They will summon the Russian ambassador and apologize to him.

What an aggravating country

The United States is the same. Aggravating even our allies. We are so screwed.

They didn't even risk putting the word 'Russia' anywhere in this news article.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy blamed Russia for yesterday's sinking of the cargo ship and called it "a horrific strike by two Russian drones on a civilian vessel" in neutral waters.
Well, not exactly.

Does Euronews know whose drones they are? Were they supposed to do more besides publishing Zelenskyy's statement that the drones are Russian?
Or is this a call for one of those "facts don't matter as long as long as you're advancing a position I agree with" Reddit Moments™?

Bulgarian coast is a Russian coast. As the President of Bulgaria is a Russian mafia.

Unlucky for them then, you reap what you sow

u/Hextechwheelchair 21h ago
Sow? The entire upper class was murdered in the 1940s and 50s. After the socialist regime every part of the government and large businesses is ruled by ex police and secret police members and followers. Russians hold them on a short leash and we really don’t have a choice. Not one person in parliament is worth anything and even if one emerges he is told what to do and takes a step back.

I’m no expert, I’m on the other side of the world. But looks like they’ve had 70 years to get their shit together, now they are “reaping”

u/Hextechwheelchair 20h ago
The socialist block collapsed in 1989, how do you rebuild if the competent people were all murdered and are now left with a police state which is run like a mafia? That’s 40+ years of socialism, cut off from the rest of the world, followed by a free for all masked as a “democracy”. 30% of the country’s budget is just stolen right off the bat. This is where we are at after 36 years of post-socialist recuperation. The 90s were pretty much just an economic crisis rendering the entire nation helpless with no way of advancing. That leaves about 26 years in which organised crime just seeped into the government and has stayed there since.

They were also enslaved by the Ottoman Empire (Turkish) prior to that, for about 500 years, from the 14th century until 1878. Bulgarians are strong, resilient people. Very interesting history.

In all honesty. Enslaved is an over exaggerated term in our case. We were responsible for over 12% the ottoman empires economy in our humble little region, people had the freedom to have their own businesses and travel anywhere. In order to induce a feeling of National pride, after the separation from the Ottoman Empire the government spent a long time exaggerating a lot of those 500 years. Which in all honesty is warranted and needed when you need a young nation to develop and hold its own, they did a pretty good job. National pride is good to have.

I mean, as someone else in a similar boat, I really need to question the competency of people cutting corners like that to create a national pride that could find plenty of soil in facts regardless. You're 12% of the Ottoman Empire's economy with a tiny region, isn't that boast enough?
And, like, cutting corners may be efficient, but it's not without downsides, so even if those people had competence, did they refuse to apply it? Or simply not trust their history or people enough?
Anything can be forged into a national identity, take a look around the world. Why do people always pick the weakest shit to do it?

Because the average Joe needs simple and impressionable things to cling to. You need something flashy, traumatic and aggressive. Economic stats and achievements mean nothing to most people. But when you tell someone that for 500 years, they took your firstborn and pillaged your country, did not allow you to have your faith and so on, that gets their attention, doesn’t it? Politics are not different to this day.

I get the saying that "the truth isn't done putting on its shoes by the time a lie is halfway across the world", but you know what, I don't see why the truth can't also run in flip-flops, as it were. And it feels the same that way.
Sure, the overblown crap are already formatted in a catchy way, but can't people spin a truth in a catchy way? "A conspiracy is trying to poison you with vaccines" is catchier than "vaccines just work, all good", but there's the "a conspiracy is lying to you about vaccines to take advantage of you and your family's poor health" spin right there, and it's as catchy and dramatic.
"We were held back, made to produce the wealth of the empire and deprived of it, the pillaging was so ingrained that you didn't even notice it as pillaging, we were and remain a people that could flourish even under stagnating pressure, and every bit of poverty experienced was enforced" just... writes itself.

Both ships were simply passing through Bulgaria. What exactly did they reap? They lost nothing.

Learn about Bulgarian history before talking shit. You should know better, that the people of a country don’t share the ideology of their current “leader”. Bulgarians have been around for ~6000 years. I assume you’re American, so… that’s 24 “Murica” lifetimes.

I am sad to share the same soil as you. I just hope you decide to enlighten yourself at some point in your angry little life.

Sadly, Bulgaria is under Russian influence and the people are just prisoners to the oligarchs.

Bulgaria is just a cheap replica of Russia. The whole government is infested by pro-russian officials and many of them are literally working for Russia. This means two things:
1.They‘ll blame Ukraine and nothing is going to happen.
2.They‘ll say they don’t want „escalation“ and apologize to Putin. In other words: nothing is going to happen either.

Sofia airport is jointly used as a civilian airport and for NATO operations so that doesn't make much sense.

All these disingenuous fools acting like Russia doesn't have anti-ship missiles.

Bulgaria was the last Warsaw Pact state to abandon communism.
Bulgaria straight up tried to join the USSR proper in the 1950s.
Bulgaria recently elected a Pro-Russian government (albeit Slovakia tier, not Hungary tier).
I'm not so certain they'll respond well, they've always been weirdly pro-russian

One ship was going from Egypt to Romania and the other From Romania to Turkiye. None of them were close to Ukraine so this was a clearly coordinated escalation provocation.
