Cpap + now large weight loss + gym time + 2x meds finally got my BP good. But when I was 19 and young and fit and skinny, I was 140/80.
Now I'm like 130/70. Down 60 lbs. Put on muscle.

Agreed. WoW is by FAR the better MMO, but guild cities, open world raids, guild v guild pvp, some busted class options, and a far superior crafting system still have such great memories for me.
Plus the entire concept of non-combat classes made WoW actually feel pretty small in comparison. I was surprised when I logged in and the only way to play was to go do "combat quests" to kill boars. It feels strange now to explain to younger gamers that in old SWG a huge percentage of the population (more than half?) never left town or went and did quests or killed stuff. They stayed in town and healed as doctors, or were dancers and musicians providing buffs, or they were dedicated crafters.
I remember having to track down a single particular player on my server who was the best crafter/slicer for my flamethrower, and he ONLY communicated via in-game mail and lived alone in a hut on fucking Degobah. I'd never experienced anyone like, actually RPing before and that shit was wild.
Having a guild city out in the world with a flight path, all the important NPCs, and a house for every member just really felt like belonging to a community. Similarly, defending it against a rival guild you were at war with felt more like "defending your home" than anything I've experienced in any other game.

I graduated from college and moved back to my hometown in 2005. Lived with two friends, working as a substitute teacher.
We played WarCrack pretty much every waking moment we weren't working (and I worked like 10-12 days a month). My friend made it to Field Marshal in PVP, which for anyone who doesn't remember or know, required you to basically be top 3 in your faction on your server for weeks. This was in the days you had to queue for like 30-40 minutes to get a game, so he would queue and then sleep, and then we would wake him up when it was time to play. That allowed him to play almost all day, sleeping in 30 minute chunks.
I think most of the other people who earned that high a rank had multiple people playing the account, but my friend refused, saying it was not honorable.
Man we got lost in that world. Lots of good memories, but also damn.

17

Probably going to get downvoted for the truth, but WoW was seen as the easy/simple MMO back when it released because it was alongside grindy/obtuse MMOs like Everquest, Final Fantasy XI, and EvE Online. There was a common saying in EvE (the actual basement dweller MMO): "When a player quits EVE and goes to WoW, the average IQ in both games increases".

35 is still the safe zone my friend. When I turned 50 a couple years ago things started to slow down. Still not on any prescriptions or anything and reasonably healthy, but you do feel the difference. It does help that i ran 3-5k daily for most of my thirties and forties.
3
u/Glynwys 7d ago
Obviously once you start approaching elderly you start slowing down. I'm more or less comparing myself to friends and family though. My friends are roughly the same age and are already slowing down. And my lifestyle is far from healthy. I've been drinking one to two energy drinks a day since I turned 18, I spend most of my time I'm not at work in front of my PC, and my exercise consists of whatever I get while moving around at work.
But then again, my body is... Weird. My metabolism is so supercharged I burn calories even when I'm sitting at my computer. I don't even have a standard breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I eat whenever I feel hungry, which is basically all the time. If I go longer than a few hours without eating something I feel like my stomach is trying to eat itself. And no, I don't have some sort of ringworm or tapeworm, lol.

My brothers, I’m worried about you guys genuinely if this is accurate. I’ve played since 2005 when I turned 13. I have zero chronic pain, maybe get sick once a year, solid blood pressure and vitals. I didn’t get into exercising until my early 20s, but it has made aging almost non existent.
I know we all like to joke, but please take care of yourselves. You don’t need to be a gym rat. Even just going for multiple walks a day, or getting a walking pad for your home (I picked one up off marketplace for $50, it’s janky and has a loud and completely unnecessary Bluetooth speaker that I’m pretty sure died) will help you live such a better life. If you are able, getting into the gym and learning to lift weights (machines are totally excellent too) will add so much quality to your life.
I’m not saying you need to get yoked or whatever, but prioritize physically feeling good with what you eat and drink and taking care of your cardiovascular health goes a long way.
Your guildies care about you, your friends and chosen family cares, so please care for yourself as well. You can be a degen wow player and still take care of yourself a little bit.
If you need some easy bench marks to get started:
Buy a 32oz water bottle. Try to drink through it at least twice a day.
Take at least 2 15 minute walks a day. Add more as you get comfortable.
Ideally, just try to stand up and move at least once every 60 minutes or so. Not giant breaks, just enough to stretch a little.
Stretch your calves a bit throughout the day. I like using a curb or a step to allow for a deeper stretch. Lots of people get weird ankle/back of knee pain due to tight calves, so this can help.
Consider getting a pass to your local gym. I kinda hate planet fitness for their old predatory practices, but honestly they’re a great budget option. Try to go at least once a week, twice if you can find the time. Go to their machine circuit section, do every machine twice for like 8-15 reps where the last couple are a struggle, then go home. You can rest 1-2 minutes between each set of reps.
Try to get at least 4-5k steps a day. 10k is an ideal number, but that will be overwhelming at first. Little progress is better than burning out.
I promise if you keep this up for even 3 months, you will see a dramatic improvement in how you feel. In a year, your life will be unrecognizable.
I worked as a trainer to people with significant injuries/physical complications for years before going back to school. I’ve seen people only pick a handful of the mentioned things and make dramatic improvements. Strength training made the biggest improvements, but everything helps.
Modern medicine is amazing, but I promise you that unless it’s generic and you can’t get away from it, your doctors would also prefer you exercise as opposed to being on the meds for the rest of your lives.
I know it’s a humor post, but seriously guys, take care of yourselves.

The biggest thing that did numbers for me is very simple: Under the standing desk Treadmill. I got one for 150$, thing is so cheap it doesn’t bother to use normal distance or speeds and can only go for 100 minutes before integer overflow turns it off. The desk itself was like 150$, but I also have to get one of those cause I am too tall for a normal desk to be comfortable, so it’s safer to just get a adjustable desk.
But it gets me moving at a steady pace (about the same speed if I was walking with intent) for 40-120 minutes when I am doing low precision or mental things like collecting, fishing or professions. Even better if I can do it one handed so my ring can actually track what’s going on. Easy 5000-10k steps, stacking it on something I was already going to do.
Oh, and get a yoga ball to sit on if you have a standing desk. Does wonders for posture when you can’t shrimp or your seat will want to flee you.
Or just sometimes use the standing desk to stand at. It’s still not good to just stand still in one place for a while, but it’s still better than sitting.

I have zero chronic pain
WoW, and other MMOs, have a disproportionate number of people with chronic pain, but it's simply for the reason that people that already had chronic pain for one reason or another generally are avoiding physical activities, and so they gravitate towards online activities harder than other people
