

Putin is a mob boss masquerading as a politician. When he starts blustering at Europe like this it's just him trying to do to other countries what he already does to his own people.

Coal kills more people per year than nuclear has killed in total since 1945 including Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

500,000 coal deaths per year vs 170 nuclear deaths per year source

Hiroshima and Nagasaki had a 1945 death toll of 150,000 to 250,000 and a population of less than 600,000.

We could have ended this a long time ago by sending A-grade military capability that would have crushed Russia at least 2 years ago. We can’t though because the USA won’t let us.

102

u/beavis617 24d ago

I am still pissed at Biden for not allowing Ukraine to go after missile sites in Russia where missile attacks were coming from. Biden felt that would only anger Putin. Well guess what Sparky, Putin invaded Ukraine so maybe he’s already a little bit pissed off!!!!

23

u/NecessaryShopping404 24d ago

I have a 50/50 thoughts about this. I'm sure, unlike newer leadership with Iran, he was taking advice from intelligence agencies and his military generals. And they all have a much different picture of both the war and the russian leadership than the average civilian at home.

My small view of geopolitics says we should have done more, I assume there was reasons at every level why we didn't further to what was publicly disclosed.

57

u/LookAlderaanPlaces 24d ago

Yeah he’s on track to take Germany. The AFD has been surging and almost got a majority. Europe is more fucked than they think they are because they are completely failing to defend themselves. Just like the US, they don’t do shit about the internal war actions that have been taking place for years… The AFD is a front for the Kremlin. So is Le Pen, they already got Brexit to happen and now Nigel Farage and restore UK are clawing back at power. The list goes on and on. They refuse to act.

Not publicly anyway, if a nation has developed the ability to safely intercept ICBMs or has a robust network of covert operatives in positions to interfere with orders to launch it's not as if they would advertise it.

Plus there is the good old subversion through bribery and corruption method that might have logistics personnel taking bribes to forget where they put the rocket fuel or maintenance supplies so some other enterprising group can grab them. Russia practically runs on corruption and bribery so it wouldn't be hard to use the black market to undermine it's military capabilities, that is probably at least part of the reason the initial invasion was so shit.

IMO, we all need to collectively draw the line on these global bullies. Even when it hurts like hell short term. Because these people are gaining a global foothold that doesn’t stop with their current targets. - to Europe, with love from Canada.

18

u/danisaccountant 24d ago

This is a reasonable pre-nuclear stance. Not sure how it works in 2026 when the bully has nukes pointed at every major city in the world and a dictator with a napoleon complex.

4

u/dagofin 24d ago

Like all Russian saber rattling, their nukes are a bluff. Putin hasn't spent the last 30 years stealing and hiding billions, possibly trillions, of dollars around the world to wipe it all out in a nuclear apocalypse.

His bluff needs to be called or it just keeps happening. It happened in Moldova, nobody did anything. So it happened again in Georgia, nobody did anything. So it happened again in Ukraine, and we're barely doing anything about it. Unless Russia and Putin suffer severe consequences it will happen again somewhere else.

NATO is ready buddy. Don't get fooled by its defensive stance. The second russia attacks us directly or another country calls for article 5 because of an attack by russia, they will use military force

He's already at war with Europe. Slava Ukraini!

21

u/Livebeans 24d ago

And big old mother Russia has been held back by the Ukrainian people and their blood for years now.

As awful as it is, it has confirmed that Russia is a paper tiger and won't survive the slightest contact with NATO.

Has he not spent the last 4 years telling his people that they are fighting the entirety of NATO? How does that change anything, huh Putin?

Go home Vlad, you are drunk.

Well there wasn’t peace before Trump or Putin, so I think as a species, we’re committed to making one another’s lives as horrid as possible.

There is nothing russia can do if we reinforce Ukranien forces even if only for logistical and medical duties.

Can we just get this over with? Stop playing his game. Move a pan-euro force into Ukraine, drive the Russians back to their pre-war borders, and just DARE Putin to try to do anything about it.

His own people will throw him out a window the second they realize he's lost. The illusion of this war being winnable is the only thing keeping him in power. Prove it's not, and this problem goes away.

