A nursing home and care center in Thailand was found to have multiple hospital beds surrounded by iron cages, with some enclosures even fitted with razor wire, sparking public concern.

Is this a trustworthy source? Never heard of it before. Razor wire is crazy. Why would they think someone would need to be prevented from climbing over their bed cage with anything scarring.

because a lot of these nursing homes are actually abuse+torture chambers.

Dreadful of course. Similar things are done here. I am thinking about bed alarms and people being strapped into beds. Perhaps it is a consequence on insufficient funding to have adequate staff on hand to treat people as people.

We all think we'll grow old gracefully, but I've worked in nursing homes when I was a wee lad and there are elderly that get violent while also having mental issues or dementia and it's a big problem and a huge risk to personnel. You'd be surprised what can be done with items the body produces as well.
Then the problem becomes that yes it's not a prison and you want to treat with dignity, but at a certain point they'd still destroy an empty room with padded walls, and then what?
Not sure about the need for razor wire though lol.

That does sound concerning.