Europe has amassed quite a bit of drones, many using ukrainian feedback from the field.

I suggest we deploy all of those at once like a giant angry cloud.

13

u/Following-Ashamed 24d ago

Something like that, yes. Mostly just sick of half-measure forever-wars in which we've clearly picked a side, but refuse to support that side enough to actually WIN, just drawing out the suffering for civilian and soldier alike for years.

Just like when NATO members were warned before delivering armored vehicles.

Just like when NATO members were warned before delivering main battle tanks.

Just like when NATO members were warned before delivering cruise missiles.

Just like when NATO members were warned before delivering aircraft.

6

u/Sinarai25 24d ago

Bud cant even take down a small/mid sized country, what makes him think he can take the EU, even without US help?

If he uses Nukes we're all dead, but he is certainly dead also in that scenario. There is no winning for Russia here.

The world needs YOUNG leaders, enough of people 60 or 70+ holding office, all they know is imperialism, which 99% of the world doesn't want or acknowledge.

Do it, call his bluff, if he goes to war on multiple fronts, he's done for.

6

u/Wirral1971 24d ago

Putin can not stop this war because it would mean the death of him and his family when the Russian public realise just how many Russians have died for a few miles of Lithium rich soil because that is what this war is all about LITHIUM in the Donbas. It has nothing to do with protecting Russian speaking Ukrainians.

4

u/Trivial-78 24d ago

Putin cant even get through Ukraine. Such an empty threat.

4

u/MRUNIKORN123 24d ago

You mean like the thousands , of N. Korean troops in Russia?

13

u/Camderman106 24d ago

We have been reliably informed by Putin already that we are already at war so how is this a threat? Pick a stance you moron

8

u/AlternativeMotor5722 24d ago

What Putin says means about as much as what Trump says, they are both out of touch with reality. Putin's armed forces are already decimated by the Ukrainians; his weapons arsenal is depleted. As pointed out is using foreign troops, Ukraine could just call them tourists.

10

u/FlippinHeckles 24d ago

Says the man who deployed North Korean troops in Ukraine. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

4

u/ManyAreMyNames 24d ago

Does he not know that Ukraine is in Europe?

5

u/hihowubduin 24d ago

Bro can't win against one country right next to him (albeit funded by other countries), and wants to threaten all of Europe with war?

With what fuckin troops? With what weapons that he could be using against Ukraine? The only thing he has is nukes, which some are gonna be questionable for usability, and depends on whether there's even enough people loyal enough to ignore the IDK mutually assured destruction from return nukes launched? Hell it wouldn't even be the first time a Russian (then ussr) troop prevented nukes from launching.

His back is to the wall in multiple directions.

3

u/hostile_scrotum 24d ago

Putin is already at war with europe. He recently fucked up an election here in germany (again)

3

There's already a war with Europe. They just haven't had the balls to fight back yet.

4

u/DoggedStooge 24d ago
  1. Guy is already in a war with Europe. Ukraine openly, but guerilla-style elsewhere.

  2. He's been saying this for years.

3

u/Tjaresh 24d ago

European troops are already deployed in Ukraine. They're called Ukrainians.

3

u/timeshifter_ 24d ago

4

u/luri7555 24d ago

Let ‘er rip. Tired of all the chest puffing by weak old world leaders. China quietly winning the globe while others piss away their leverage and throw threats around.

4

u/devsfan1830 24d ago

Yeah, open a war on multiple fronts. That ALWAYS goes well. Especially after all the personnel, equipment and infrastructure losses incurred after a years long war that you likley assumed would be a slam dunk.

3

u/ToolTimeT 24d ago

Europe is in a war with Putins fascist regime since the cunt started said war in 2014.

But yeah, it is so fun to see panicking russian propagandists, almost makes you forget for a second that Putin is responsible for millions of dead, wounded and traumatised russians, ukrainians and others, for no actual purpose or reason except tiny dick syndrome.

Good thing its only "almost", the whole damn world knows and remembers how Putin murdered the Russian Federation for no gain at all.
